I'm on a strict diet, and I'm planning on staying on it, even while on our Disney Cruise!! Has anyone requested a diet menu? Do I just call DCL and request a low fat/carb menu selection?? If anyone has done this, what was on the"diet" menu??

You can probably adapt the regular menu to fit your needs. There is a fish type selection every night. For other meats just ask for any sauces, etc on the side. Regular tossed salad (even if not on the menu) is available every night. If you have your own special dressing -- you might want to bring it from home. In addition to the regular menu selections there is grilled chicken breast available every evening. Request fresh fruit for dessert. You shouldn't have any problem.

The sugar free desserts are pretty bad. DS tried the carrot cake one night (don't ask why, who knows!) It was really awful!

Our server mentioned that most of the diet menu is really not good because it doesn't hardly ever get ordered, and when it is ordered, it's usually because someone doesn't have much of a choice, so they keep it strictly within the guidelines, which doesn't give the chefs much option for improving the taste.

I wouldn't ask for a "diet" menu. I don't know what you would end up with. But it's easy to eat healthy just by making the right choices from the regular menus and buffet selections.

I ate breakfast at Topsiders and had a great choice of cererals, fruit, lowfat yogurt. Lunches have a chicken choice and again lots of fruits and vegies to pick from. On Castaway Cay, a little bit away from Cookies Barbecue, there is a fruit stand. I love fish and had that as my choice every evening and included a dessert. (They usually aren't that big!) Watch out for the extra calories in alcohol. I only had a couple of drinks that week.

If I was hungry inbetween meals, I headed to Scoops and hit the fresh fruit bar. We have always taken our cruise in January. We live in Iowa, so our winter fruit choices are apples and oranges ... so I LOVE the variety of fruit that's available. My favorite is papaya. I was looking for some one night in one of the clubs and couldn't find any that was cut up, only some whole ones that were being used as a garnish on the platter. The CM that was helping serve, asked me what I was looking for and I told her. She looked around, grabbed the "garnish," put it on my plate and then handed me a knife with a big smile and said, "Enjoy!"

On the seven day cruise, I was never hungry, always felt I had delicious and different food choices and without trying, lost 3 pounds!

Enjoy your cruise!

I don't know how dietary they are, but you might want to think about the vegetarian options...they are excellent!! My hubby, who is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, decided to order them on one trip to check them out for our website. He enjoyed them so much that he orders them all the time now. His favorite is the vegetable stack in Triton's/Lumieres, and I love the yellow curry in Animators (there is a red curry in Parrot Cay that is delicious too).

Thanks for all the really great suggestions!! I think I'll follow everyone's advice and not request a diet menu but rather find healthy choices on the regular menus. I've recently lost 20 pesky pounds and I'm at my goal weight. so there is NO WAY that I'm going to get off track while on vacation - and we all know how hard it is to avoid all those good treats while on a disney vacation!!

I had lost close to 50 pounds prior to going on my cruise but no way was I really worrying about sticking to it while on board...I ate what I wanted (including scoops) and came home 3 pounds lighter than when I left!!! All the exercise of walking Disney World and swimming at the beaches during excursions and in the pool at Lucaya and walking around the boat and taking the stairs instead of the elevator helped that!! But I did have desert every single night and ate what I wanted! I am glad I didn't spend the whole time worrying about what I could eat and what I shouldn't, I just enjoyed myself and even though I was ready to just loose the weight again it worked out OK!

I had lost 18 pounds at WW before our cruise last year, i swore i was not gaining it back. I ate what i wanted, but watched it, I ordered salad every dinner, and still had a dessert, but stayed away from a few of the lunch buffets. I gained about 2 lbs and i used the steps and walked when possible, it was too hot to do alot of walking. The food portions are small at dinner, but very good, so i was full and some nights stuffed.
