Has anyone heard of a Pet Friendly DVC Resort?

So where do service animals stay? wonder how they rid the room of fleas and dander?

a real service animals is not generally going to have these things. they are surpose to be with their person at all times.

if you were with an animal 24hours daily would you allow fleas. most people would NOT. these guys are bathed regular so dander should not be a big problem either.

i work in a grooming salon, we do ALOT of service animals. while they generally are maintained on a regular basis, they are still treated for fleas and shed (goldens, labs) a good bit. They are going to leave behind hair like any other animal. Just making a point that a person with allergies could still get a room where a service animal stayed. I've seen a service animal at least once or twice every trip I take and they have to be staying somewhere.

And what would they do with the pets when the people are not in the room? I assume the pets would stay there alone. What about on housekeeping days? What if an animal ran out when the housekeeper opened the door, or worse, bit a housekeeper? Who would be legally responsible?

AGain, I have pet, love 'em to death, but IMO pets do not belong in a hotel setting.

I have 8 show dogs at home. I have traveled to Disney with some in the past, but they have always stayed at one of the WDW kennels.

Do I think "pets" should be allowed in a DVC or any WDW resort? NO! The reason is that people at WDW resorts are rarely around their room. This is a true imposition on the rest of the vacationers and the housekeeping staff. Not to mention that animals who are not used to being away from home often are noisey and stressed. Even when we travel to dog shows we do NOT leave our animals in a hotel room unattended. If we must, we make sure they are in a travel crate so they aren't able to run around loose.

As for the service animals...We see them all the time at OKW. Of course, they stay in the units with the guests. Where else would they be? They are SERVING, so they are with them all the time.

We travel with our pet and yet I am fine with DVC not having a pet friendly property but obviously from some of these responses some of you have no idea how pet friendly hotels and resorts operate.

For one thing, most allergies to pets are not to dander it is the salvia from the actual pet. If a person is actually allergic to pet dander they can have a reaction from any person such as a housekeeper coming to work who has a pet and has the dander on their clothing.

Also most all pet friendly hotels require pets to be crated when the owner is not in the room.

Many hotels are pet friendly now and the trend is growing. When you travel you might actually be staying in a pet friendly location and not even know it.

Disney World is not a place I am interested in having my pet with me due to the length of time we are out of the room.

I seriously doubt Disney will have a pet friendly but who knows anything with them is possible especially when money is concerned.

As to the bed jumping, Please, please do not allow your children to do this. We had the recent unpleasant experience of having a bed broke down in the center of the mattress due to this. We could not even imagine at first what could have caused that crater in the center of the bed, that we kept falling into. After several nights of this misery we called housekeeping and they informed us very quickly when a mattress has a large depression in the middle of the bed, it is from kids jumping on them.

This type of thing causes all of us to have to pay for the replacement of a broken down mattress.

I love my little dog and would love to bring her to Disney with us. She's potty trained and never has accidents, no matter how late we return. Problem is: That not always the case with every pet. Mousekeeping is having a tough enough time keeping things clean for the human DVC'rs and Ican just imagine how much worse it would be w/ pets. Getting into the rooms for cleaning/supplies and making sure the pets don't get out. Also, many people are scared of dogs, now you have to make sure that the housekeepers who don't mind dogs clean only certain buildings. Then there's the issue of what size is allowable, is the manager the one who will say to the great dane owner, sorry he's too big.

It just makes a lot more sense to leave pets at home!

P.S. FireWorks and pets usually don't mix!
