Sick on the first day of school?

MY DD's first day of kindergarten is tomorrow and she came home from granny's today with 101.5 temperature. I gave her Motrin and she has laid low all day but even with the Motrin her temp is still 99.5. She sounds stuffed up but our allergies have been terrible the past few days, so I don't think that's related. No other symptoms.

I am so sad for her. She is so excited and I and feel terrible telling her she might/probably won't be able to go to school tomorrow.

Not to mention how dumb I am going to feel having to call her in sick.

What a way to start off the school year!

Poor thing. I hope she gets to feeling better. I'm sure that happens more often than you'd think though. Be sure to ask the school if she needs a dr's excuse if you have to call in sick for her tomorrow.

With my luck she'd infest the whole class with some unknown disease and every parent in the school would be on my doorstep by Tuesday morning
I'm going to check on her befre I go to bed (around midnight) and again the morning. Hopefully she'll kick it by then.

A couple of years ago, 2 of my kids came down with the Chicken Pox the first week of school. Boy did I feel like an idiot having to call and tell them that I probably started an epidemic the very first week.

of course she will, if its under 100 go for it, its the first day of school, she has to go

Hopefully her temp will go down but if you send her to school and she has a temp she may not be able to go back the next day. When DS was in grammer school he had to be temp free for 24 hours or he couldn't go to school. Annmarie

I'm with Pop daddy...unless she is 'feeling' sick (not acting herself)and her fever is below 100, I would give her Motrin in the morning and send her(assuming this is 1/2 day kindergarten). The first day of school (especially kindergarden) is HUGE! JMHO.

She went to school this morning. She is feeling completely fine except for the fever. It was much lower today only 99.5. I doped her up and off she went! It was only 1/2 of a 1/2 day of school. She normally goes a half day but on the first day they only go for an hour and a half rather than three hours. There is only one Kin. teacher and the whole school has a half day so she splits the half day in half so the afternoon class gets to come too.
