Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

I'm hoping this is an easy question to answer. Since my bands won't be shipped across the border (creates an interesting image of the poor things standing on the bridge!) i'm making fabric covers with iron-transfers that we can just slip on when we get there. Easy-peasy, i have a pattern for the covers themselves but what i need to know is: How wide is the band at it largest (i assume that is where the large Mickey Head is??) :confused3 I want to make sure that my transfers fit! :thumbsup2

It's 1" at the mickey head area.

It is 13/16" across the inside (colored) part. I measured from the groove between the two parts of the band.

I'm so glad that I found this thread. I hadn't even thought about decorating the bands myself. I've done a few of mine so far. They're all broken down to "kid size" because I have smaller wrists and I don't actually wear the bands much anyway. I don't know how everyone is making such neat bands without breaking them apart. My first was a mess!

I didn't want all white bands, but wanted the images brighter so I used a glitter white polish. It was just enough to lighten the band for the image, but not take away the original color completely. It worked out perfectly! Only Aurora is a little pink in her face. These are all brighter than the pic shows.

The sides of the Snow White band didn't turn out so I cleared the images and left it. I loved the color of the band, despite the mistakes. :) It's tough to tell in the pic, but Tiana's band has a tiny star in the smaller Mickey head for Evangeline. :goodvibes

This was too much fun. I need more magic bands!

These are so awesome! I want mine to turn out like this. What brand nail polish is this? Also what do you mean by breaking them down?

After much trial and error - which you can read about here - if you'd like... The life of a Magicband This is my final product... Not as detailed or as fancy as most of them here - but I love it! 15 y/o DD also did her's... Which I was happy about... :flower3: D~
Love this! Simple yet so effective!

When you did the Mickey head.. Did you paint it first and then do the outline? Or the opposite? If you did the outline last, was it easy to do without getting on the Mickey head?

So I still have a couple of questions. What are you all using to clear the holes after applying tattoos and polish? Also I've read else where warning not to cover the Mickey head with tattoos or polish. And obviously that's what most people are doing on this thread. So I'm wondering if they are all working great in the parks, or has anyone had any problems?

Someone said that they just poked the holes with a toothpick. I only used a tattoo on the opposite side, so I didn't have to worry about the holes.

Tattoos and polish won't affect the abilty for the reader to read the rfid chip. Gems don't seem to affect it either, according to others, but I only have one small one in that area, so I have no experience with anything but polish (and quite a bit of it) covering it. I wouldn't cover it with metal, but that's about it.

Someone else did a pink one somewhat like this earlier and I liked it so much I made one similar but added clouds. I'm not an artist but here is my "Up" themed band. Painted with acrylic paints. Can't wait to show it off in the parks next week.

I am in LOVE with this! If I wasn't dead set on a Tangled theme I would probably borrow this idea ;)

There's a piece that can be removed to make it smaller to fit children's wrists.

Do you know if it can be reassembled? I'm debating how to wear mine. I tried it on today and I like it connected on the last 2 hooks of the smaller band. But I'm afraid to take it apart. Maybe I should just cut the gray part shorter. :confused3

I think some other people have said that once the grey part has been taken off, it can't be put back on :( However, a few people have cut it off with no problems! Also, weird question, but could you please measure the diameter of your wrist? Magicbands don't get shipped to Canada, so I'll receive them upon arrival :P I would like to know in advance whether or not I need to take off the grey part so I can plan out my design

Just got back from 13 nights at the POFQ. This is the magic band I used:

I posted before I left but thought I would give an update/
I used acrylic paints. They are much easier to paint with than nail polish, even using a narrow brush. I then covered it in two coats of a clear acrylic sealer (purchased at Michael's and sold near the acrylic paints for a couple of dollars). I got tons of attention and complements and questions about it from other guests and CMs alike. Some thought I bought it that way. It held up perfectly for the entire two weeks- no cracking, chipping, or rubbing off. I never did go swimming but it got plenty wet from rain and water rides. So it hasn't been tested for prolonged time in the water. It was also scratch resistant.
As you can see, I also did my nails to match. I found the same color pink as my MB in Sinful Colors (Pink Forever). I then painted on top with acrylic paints and then used a nail polish top coat. I have to say the Sinful Colors nail polish held up very well. I never touched up with more topcoat every day like I often do and they lasted about a week at the parks before they started to chip. If I had bothered to touch them up, they probably would have lasted longer.
I thought I would see other decorated MBs out there, but I never saw any. Just those with the little sliders or characters you can buy.
Anyway after my trial, my suggestion is: save the nail polish for nails and use acrylic and sealer on the band. It's cheaper, and you can get many different colors and shades. For your nails (if you like to match :) ) try Sinful colors.

Love your MB. Did you apply the acrylic sealer before the color or apply the color 1st the sealer?

That's what I remember reading. :(

My wrist is 6" exactly at the point I wear the band. And I'm wearing it snug-ish like a watch band. Not tight, but not loose either. If I remove the gray band, I could comfortably latch it on the last holes.

Thanks!

I did the outline first - both times... Then I was just incredibily careful about painting the black on there... I think there is 3 or 4 coats of black? :thumbsup2

I considered separating mine, but I like the finished look that the outer band gives so I cut mine. I left it a little bigger than I thought I would wear it, just to give myself options, and I have found that I do like having that option, but I usually wear it connected on the last 2 hooks of the smaller band.

It does feel better with all of the extra cut off. I filed it and then hit it with a lighter and smoothed it out. Now my husband wants his band shortened too.

MB's just arrived today:yay: Now getting nervous lol. Took out our old bands last night which my youngest daughter has been using to paint on,:) trying to decide how and where to place the tattoos and now making myself nervous on placement and if they will look ok. I just need to calm down now and take a deep breath and dive in and decorate ::yes:::wave2:

If you are not super confident about drawing, why don't you want to use tattoos? That's what I will be doing. We just got our bands yesterday and I can't wait to get to work! I found Avengers tattoos at Party City and some Frozen tattoos on eBay.

Basically, I like to do creative things and can hold my own fairly well. However, I just can't manage to draw actual faces. They always look weird. And, since I have these great ideas in my head for what I want to do on some of the bands, I'd rather stay consistent and paint all the family's bands rather than doing a little of both.

I have nothing against the tattoos & may do that in the future, I just wanted some very specific things this time.

I have the same problems with faces. Two of the bands I wanted to paint would have come out fine, one would have been a little iffy, but one would have been horrible because of the face! I decided to do stickers this time because I want certain characters for a theme. I may do paint in the future though.
Maybe you could do stickers or tatoos and paint over them for the face ones?

Thankyou! Did you put a top/base cost on top of the Mickey head?
