Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

Has anyone cut off the extra gray part because it was too long? I use the first gray hole to close mine so I can't take the gray part off completely but the extra part wraps halfway around my wrist. I'm afraid if I cut it, it will have sharp edges and irritate me.

I had to take the grey off for DS. Yes it does make the sides kinda rough. I used a nail file to make it a little softer.

I cut mine down for the exact reason you mentioned. I just used regular scissors and imitated the round shape of the usual end of the band. And in a daring feat of bravery, I smoothed out the cut end by holding it just over the end of a flame (from a regular cigarette lighter) which was just enough to sort of soften and smooth the sharp parts. Be careful!

:rotfl: @ the bolded

Did the heat melt it a little bit? Is that what made it smoother? I think I may be too much a klutz to attempt that...

Hehe. Yes it melted it just a smidge! It wasn't hard, I'm a klutz too. Others recommended sandpaper or a nail file and I imagine that would work too. It really wasn't all that sharp to begin with.

What do you do when you walk by some ribbon and minnie ears on it? You say "I bet that would be a cool magicband", so needless to say, had to try it and looks pretty good, only had white and black fabric(I imagine that pink and/or polka dots would be interesting). Wife loved the black so this is now packed for our trip in a month. (and yes that is my arm in the pics not my wife's, she wanted to make sure you didn't think she was that hairy...lol)

Great idea! Last night I saw Olaf ribbon at walmart. Now I have to go back and get it :)

MBs must be made (I hope) of a different type of material than regular rubber bracelets. I wanted to practice before my MBs come in, so I grabbed a couple of rubber bracelets we have at home. I used a base coat, let it dry, then continued on, sealing with another base coat. When I went back to the bracelet & went to put it on the whole thing cracked. It peeled right off, every coat! Now I'm scared :scared:. Was it me? Is the rubber different? I just don't know.

Just discovered that you can decorate the Magic Bands. I'm so inspired by all of you! Question...Does the acrylic paint sealed with nail top coat hold up as well as the nail polish/top coat? I'm use to using acrylics. I don't want to mess up when we finally get our bands in September. I'm also a bit of a perfectionist with my "art". I'd hate if it looks cracked or chipped. Thanks. :)

I used enamels and acrylics with a few layers of acrylic sealer, not nail polish. I've been wearing them around with no problems, but will give them a real go in September. We are pretty rough with our bands so it will be a good test. I honestly don't anticipate any problems unless I scrape the band against the bottom of the pool or what have you.

Another poster used acrylics and acrylic sealer and had no problems.

I hope this is the right place to ask, but, I HATE the feel of those rubber bracelets that were so popular a few years back (livestrong etc).
I hate that rubber!
Does the magic band feel like that?
If so, I may make a cover.

Magic bands are pretty solid, so I don't find them to be like the Livestrong bracelets. They feel more like plastic watches than anything.

I guess maybe the top could feel like one if you're rubbing them, but once you've painted over it and covered it, that goes away completely.

Is it textured or smooth inside?
I read that the outer border comes off. If so, is the inner feel different? My wrists are small.
If it separates, maybe I could cover/coat the part that touches me, and then replace? Maybe duct tape if it's smooth.

My apologies since these aren't the best pictures, but my pugs weren't being cooperative with holding down the bands for me. If I put anything near their paws they automatically think "oh no, mom's cutting our nails!!"

Here's what the inside of the bands looks like, if you can see it. So there's a wavy texture to the inside of the band (which I'm assuming is to help channel sweat) but it's overall smooth.

Also, my wrists are about the same size as a child's (I think it was 4.5-5 inches around the last time I measured it), but given the way the magic band sits, it alters on which hole I can wear it.

I've never worn my yellow bands to the park, and this is pretty much what it's shaped like out of the box. My pink one (that I have worn for a week) isn't shaped much differently now, but it a little less stiff.:

Because my wrist is just about as wide as the part where I painted Pooh (the solid part with no give that houses the chips) if I removed the grey outer part, I wouldn't be able to wear my magic band at all. So I'm kind of forced into wearing my MB a little bigger than I need to, but given how hot it gets and how sweaty I can be in the middle of FL heat, I'm OK with it not being snug.

This one is mine. I don't know how well it shows up in the picture but I used sparkle paint on the castle spires and glitter nail polish on the grass area and for Tink's pixie dust.

LOVE IT.

MBs are way more solid than those are. Despite being curved, there is actually less give to them than the rubber bracelets. My hunch is that it's just the bracelets.

I've just read all 109 pages of this and all I can say is Wow! You are all amazing artists.

Me? Not so much. My mother was a professional illustrator and my oldest niece is an art major. Skipped a generation.

We're going in December - husband and I have a split stay, so I'm getting a pink one and a blue one. In the second stay, my sister and two younger nieces are joining us.

So the first shipment will be my pink one, and husbands green one. Second, being shipped to my sister, since she needs the bands for DME has our blue ones. My sister and 2 nieces have pink.

So, I thought, as I started that I'd like to make the pink one purple glitter with del sol polish. We're going on an Alaskan cruise next month, so I can get the polish in person on the cruise. I'm hoping those of you also try del sol will report back. I'll probably add some nail art stars or something to it.

To do that I should apply a base coat, several coats of polish, stick the art into the last coat and top with another base coat?

My blue one will probably maintain it's blue color, but I'd like to add gems. Those would be base coat, any polish, base coat, gems?

We go in early December, so bands show up mid November. I'm hoping my sister gets her order in time to bring us our second bands at Thanksgiving. If they do arrive, maybe I'll have her bring all 5 and we'll have a decorating party (and possibly get my mom and oldest to help).

I think I'm just going to do Mickey on both of DH's bands.

Thanks again - you are all amazing.

HockeyMomNH..... How GORGEOUS......You Rock !! :thumbsup2
Wish I were your sister's MIL. :rotfl2:

Today's project is Flower from Bambi for my sister's MIL. Just two more bands to go before our trip.

HockeyMomNH - your magic bands are wonderful - how talented you are. What are you using to paint them? Also do you put a base coat and top coat - if so what? Paint or nail polish? I have 2 artistically talented DDs and they will be the official decorators of our magic bands. Thanks so much for any advice?

Thanks. I told my sister that I might just change my name to Nancy and keep this one. :rotfl2:

Thank you. I use a combination of nail polish and acrylic paint. I start with nail polish around the mickey head. I find that fills in the cracks the best and makes that part of the band easier to paint over. Then I do a layer of acrylic paint over the whole band as a base coat. It's easier to draw on the design that way. Then I paint the band in acrylics and finish with a nail polish top coat. I usually do several layers of polish, and I use a base/top coat type because it doesn't crack as easily.

Make sure you share pics. I can't wait to see what your DDs come up with! :)

Has anyone use stickers? I have seen some nice Disney stickers at a store & I was thinking about using those. But I won't get my band for at least 2 more weeks, so I have nothing to use as a guide & I don't want to mess up my band.

I can't draw to save my life & I will do the tattoos if need be. But I was thinking with stickers they would show up better than a tattoo. I would do the sticker the same way, base coat, sticker, more base coat.

If anyone has an opinion on this I would love to hear some feedback. :mic:

My kids decorated their bands last night. We used tattoos and some confetti covered with clear nail polish. They were happy with them :)

Oh they won't look anything like yours - but they will do a great job. Thanks for the help.
