Just discovered that you can decorate the Magic Bands. I'm so inspired by all of you! Question...Does the acrylic paint sealed with nail top coat hold up as well as the nail polish/top coat? I'm use to using acrylics. I don't want to mess up when we finally get our bands in September. I'm also a bit of a perfectionist with my "art". I'd hate if it looks cracked or chipped. Thanks.
I used enamels and acrylics with a few layers of acrylic sealer, not nail polish. I've been wearing them around with no problems, but will give them a real go in September. We are pretty rough with our bands so it will be a good test. I honestly don't anticipate any problems unless I scrape the band against the bottom of the pool or what have you.
Another poster used acrylics and acrylic sealer and had no problems.
I hope this is the right place to ask, but, I HATE the feel of those rubber bracelets that were so popular a few years back (livestrong etc).
I hate that rubber!
Does the magic band feel like that?
If so, I may make a cover.
Magic bands are pretty solid, so I don't find them to be like the Livestrong bracelets. They feel more like plastic watches than anything.
I guess maybe the top could feel like one if you're rubbing them, but once you've painted over it and covered it, that goes away completely.
Is it textured or smooth inside?
I read that the outer border comes off. If so, is the inner feel different? My wrists are small.
If it separates, maybe I could cover/coat the part that touches me, and then replace? Maybe duct tape if it's smooth.
My apologies since these aren't the best pictures, but my pugs weren't being cooperative with holding down the bands for me. If I put anything near their paws they automatically think "oh no, mom's cutting our nails!!"
Here's what the inside of the bands looks like, if you can see it. So there's a wavy texture to the inside of the band (which I'm assuming is to help channel sweat) but it's overall smooth.
Also, my wrists are about the same size as a child's (I think it was 4.5-5 inches around the last time I measured it), but given the way the magic band sits, it alters on which hole I can wear it.
I've never worn my yellow bands to the park, and this is pretty much what it's shaped like out of the box. My pink one (that I have worn for a week) isn't shaped much differently now, but it a little less stiff.:
Because my wrist is just about as wide as the part where I painted Pooh (the solid part with no give that houses the chips) if I removed the grey outer part, I wouldn't be able to wear my magic band at all. So I'm kind of forced into wearing my MB a little bigger than I need to, but given how hot it gets and how sweaty I can be in the middle of FL heat, I'm OK with it not being snug.
This one is mine. I don't know how well it shows up in the picture but I used sparkle paint on the castle spires and glitter nail polish on the grass area and for Tink's pixie dust.
LOVE IT.
MBs must be made (I hope) of a different type of material than regular rubber bracelets. I wanted to practice before my MBs come in, so I grabbed a couple of rubber bracelets we have at home. I used a base coat, let it dry, then continued on, sealing with another base coat. When I went back to the bracelet & went to put it on the whole thing cracked. It peeled right off, every coat! Now I'm scared

. Was it me? Is the rubber different? I just don't know.
MBs are way more solid than those are. Despite being curved, there is actually less give to them than the rubber bracelets. My hunch is that it's just the bracelets.
