Has anyone decorated their Magic Bands? Please show us the pictures!

HELP! I was just listening to Lou Mongelli's podcast (WDW Radio) and they were answering a listener question about decorating magic bands. They recommended being careful about covering the Mickey because the touch point might not work. I've decorated ours with metallic glitter. Has anyone had any problems with this?

No offense to Lou but this thread is filled with dozens of folks who have covered their magic bands in metal, glitter, stickers, paint, crystals, and the like and no one has reported interference with the RFID technology (to my knowledge). The only problem I could think of would be if you can't FIND the Mickey head as some readers seem to really need the "Mickey to Mickey" lined up perfectly. Don't sweat it!

Leaving Friday night! :hyper:

If you had the time to read this entire thread :rotfl2:, you'd find this type of remark comes up now and then and it is completely false. I've covered the Mickey had with various things, including metallic nail polish, and never an issue. And for us, if the mickey is more defined by the decorations, it helps to line it up. Even the plain bands have issues if they aren't lined up Mickey to Mickey on the touch points.

I finally convinced my mom to come to WDW with me and my DD15 in Feb. She requested a character from a classic Disney movie, and she is a sewer, so here is what I came up with.

Do you think mod podge would work as a sealer? I've used that on canvas shoes I've painted and it has worked well. I painted some of ours last year with nail polish pens and they were cracking by the end of our trip.

I agree. I painted all of ours with nail polish over the Mickey head and none of us had a problem for the entire 9 days of our vacation.

Nice job on your bands. I have never tried mod podge, and I can't remember if anyone else on here has tried it either. I have been using a spray acrylic sealer. That seems to crack less than the nail polish.

Since you get a new set of bands with each stay, can each person have more than one band "active" at a time? I'd love to have more than one so I can mix and match since I have a set of Magic Bands from our last trip.

Or another option, since I'm having trouble deciding which skin to order, can you peel off and reattach the magicyourband skins? So like use one for two days than swap, then swap back?

You can have multiple bands attached to your account. We finally had to start deactivating them in our accounts, my daughter had something like 20 in hers. Lol!

Has anyone decorated their band with Lemiere's character on it? I'm doing the Lemiere's Challenge at the Wine & Dine next year, and am already trying to think of how I'm going to decorate my band. I did the rose with my last band, so wanted something different.

The character is long and slim so it would look great painted on your band! Maybe search for images and find one you can trace onto your band and paint. You could print "Be Our Guest" or "Lumiere's Challenge" or something like that on it too. Or if they have a logo of some type that comes out you could paint that on.

Good ideas!! I have plenty of time to practice on paper before I get my band :)

I painted my MB last time, but I'm not very artistic so I decided to get wraps from magic your band. And let me tell you I LOVE them. My son helped with designing them and I got 3 different ones just for myself. (Even though we are only spending 5 days in the parks lol) I love that we got 2 of each design. I can't wait until out MB arrive so I can put them on. The wraps got here super quick! I ordered on Sunday and they arrived today! 33 days to go.

Those came out very nice. I especially love the character collage one on the right. What software did you use to create it? I would like to do something similar using my flower photography, but can't figure out how.

These are great! Love the blue one and the grey Mickey and Minnie is nice too. How did you do them? Paint, stickers, tattoos, all of the above?

Thank you! DH actually does them. The blue one with the four parks was done with an acrylic paint background and then temporary tattoos that he printed out at home. The one with the pics of our family (looks so much better in person) was done the same way. He freehand painted the gray Minnie/Mickey.

These look great! What kind of glue did you use? I had rhinestones on my band in June and I lost a couple near the Mickey head. I am guessing from having to tap the scanner. Apparently I need better glue.

Thank you for the specifics! I think I will trying this method. Where did you get the crystals? I had used just stick ons from Michaels which I am sure was not the best quality.

How did you get the gold? Did you use gold nailpolish over what color band?? Also did you paint the band then add the crustals and then paint the gold over the crystals? Or did you do all the gold and put clear coat over the crystals?

First off I want to say just how incredibly impressed I am with everyone's talent on this. I ran across this almost by accident and will definitely be decorating our magic bands now! I do have maybe a silly question. I'm not sure if our little girl (she's just over a year old) will be wearing hers or not, but if so, has anyone decorated a band for a child this young? I'd like to, because it would just be fun, but I'm worried she may end up chewing on it (she's working on several teeth right now...). Thanks!

I used photoshop. The collage is one I found online.
