Has anyone booked a "Boardwalk View"

And not gotten it when you checked in?

I was told by MS that I could book a "BV" specifically and I'd get it.

Has this been the case? Do any of our experts know the answer?

That should be the case 100% of the time now. BWV has three booking classes:

Standard View
Preferred Boardwalk View
Preferred Garden / Pool View

If your reservation indicates the Boardwalk View, then you should definitely get a room that overlooks the BW. If it says Garden / Pool view, you will not get a BW view even though the points are the same.

Apparently this change was implemented couple of years ago due to the complaints at check-in from folks who hoped to get the BW view but ended up with the Garden / Pool View.

We have a BW view booked for our Dec trip. If it turns out that one is not available, we'll be happy with whatever we get. :D

We've already had a standard view and a preferred view. IMO, all of the rooms are great.

Just one small note, one cannot book any portion of a BWV BW View on cash. Has to be points only.

It should be a guarentee. But there are occationally problems - if more rooms are out of inventory for damage than expected or something, you may not get the rooms. Have never actually heard of any, just figure they can't give you a room that the last occupant trashed, and it might need to be out of inventory for a few days.

Actually this policy has only been in effect for about a year. I booked a one bdrm B'walk view and got it. We loved it so much that we let a reservation go that we paid for in full for the weekend. We were all paid up for Friday and Sat to stay at the Wyndham on International drive but simply let the money go (we used Priceline to book the room) rather than leave our villa. we were on the fifth floor so we never heard the B'walk noises at night but we were able to see the shows and the fireworks from our balcony with no problem. We don't like the BWV for entertaining and always go to OKW with guests so we haven't done this again. I think at the next 11 month mark that matches our vacation time I will book a B'walk view again! I would be more than angry if I booked a B'walk view and didn't get it because that would be my only reason for going to the Boardwalk resort.

icy-dog,

Did you use points for the Fri & Sat? I believe if they have empty rooms you can use cash for BW view.

I'll ask my husband as he always remembers such things. All I know is that it was under the grandvillas and located on the fifth floor. It was a magical vacation. I remember being so sad when I had to leave this room go home to reality. I think it was my PRINCESS VILLA. What a blast we had..I have been a member since 1992, and I've taken maybe a hundred trips, but this was by far my best trip.

Your idea about renting for cash is a good one. I am not sure I even thought of it. We were already out around a hundred $$ for the Wyndham so I guess I couldn't think of spending any more cash. It would have been a much better idea in hindsight.

We had the BW view in July, and really liked it. We have it booked again in December, and I know I'd be very disappointed not to have it, especially after looking forward to having it again.

After this trip, though, I'm not sure if I'll continue booking Preferred-Boardwalk view, or start getting standard view. :)

A boardwalk view is guaranteed. I have always gotten that view, never had a problem. I have booked a boardwalk view on cash, though, last July, for Friday and Saturday, and stayed the rest of the nights on points. I never had a problem--it was in the middle of my stay, so perhaps that was why I didn't have a problem. I booked it thru the 407-WDISNEY number, and had maid service with a full cleaning right when I needed it, too, so I was happy:D

Not me. For the first time we booked a Boardwalk view right at the 11 month mark for our upcoming trip because it is now guaranteed. If for some strange reason, I don't get one, they had better charge me only standard view points because that is what we always booked at the 11 month mark prior to this trip. But I have no doubt that it won't be an issue and we will be soon enjoying our Boardwalk view. Then we can decide if those extra points are really worth it or not.

We just had our first Boardwalk view ever 2 weeks ago and we did not arrive until 11:30pm to check in (flight change due to hurricane Jeanne). I was a tad nervous that they would have given our BW view away, but it was fine. I did have MS note we would be arriving late on our reservation.

Do you think it is a possibility to be able to book a BWV at 7 months? Or do they fill up ultra fast?

They do fill up fast but anything is possible. I wouldn't count on it for the real busy times of the year but you never know. Plus you can always use the wait list.

I booked a BW View for a trip back in May/June and when I arrived they said there was a problem and would I mind taking a preferred view room instead? They offered a 200.00 credit toward dinner anywhere we'd like to go and since this was a girls only trip and we weren't planning to be in the room much anyway, I took them up on it. They had apparently overbooked for some reason and said we could have the Boardwalk view the next day if we really wanted it but it was more trouble to us to move so we just stayed put. We ended up with a nice room overlooking Luna Park. Had this been a family trip for a week or more...I would have taken issue with it I think but for this trip, it was a pleasure to take the 200.00 and splurge over at Artist Point. It worked out okay. In the unlikely event of a BW view room not being available upon arrival, they will bend over backward to compensate for the disappointment.

I wonder if this may happen because they took the 2nd floor rooms above the old sales center out of service because of the construction work.

So true, we had a Boardwalk View Guarantee ressie for this past spring break that we had to cancel about 70 days prior to arrival. I know prior to that this category was sold-out, so it made someone's waitlist work.
