First time post, long time lurker. Enjoyed all of your posts here too! I do have a question. My partner and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary at WDW this November (4th-12th). We're staying at the WL. Soooo, what happens/what would happen if I tell the front desk as we're standing there that we are celebrating this occassion? Would I get blank stares? A room in the basement? "Lost reservations" all of a sudden? I'm not looking for handouts, but you read so many stories about how CM's make anniversaries a little bit more special for some people. So how 'bout it; has anyone here told them about a special occasion for you and your significant other?
Thanks for reading....

As you probably already know if you've been reading these posts long enough -- Viki just had an awesome anniversary trip this summer with her partner with some pretty nice CM pixie dust thrown in for good measure @ AKL. I've never stayed @ the WL but have eaten/toured there several times and all the CMs I've met have seemed REALLY nice.
If I were you, I'd mention your special event when you check in and see what happens. You may get nothing special; you may have a nice surprise. But I sure don't imagine anything crummy would happen...

Ditto to everything Sue said!!!

I don't usually think about it this way, because we just live our lives with the assumption that our family we'll be OK wherever we go (and, hey, sometimes that isn't true - I could tell you a story about a 4-H Fair in Western PA that would make your hand stand on end!!!), but WDW's culture of acceptance must be one of the reasons we go back again and again.

Is it limitless? No, see a post a few down about their refusal to do weddings, even for gay and lesbian couples with marriage licenses from MA, but perhaps to compensate for the times it isn't as embracing as it "should" be, there certainly does seem to be some extra pixie dust around for couples like us - if from no one else than the fabulous CMs they employ!!!

First..let me say Happy Anniversary!

I don't know if this will even work...but, I am planning on faxing over a little request in November. To make a long story short...I had a horrible time with sinus problems....beginning last February...and ended up having surgery in May. It has been a long haul...I am also diabetic..which complicated a few things...and, I did have to cancel some Disney trips....

My ENT, his wife, and young son, will be going to Disney in November...He knew what a Disney nut I was and had told me his plans...which weren't very good...considering..it would be their first trip and they would only be staying three and a half days...I gave him my input...and he called Disney...to make arrangements to stay at Saratoga Springs with the dinning plan and park tickets included...

What I would like to do...is to request that perhaps something could be put into the computer...and upon their arrival and "check in"...something could be said about how "appreciative" they were he was such a good doctor...which, in turn...helped a special guest be able to return to coming back to Disney..."...maybe giving the son an autograph from Mickey....Just some sort of acknowledgement of what he did...Nothing that would cost anything....

I have made several trips to Disney World over the last few years...and have brought as many as ten people in my group...and have never asked for anything special...until now...I am crossing my fingers...some wonderful CM will read my request and sprinkle some magic Disney Dust for this young doctor and his family on their first (hopefully not the last) trip to Disney World.

It would be sweet if a CM could pop up with an autographed picture of Mickey...wishing you and your partner a Happy Anniversary when you check in.... :wizard:

Happy anniversary! When it comes to gay people visiting Disney, I look at it this way. I recently read a newspaper article stating Orlando/Kissimmee is now one of the top gay metro areas in the world, with 6-8% of the population being gay.

I think most of those work at Disney, so you'll be with friends :thumbsup2

Tell them ahead of time! Make sure its on your reservation, if you haven't already done that, call and *** it.

My partner and I stayed at the GF for Gay Days this year, which happen to be a week after both our birthdays (we're 3 days apart.)

A few days before we arrived, I faxed them letting them know it was our birthdays.

When we arrived, we'd been upgraded to Magic Kingdom view dormer rooms and there was a beautiful display on the side table with cookies and chocolate Mickeys wishing us a Happy Birthday. They knew our names and that we'd requested a king size bed, so ... they knew. That was a magical surprise indeed!

Yeah I'd mention it for sure.....you're bound to get goodies and get in on some extra magic. I don't know specifically what the experience would be in a resort hotel....but my partner and I celebrated 3 years earlier this year on the Disney Wonder....and we mentioned to our table servers and the other guests at our table that this was our anniversary cruise and we got tons of special treatment....flowers and a balloon in our cabin with a card signed by Mickey (arranged apparently by our room steward who had been informed by our wait staff) plus they baked and decorated a special cake for us at dinner that evening with a chocolate mold imprinted with a picture of the boat that read "Happy 3rd Anniversary".....So I say DEFINITELY mention it!

:tigger:

Happy Anniversary! By all means, tell Disney that you have a special celebration during your stay. We enjoyed some extra pixie dust during our stay a couple of months ago. We had it noted on our reservation back in September that we were celebrating our 7th Anniversary with the trip to WDW. It was a short trip and the actual anniversary was about 6 weeks prior to our stay, but we were completely honest with Disney about that. The trip was our gift to each other.

We expected nothing from Disney, but when they ask if there is anything special going on, I told them what was up. We were wished "Happy Anniversary" at check in. Ok, that was cool enough, but a couple of days into the stay, we came back to the room to find Happy Anniversary balloons and a special anniversary card. The card was from Mickey & Minnie and was personalized to Gabby & Maggie. Gabby & I were both just floored. It's my favorite keepsake of the trip. Maggie
