Has a singer or celebrity dying ever affected you that much?

I was a little bummed when Joey Ramone died, but I didn't cry or remember the date or anything.

Left Eye (of TLC) & Aaliyah were both a huge shock to me.

When I learned of Princess Diana's death, I cried the whole nite. It tore me up...it was like theres no way she can die...shes her, its not possible...theres been some mistake. :(

The nite Dale Earnhardt died, it threw me for a loop...even though he wasnt one of my faves or anything.

So sad...

Princess Diana...when I saw it on TV that night I just sat of the sofa and cried until the wee hours of the morning. I just couldn't believe that one.

Selena...such a young singer with a beautiful voice. What a tragedy! http://www.caller2.com/selena/sextra2.htm

It was a shock to hear about Maurice passing,,and it was a shock when Andy died too ...so young,,, its all over the radio and news down here (Miami where they lived),, and now the family is suing Mount Sinai hosp... such a sad thing!!! May he rest in peace.

Dale Earnhardt has been the only big one for me. My best friend and I go home every Daytona 500 weekend to watch the race with my dad. I went back to school that night after hearing the news, I saw my girlfriend at the time, and I cried in her lap. It was a sad week.

The untimely passing of Owen Hart from the WWF really got to me. Being a wrestling fan, you often take for granted the risks the wrestlers take with their bodies just to entertain the fans. In front of 20,000 fans, Owen Hart was supposed to decend from the arena ceiling to enter the ring. Sadly, his safety equipment didn't work and Owen fell from the ceiling and landed in the ring. Not more than an hour later, he passed away. This affected me deeply as a man who gave so much to entertain me had just passed away by doing something so simple and yet unnecessary. What also affected me greatly was watching the rest of the WWF talent struggle to keep it together long enough to finish the show that night, as well as their outpouring of emotion the following evening on live television. It truly was heart-wrenching and is something that, hopefully, I'll never have to see again.

Gilda Radner's death bothered me. Abbie Hoffman's did too.
George was my favorite Beatle and I knew he was
passing but when he did, I felt a real sense of loss. He
was so peaceful. I just found out Waylon Jennings died
last year-I loved his voice and was sad to find that he
had died.

Like so may of you it was Princess Diana's dying (being murdered?) that hit me the hardest. We were only a month apart in age and I really identified with her personal struggles, and her magic. My Mom died earlier the same year and unlike me was a great royalist ,she would stand wherever she was if she heard the National anthem,it was Princess Diana herself ,not the Monarchy as a whole I admired.

So when I cried it was for both of them.Elton John's song,Goodbye Englands Rose ,I literally cry helplessly when I hear that,Princess Diana was Englands rose as was my Mom.

JFK Jr. would be the celebrity who's death affected me the most. So sudden and so tragic.
My sister mourned Dale Earnheart as if he had been a family member. I think Nascar fans are very devoted to their driver. She couldn't watch races for quite a while after he passed. Now she roots for his son.

I have to add Princess Diana and Dale Earnhardt to my list. I remember turning on the TV in my room the morning after Princess Di had been killed and trying to figure out what celebrity they were talking about. When they said it was her, I was really heartbroken. As far as Earnhardt goes, I was at work that day and when Thom picked me up he told me that Earnhardt had been in an accident and I asked if he was going to be okay. He said yes and when we went home, we turned on the TV and heard the President of NASCAR (I think) announcing that "After the accident in Turn 3, we have lost Dale Earnhardt." I was upset more for Thom's dad (who was a major Dale Earnhardt fan-and by the way is one of the three members of Thom's family that I still get along with) than for myself and I remember being sad about it for at least a week or so.

We were up at the cottage when we heard of Princess Diana's death. We too had watched her wedding, and then, her funeral. I know I cried many times during it.

John Lennon's death was so sad.

It may sound strange since it was a long time ago, but Natalie Wood's drowning really bothered me. I read a biography about her this past fall, Natasha, by Suzanne Finstad, and there are still so many unanswered questions about what really happened the night she died.

:(

Princess Di affected me a lot but as for a singer, I would have to say John Lennon.:(

Kim.. you are so right about Natalie Wood.. that was truly tragic and somehow I do feel we will never what truly happened there.. I have that book somewhere, I think one of my daughters borrowed it.. time to get it back and read it..

JFK Jr....I agree that he was a true gentleman. Meeting him made a huge impression on me.

I also cried about Joey Ramone and Joe Strummer.:(

It also really got to me when Richard Harris died. He *was* Dumbledore.

The sad thing last night is I watched the Bee Gees Biography from A&E that was shown last year and I guess the last time I watched it , I stopped it right where the brothers start talking about loosing Andy and right after that they go onto Maurice's problems with alcoholism , his family started talking about all the problems he overcame and how proud they are of him , his wife was almost crying talking about him and how much she loves him, I lost it but it did me good, I had been holding it back all day.
Then I just saw this morning his family is questioning the medical care he received on his last few hours before he died and an investigation has been opened, there's no law suit yet for now but they want answers.
I ache for the mother though, she has wintnessed two of her children's death, I don't think I could stand that.

Karen Carpenter. I grew up loving the Carpenters (that tells you how boring I was). She had a wonderfully pure voice.

Princess Diana by far was the celebrity death that hit me the hardest, she was so young and so vibrant and in a heartbeat she was gone.

JFK Jr. would be second on my list. He seemed to be such a wonderful person who overcame such a tragic family history only to be a tragic party of history himself.
