I know this may sound stupid to some people but Maurice Gibb's death today really hit me hard. I grew up listening to the Bee Gees and they have always been my favorite group. I learnt two days ago that he was so sick but I really thought he was going to make it , this morning dh called me at work and told me about his passing, I felt like a ton of bricks hit me and my heart dropped down to the floor. Of course the radio station at work have been playing their songs quite often today and although I tried not to , when I heard " How deep is your love" I cried.
I can't help it , but I feel crushed and I know this will pass but I have never felt like this for a celebrity.
I don't know, it was so suddenly and unexpected, I guess that's why I am in shock.
Has this ever happened to you?

Both DW and I were saddened at the news about Maurice Gibb. I
was stunned when John Lennon was killed, and very upset when George Harrison died. Those deaths impacted me more than some deaths in my own family.:(

Yes, Harry Chapin's death affected me greatly. We had seen him MANY times (probably close to 100) and he "knew" us. We had tickets to see him up at the Club Casino in Hampton Beach, NH the day after he died. My brother had to pick me up at my softball game where our team had just made it to the finals. He put a tape in (8 track!) so I wouldn't hear the news on the radio. He told me when we got home and I was so upset! My folks happened to be out in CA on vacation at the time. I had many penpals at that time and the phone rang all night with friends calling. So very sad...

I am also saddened by Maurice's death. The Bee Gees were part of my growing up. I was one of the few people who bought their Sgt. Pepper soundtrack album and actually enjoyed it! :)

I was completely shattered when John Denver died....I still get sad sometimes when I listen to his music.

I really miss John Candy, John Belushi as far as actors go. I enjoy comedy and when I see one of their movies I still miss them.
As far as singers, the only person that puts a sharp pain in me is Freddy Mercury. I really miss him.

Oh yeah, George Harrison's death really hit me hard. So did Gerry Garcia's. They both crushed me deeply. Two gentle souls gone forever.

The shock and horror of John Lennon's death hit me too. Nickolette Larson's death was so very sad too.

And Elvis. Gosh. I'll never forget the night he died. ABC's news ended that night with Elvis waving and saying "Good night everybody.", then fading to black. It still chokes me up to think about it.

I was only about 11 when Elvis died but I remember crying about it. I loved listening to Elvis even though it wasn't a very cool thing to do at my age. I still listen to his music. My 4 yo dd calls him "mom's boyfriend." I feel bad aobut Maurice too. I was another one that bought the Sgt Peppers album and used to really enjoy it. I also had the Saturday Night Fever album. I feel bad for his brothers.

Oh and Marvin Gaye. :(

I love this song, and I believe it's true:

"If there's a Rock and Roll heaven, then I know they got a helluva band ..."

John Lennon's death will forever have an impact on me (along with millions of others). Things like that just didn't happen.

And though I knew that George Harrison was going to die (one of those friends of a friend was a nurse where he had been), it still hurt to hear. Funny, both my husband and I woke up in the middle of that night, unable to sleep. He turned on his computer and there it was...

I actually cried when John Lennon died. Freddie Mercury too. I knew Freddie was sick, but the way he died, all alone afraid to tell anyone that he had Aids, it broke my heart.

Saffron, I didn't know that Nikolette Larsen died! How sad. When was this, and what did she die of?

As far as celebrities - JFK, Jr. hit me hard. I actually sort of knew him - I was a bartender in NYC when he was a law student, and he was one of my semi-regular customers. A finer gentleman you would be hard pressed to find.

I was sad when Princess Di and JFK Jr. died. They were both close to my age and tragic accidents, makes you realize how fragile life is.

The only one that hit me hard with John Lennon. All the others have certainly been sad, but they didn't really affect me a much as Lennon's did. I guess because it was the way it happened. Harrison's was sad, but you sort of knew it was coming. As was Gibb's (although I didn't care that much for the Bee Gees for it to matter to me).

Belushi's was also a shock, but again, not all that surprising given what we knew about him.

There are so many I have lived through that I do not know where to begin... but as far as celebrities when Elvis died..my little heart broke and I was 9 months pregnant.. To this day, the daughter I was pregnant with is the biggest Elvis fan I know.. even though he died before she was born.. We joke that I passed it to her in the womb..

Also, when Walt Disney died I felt terrible.. I grew up watching the Mickey Mouse Club with Annette and all the rest.. and the wonderful world of Disney... You have to remember out here on the East Coast and during those times, it was darn near impossible unless you were really wealthy to travel to Disneyland.. I finally got there when I was 15 and will never forget it, probably the reason I am the fan I am today.

JFK, Jackie, JFK, jr.. Princess Diana all did me in..such a tragic family...

Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes' death hit me the hardest, since it was so sudden. She died in Honduras, a country she loved, where she'd adopted a little girl whose mother was not able to care for her. She'd really turned her life around when the tragedy struck. :(

Snoopy, she died in 1997. :( She left behind a little girl who was about 7 years old I think. I bet her and Gerry are rockin' if they can. ;) :D

Here is a tribute to her.
Beautiful Nicolette.

I was very shocked when Lady Diana died, it was the day we got married. We just couldn't get enough on it on the television. Also it was very hard to believe that JFK Jr. died. So tragic.

Music...John Denver

others..JFK jr, Lucille Ball and Jimmy Stewart

River Pheonix. I don't know why. I really wasn't a big fan or anything. Maybe because he was so close to my age and it seemed like such a waste.

Princess Di's death really bothered me for about a year. It was just so shocking!!
