Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

Well, Crabbe performed the spell that caused the cursed fire to destroy the Ravenclaw horcrux- so he did help to bring down Voldemort (even though he didn't mean to).
***Accentuate+, I didn't see that you had already said this!! Sorry!***

But you filled in the details. :) Crabbe! I couldn't remmber which one it was.

Also, remember that Draco didn't tell who Harry was when he was kidnapped.

Does anyone know, did we know that Aberford was the barman at Hogs Head before this book?

One of my favorite lines is when George tells Fred he feels saintlike after his ear is cut off - you know, holey. I laughed out loud, maybe because it reminds me of my dad talking about wearing his holey socks to church.

Draco also pretended not to recognize Hermione or Ron either.

I think we found out Aberforth was the barman in book 5, when Harry and the D.A. met at the Hog's Head.

It was. I just looked up the chapter in book 5, and the barman was described as "...a grumpy-looking old man with a great deal of long grey hair and beard. He was tall and thin and looked vaguely familiar to Harry."

It was there all along.

JKR is sneaky like that!!!:rotfl: I wonder if everyone in Hogsmede knew he was Dumbledore's brother?

Ok, loved the book, and it couldn't have ended any other way...

Did anyone else yelp outloud when Mrs. Weasly yelled "Not my daughter, you *word that rhymes with witch, but isn't*"!

I literally wooted outloud and DH came running to see what was wrong :lmao: Totally unexpected, but I LOVED it!

I was shocked myself.

I'm working on reading through this entire thread because I loooove seeing the different takes (and I desperately want to re-read the book but don't have the time right now!) ... but wanted to post this as I wasn't sure if anyone else has seen it!

Stop your sobbing! More Potter to come
J.K. Rowling tells TODAY she will write an 'encyclopedia' on characters

AP

In her only television interview after the highly anticipated release of the seventh and final installment in the Harry Potter series, author J.K. Rowling will sit down with NBC's Meredith Vieira in Edinburgh, Scotland, to discuss the conclusion of her series for the first time.

Tune in to TODAY on Thursday, July 26, and Friday, July 27, to see the interview.

Spoiler alert: This story reveals some key plot points in the final Harry Potter book. So if you've haven't finished the book, J.K. Rowling asks that you not read this story.

For the millions in the midst of the seven stages of mourning for the end of the Harry Potter era, take heart.

In her first tell-all interview since the release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” J.K. Rowling told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira she "probably will" publish a Potter encyclopedia, promising many more details about her beloved characters and the fate of the wizarding world beyond the few clues provided in the seventh book’s epilogue.

“I suppose I have (started) because the raw material is all in my notes,” Rowling said.

The encyclopedia would include back stories of characters she has already written but had to cut for the sake of narrative arc (“I've said before that Dean Thomas had a much more interesting history than ever appeared in the books”), as well as details about the characters who survive “Deathly Hallows,” characters who continue to live on in Rowling’s mind in a clearly defined magical world.

Hogwarts, for example, has a new headmaster (“McGonagall was really getting on a bit”), and Rowling said she can see Harry going back to give the "odd talk" on Defense Against the Dark Arts. That class, by the way, is now led by a permanent professor since Voldemort’s death broke the jinx which didn’t allow a teacher to remain in the position for more than a year.

Rowling offered up these details freely to Vieira and the 14 fans who asked her questions at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland on Tuesday. In fact, now that she is now longer burdened with guarding the secrets of book seven, Rowling seemed to delight in discussing her plot choices and clearing up the mysteries that have previously surrounded the books.

The character Rowling couldn’t bear to kill
One of the big stories that has been floating among fans for over a year is that one character gets a reprieve from death, while two others Rowling didn’t intend to kill end up dying in “Deathly Hallows.”

“Mr. Weasley, he was the person who got a reprieve,” Rowling said. “When I sketched out the books, Mr. Weasley was due to die in Book Five.”

Instead, another father dies in the end of Book Seven.

Though Rowling couldn’t bear to kill off Arthur Weasley, that didn't mean the other deaths in the book were easy to take. Given the blood bath that is “Deathly Hallows,” the writing of it was bound to be an emotional roller coaster.

But nothing in the entire process of the series was more difficult than writing the scene when Harry, accompanied by his deceased lost loved ones – including his parents James and Lily and his godfather Sirius — walks into the forest with the intent of sacrificing his life in the name of defeating Voldemort, Rowling said, adding it is her favorite passage in all seven books.

“I didn't cry as I was writing (that chapter), but when I finished writing, I had enormous explosion of emotion and I cried and cried and cried,” Rowling said.

“That was partly because of the content — and partly because it had been planned for so long and been roughed out for so long. And to write the definitive version felt like a — a huge climax.”

“The Deathly Hallows” is the climax to the last 17 years of Rowling’s life, a time when she has gone from a single, divorced mother living on public assistance to a happily married mother of three and one richest women in the world.

It’s now time to sit back for a bit and enjoy the life that Harry has given her, Rowling said. And, when she’s ready, there’s always that encyclopedia waiting in the wings.

“I’m not going to do it tomorrow because I’d really like a break,” Rowling said, laughing. “So you may be waiting.”

TODAY will air the exclusive interview with J.K. Rowling on Thursday and Friday. Portions are scheduled to air Sunday on “Dateline NBC.”

The book actually says that the sword has the power to present itself to any true Griffindor in need. When Harry and then Neville truly needed it, it appeared on its own. (Caught this on my third read, btw) :)So that silly goblin just 'thought' he'd be keeping that sword. lol

Here was the answer about the sword.

I just finished the book. Wow. I am, however, bothered by the fact that Fred died. The whole Remus and Tonks thing surprised me, but I think I knew something like that was going to happen when Remus asked Harry to be godfather to his son. Who better than the boy whose parents also died to protect him from the evils of Voldermort?
Yes, Fred dying just doesn't seem right to me.

Loving the part when Molly gets to kick some Lestrange a$$! What a fitting end for Bellatrix.

I'm going to have to go back and read the rest of the thread when I have some free time. With two small children at home, that just doesn't seem to happen too often.

I agree about how Love conquers all, but I keep going back to when DD said to Harry that it's not your abilities that matter, but your choices! After reading about his own mistakes that really stood out to me. It applies to all of them, and really all of us, too!

I finished the book earlier today...and it is my favorite...although I did find it a bit choppy in points.

I love that Harry lived...for a while...especially after what he saw in the pensieve...I didn't think he would.

That Fred, Tonks (who I love!) and Lupin died I hated. BUT...was glad that the original 3 survived. I was dang mad when I though Harry may die!

The epilogue left me with questions like others...

1. What are they all doing for careers?

2. What happened in those 19 years??

Also...what happened with Mad Eye's body...only his eye was ever found and that bothered me. I thought he deserved a proper burial.

Why did Narcissa lie about harry being dead? Did she know that Harry had saved Malfoy somehow??? Why did she do it?

Why did she only say what Neville was doing as a career? Who is the new headmaster...or mistress???

When Molly lashed out at Bellatrix...I laughed out loud!

and of course I cried a lot in this book.

And what about Dumbledore??? I'm going to reread...because I just didn't grasp a lot of what he was explaining to Harry...about his greed and need for the hallows??? He was trying to admit he was not a perfect man??? I need to reread it now!

I also thought when Ron came back and held his arms open for Hermione to hug him and she instead pummelled him was hilarious...and very real-life!

I wonder how they are going to be able to fit everything into the movie...and wonder if they will show them later in life???

Loved it!

By the time that movie is finished they'll be able to play themselves in 19 years...and they'll need new actors for the young characters!

*If that made no sense...ignore it....it's late

Made perfect sense! :teeth:

I think the Malfoys had their eyes opened when Voldermort made it Draco's duty to kill DD. Voldermort didn't think he would accomplish it actually he thought he would probably be killed. Also all the torture they incurred while Voldermort was possessing their house. Narcissa knew that if Draco was still in the castle and alive she had to get to him. It was again a mother's love that brought Voldermort down. She wanted him brought down she was tired of her family suffering at his hands and she knew that Harry could succeed in doing that. I never had the feeling that Narcissa was as evil as her husband or her sister. She showed that at the beginning of The Half Blood Prince when she went to Snape for help. Saving her son was more important than the "cause".

Most of my questions have been answered from reading this thread. The one thing I couldn't figure out was when Snape died and there was a vapor that came from him and Hermione conjured a flask for Harry to capture the vapor. What was the significance of the vapor??? (Mind you everything above has has been paraphrased. Hopefully some of you know the part in the book to which I am referring.)

The vapor was Snape's memories that Harry looked at using the Pensieve. He got to see Snape being friends with Lily.
