Harry Potter Book 7 *SPOILERS*

Yeah, James said he asked Teddy why he was there and Teddy said to see Victoire off.

Well I, like many here, loved the book! I plowed through it over the weekend - now I'll go back to re-read and really enjoy! I was one of the people who just had to read it through straight-away to know what happened... That's what I've done with all the others though too!

I was teary at all the deaths - Hedwig's was a shocker for me! The chapter that had me  like a baby though, was The Prince's Tale... I was crying so hard by the end of the chapter I actually had to put the book down for two minutes to compose myself - I couldn't see the words on the page to keep reading! Heartbreaking work there...

I'll admit to slowly working my way through this thread - so this may have come up already, but was anyone else wondering how Neville got Gryffindor's Sword? Afterall - wasn't it supposed to be with Griphook at Gringotts? (A colleague of mine had the same question!?!?!)

The book actually says that the sword has the power to present itself to any true Griffindor in need. When Harry and then Neville truly needed it, it appeared on its own. (Caught this on my third read, btw) :)So that silly goblin just 'thought' he'd be keeping that sword. lol

It seemed to me that he was seeing Victoire off to Hogwarts. I didn't get the impression that he was a student.

Ohhh, OK, that makes sense. Thanks!

I haven't read DH for a second time yet, so here's yet *another* question that I have as a result of reading too quickly:

At the end, when the portraits are cheering for Harry and celebrating the victory of Hogwarts, Phineus says something like "And let it be known that Slytherin played it's part".

I know that Snape and Regalus did heroic things, and Slughorn was fighting the Death Eaters in the final battle, but what did the current crop of Slytherins do to "play it's part" in the victory of Hogwarts? IIRC, all Slytherin did was produce a few would-be murderers (Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle) and a bunch of cowards who ran when it was time to fight.

So how, exactly, did Slytherin redeem itself?

Not so far as we know...at least not that I can remember. But considering what Snape had done all the years Harry had been at Hogwarts, I think it's safe to say Slytherin did wind up playing a big part.

It fits, too. Harry lived because of his mother's love. Snape's love for Lily is what kept him spying on Voldemort and protecting Harry. It's still the one thing Voldemort never understood, and it was ultimately his undoing.

LOVE CONQUERS ALL .

Harry was protected because his mother loved him, Voldermort was brought down cuz Snape loved Lilly, all his friends helped because they loved harry and when they thought he was dead, Nevill came through—again because he loved harry and his parents and grandmother who had died…..

I was a little surprised at the Dumbledore story line, but it ended up making sense at the end. I always thought that Snape was a good guy, just didn't figure out how.

I had to re-read the last "duel" a few times to really let what he was saying sink in.

I think that she ended it great with the 19 years later...

just my oppinoin, and sorry I did not read all of the pages here, at about page 5 of the thread, I just had to skip to the end.....;) now back to the middle of the thread to keep reading.

The Encyclopedia will be nice, but a nice, thick "what happened to who" chapter is what this book really needed - a way for us to *really* say goodbye to everyone, wether they lived or died.
ITA. I'd love to have an encyclopedia of all the people, places, and things, but I really would of liked a what happened to who chapter. That would of been much better then the epilouge IMO.

Neville's grandmother died? I must've missed that part. When did that happen?

But what about the *current* crop of Slytherins? Did any single one of them do anything heroic?

Well Crabbe or Goyle (have to go back and do my slow read, can't remember which) destroyed Ravenclaws Diadem with the FiendFyre. Even if it was by accident. Seemed like a pretty fitting thing that Slytherin's contribution would be by mistake and Phineas was grasping at straws.

Come to think of it, Phineas himself helped. Were it not for him communicating with Hermione through his portrait Snape wouldn't have known where to find them to leave the sword.

Last I remember of Neville's Gran, she was heading out of the Room of Requirement to join the fight. :confused3

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting the article about Rowlings intention to publish the dictionary. I love reading the bits she posts on her website about lesser known characters and things that got left out. I'm already looking forward to that dictionary!

I also gasped when I heard Mr. Weasley was the spared one. So glad she did that! I thought it was Hagrid like many others did.

:thumbsup2 Ah ha!

Well, Crabbe performed the spell that caused the cursed fire to destroy the Ravenclaw horcrux- so he did help to bring down Voldemort (even though he didn't mean to).
***Accentuate+, I didn't see that you had already said this!! Sorry!***

OK, I can't be the only one here that wishes that Pansy Parkinson would have ended up trapped in the Vanishing Cabinet, right?
