If you go HERE it will give you a tracking of where Hurricane Frances is heading. Tell your sister to stop worrying, what good is it going to do her anyway. ;) Have fun!

Right now the whole state is watching where the hurricane might go. This morning they predict the storm will hit Melbourne and may hit Central Florida. It is still too early to tell where Frances will go.

According to NOAA tracking maps this morning, Frances should hit central Florida on Sunday. Everyone should stay abreast of this situtation as we all know if can change, but looks like it will hit somewhere in Fl or the Carolinas.

I live down in Naples, FL. too soon to tell. Anywhere in FL, Carolinas or South of Florida. Won't know till end of week & we all know how these things can turn a little last minute. Keep your plans only time will tell.

Just watched the local news and I like in palm beach county. we are gearing up for Frances to hit most likely somewhere in south fla on saturday taking it thru central fla on sunday most likely a cat 3 by that time. Im waiting for the 8am advisory but it hasnt taken that nw turn like they thought so we will see.. Im off to get some hurricane supplies just in case. a cat 4 will cause alot of devastation here if it does hit us. Its as big as the state of fla right now:(

We are scheduled to arrive this Friday evening in Orlando for a three-night stay.

Naturally, I'm now within the Disney Resort five-day cancellation penalty period.

Does Disney ever extend cancellation privileges in anticipation of a hurricane?

Certainly I would wait until later in the week to see where the hurricane is tracking before deciding not to go, but it would seem to me that they would want to discourage additional guests if they have to worry about evacuating them!

I don't think WDW is worried about evacuating guests since during Charley many many people took shelter at Disney hotels.

I am sure they will have a hurricane cancellation policy.

I would call and double check but I have never had a problem cancelling or getting my deposit back due to a hurricane. the latest advisory at 8am is that its a cat 4 hurricane making landfall somewhere on the east coast of south fla on saturday and going thru central fla on sunday as a cat 2. we just have to watch and wait and see what Frances decides to do. :(

Cancellation/Change Policy--

I just called to book my rooms for the weekend in the event that I have to evacuate. For room only reservations the policy is as follows:

Cancellation is 5 days out--since we are within that window, you will be unable to cancel without losing 1 nights deposit....

BUT, you have until the day before your ressie to say you are not coming--then that 1 nights deposit can be credited towards any future reservation (you will need to move your reservation though--so even if you don't know when you can come back, just pick a date on the calendar so you do not lose your deposit).

If the day of you must cancel due to travel mishaps or whatever--you have to call the hotel directly and the manager will make the decision on whether you lose your deposit or can change your ressie.

I had to check this information as it is unclear when the hurricane would threaten my home--some reports say afternoon--and our local news has said as early as Saturday morning.

So it is correct you have opportunity to not LOSE your deposit--but you will not get REFUNDED either--unless you have trip insurance that covers these instances of trip interruption or flight cancellations etc.

Thanks very much for the information Lisa.

Fortunately, this weekend's stay is booked under the $49 postcard rate at Pop Century. So even if I can't get a refund or credit, I would only be out the fifty bucks or so.

While that's real money, at least we're not talking about a Grand Floridian deposit here!

The bigger concern would be the $100 per ticket change fee imposed by the airline!

AHA-- a light at the end of the tunnel :)

Some airlines prior to charley waived change fees--so it is possible you won't lose the $100 per ticket--
Unfortunately that calls for waiting it out for an imminent Florida strike :(

Good luck!

I'm watching closely. We arrive at 5:30 pm on Friday and are there for 3 nights. Florida residents certainly don't need another hurricane to do more damage.

I figure if I cancel then it won't hit the Orlando area so we are still planning on going.

Right now Frances is projected to hit the coast on Saturday and central Florida 2:00 AM Sunday. If this is the case, how long does the weather from a hurricane hang around? Will it be raining for a week, or does it clear out pretty quick because the storm is moving at a good pace? Does anyone know what was the case with Charley?

I had a situation in the past where I had to cancel the day we were supposed to arrive at WDW. I called CRO and they handled it for me. I didn't need to call the hotel directly. And I was lucky as I got my deposit back (seeing that it was $340 that made me very happy).

For now I have a reservation at WDW if this hurricane hits here.

We just cancelled our "post card" vacation, and yes Frances was a big factor.

I will have to say that it there was very little hassle, and for that I am thankful. We could have been taken to task over being inside the 5 day arrival period and by all right they could have kept our deposit. But I was pleasantly surprised when we received our deposit back.

We are now planing our February Disney vacation when there are a lot less hurricanes :p

We are very disappointed due to this being our daughters first trip, but I cannot fathom trying to drive out of Orlando on Sunday with umpteen thousand other people.

Yes we know it's to early to predict her course but we are erring on the side of caution vs. crossed fingers :D
