harricane Frances

I think this storm will be worse then the last one if it passes over Disney. Could be cat 5 by then.

I didnt think hurricanes gained in strength overland, anyways from www.noaa.gov it looks like its going to hit jacksonville as of now pretty hard.

True, but if the hurricane is a Cat 4 or 5 in the Atlantic, it doesn't have to travel very far over land before it hits inland areas.

The hurricane that was projected to go towards WDW has now shifted to Fla/Georgia border. WDW is no longer in its current path as of 11am Tuesday. Good luck to all of you going this weekend, I am sure you will get some rain but nothing like previously expected.:) :) :) :)

Don't forget how unpredictable Charley was until it actually made landfall.

I'm afraid it's still too early to say one way or the other whether Orlando will be hit.

I just checked the NOAA website and the path is projecting a shift now towards the Carolinas. Of course things are subject to change, but the direction has been changed according to NOAA. you can take a look at www.NOAA.gov then click on the article about Frances, then charts & maps. Gives you a 3 day and a 5 day projection. This looks like it might be good news for our FL friends, but not so good news for others on the coast of the Carolinas.

Hurricane tend to gain speed over land (traveling speed not wind speed). When they say a hurricane is expected to hit a certain spot they mean the eye of the hurricane. Remember a hurricane can be a big storm. Some in the past were well over 100 miles wide. The winds around the eye are the strongest but even the outer walls winds can reach up to 73 mph.

Watching this storm closely from Ft Lauderdale.

It depends on the surround conditions to the hurricane.

I woke up from Hurricane Hugo to Sunny Skies---

When Hurricane Irene hit--it was nasty weather for a couple of days.

Pretty much when charlie cleared--it became regular florida weather again with your typical summer afternoon t-storms. But it takes sevaral hours for a hurricane to completely pass through.

Our weathermen here are saying this hurricane is as big as the state of fla. you have tropical storm like conditions and than hurricane conditions for so many miles. I did go out this am and get some supplies. its just too early to say that fla is out of the clear. Its only Tuesday. Its better to be safe than sorry. Yes "they" are saying it has taken a turn more north but "they" said charley was going to hit Tampa too and it didnt. Its nature and so very unpredicatable. we just have to wait and see.

If it were just myself and my wife going I would go in a heartbeat. For some strange reason I have always been intrigued by hurricanes and wanted to see one "upclose," so I would have enjoyed it either way. But with a 2 year old and us driving we took the no option.

Besides we can now go for my dads Bday.

In genral though I don't think anyone can predict its course at this moment, it is just a hope, wait and see sort of thing...

Maybe it'll take a u-turn :D

Ok well we are heading to disney tonight, leaving around 2am to drive there, if this storm turns real bad by friday or saturday I guess we can go back to Atlanta. I just hope it moves out into the ocean. Having lived in florida for a long time I know all too well that these are not predictable.

I hope it all goes well, we are really going to miss not going this weekend (I am officialy slipping into a funk) but I do have Feb to look forward to :D

Have a safe drive

Lots of pixie dust coming your way keith-atl - be safe! Great idea DBGL - I'm voting for the storm to make a U-turn. My sister is in the Orlando suburbs & they just got everything cleaned up from Charley. Maybe if we all send some pixie dust...:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

yeah orlando is still recovering from charely. just got a email from my friend who is a cm at the csr she is going to pack her kids up and head to the resort if it heads on the path that they are saying at 5pm. :( she said at least they have generators. with charley she was without power for a few days. we just have to pray and hope for the best

When you call CRO--they have changed there message...they are monitoring Frances, but at the present regular cancellation policies are in place.

Keep in mind--if you cancel now with penalties, and they later waive penalties as landfall becomes more imminent, it may be difficult for you to get any recourse.

Just to keep in mind.

Got a suspicious e-mail from disney--evidently my hubby is up to something. I was actually worried he cancelled our ressies this weekend (our evac plan!!!) b/c of an earlier report of Frances turning. I called--b/c I was freaking--well, it ended up I didn't read the e-mail correctly and it was just an inquiry--but hubby upgraded us from AS sports to WL--YEAH some would think--I guess we would be safer there--but I just do not know how we will pay for it. I guess it would be much cooler on a sunny weekend :(

Does anybody know what Disney did for resort guests during the hurricane--I saw a bunch of all stars reports--about the food areas closing down and hunkering down in bathrooms--was curious if anybody knows what the other resorts did so that I can prepare for my kids accordingly.

It's path is looking better and better for Florida residents and those of us going to Disney. If it keeps veering, and goes much more north, I'll have better weather in Fl than if I had stayed in NY!

We will be leaving Thursday night driving straight to DW. Find a hotel to stay at Friday night and then drive to our resort Saturday and at least we will be there. Staying onsite 9/4 - 9/10.

This is the slowest time of the year for the parks, so this storm should make the lines even shorter.

Good luck to everyone that is going down there this holiday weekend and week.

DMRick...the veering is speculation...it has not happened yet. The projection field is teetoring back and forth. The little northerly (like .1 degree north) movement isn't enough to spare Florida at this point. It is a real threat to the eastern seaboard--and you might have some soggy weather yourself and some point in Frances' path.
