Hard-copy confirmations for stays at DVC resorts

I'm looking for some info from the experts (you!).

I recently rented points from an owner that I connected with through these boards. I paid the same day, and the owner made the reservations in my name. He emailed the confirmation number to me, and I called the DVC resort and they confirmed the reservation. Everything seems to be fine.

Here's the problem....for some reason, no matter how much I beg and plead with this person, he does not seem to want to send me the original confirmation he received from Disney. However, he did email me a copy he scanned, but I'm afraid that the resort will not accept this when I go to check in.

I'll be with a few other adults and an infant, so I'm not in a position where it will be easy to simply move to another resort if there's a problem (in other words, if it was just DH and I, we could just get in the car and drive to another hotel, but with a baby it's not that easy).

So, my question is....will the resort accept a scanned copy of the original at check-in??

If you have a scanned copy, I think that would be sufficient. When we rented some points, we didn't send the original either as it had our name, address, etc at the top. We were able to black that out on the copy we sent to the renter. We also keep the originals as a way of tracking our points.

Thanks, that makes sense (although the scanned copy contained all of his personal info :confused3 ).

We've never even needed our copy of the ressie on checkin. They have always been expecting us. I've sent my friends ordinary copies of their ressies for when they check in without me next Friday, I'm sure you'll be fine!

thanks! I was really feeling a little nervous. We have rented points many times but this is the first seller who would not forward the original.

Now that I know it's not really required at check-in, I can breathe easier :goodvibes

1) A confirmation is not needed at check-in.
2) Your name in in the computer or it isn't.
3) If it isn't, a confirmation may help tracing it.
4) However, the owner retains the ressie rights.
5) If he canceled the ressie, even a confirmation will not help you.
6) It still remains a matter of trust.

I do not send a copy of the original either. I fax a copy along with the rental agreement.

I've never sent the original when I've rented either. I figure if the renter misplaces his copy, I'll have the original in case I need to send him another one.

I always send the original why not I want them to have my name address and phone # and I have theirs

I agree Maria.

Why don't renters want rentees to have their name and address?? :confused3

How would the renter be able to change the rentees reservation? once the reservation is in the rentees name the renter should not have access. I know that I booked a regular room for my friend and put the room in my name thinking later that I could change it (which I couldn't) anyway my friend called to make the deposit payment and all that they would let her do is make the payment. They would not tell her anything about the reservation ~ period ~ because the ressie was not in her name.

So getting back to my question how can the renter do anything with the reservation once it is in the rentee's name?

This makes me nervous because we also ended up renting her points from another DIS'er.

The member always retains control of the reservation (except in case of a point transfer between two members). Theoretically, a member could cancel your reservation and keep your money. DVC nor the DISBoards are likely to take responsibility. However, in all my years hanging on the board, only a very few stories of unhappy rentals have been posted.

DVC is not CRO. There are certain risks involved in getting a great room for the price.

I'm not sure I understand your post, but I'll try to address it.

For DVC point reservations, the DVC owner always has absolute control of the reservation. I can make a ressie for someone, and put their name on the ressie, but they, as the non-owner can not change the ressie...they can only confirm the ressie with MS. Much the same as most reservations made through travel agents for flights and hotels, the agent controls the ressie. Almost all 3rd party reservations work like that.

If you book directly through Disney or any hotel, then you are acting as your own agent and have control of the reservation.

Not sure? :confused3 I was sent a fax and the original conf paper. It does have the guys address on it, but I already had that for the payment I sent him. I had his phone number too since he called 1st and we talked. That seemed to help the trust thing.

The one piece of information I wouldn't want a renter having is the member number. However, that's not even on the confirmations. I cannot imagine a reason not to mail the confirmation and keep a copy, if the renter wants it. If they lose it, I could always ask for another confirmation from DVC.

I really appreciate all the input and information. Good news...the original arrived yesterday, so I feel 1000% better about this upcoming trip.

Thanks everyone :sunny:

I always send the original to the rentee. I figure they paid for it, why not let them have the pretty DVC paper.

There's nothing on there I feel the need to keep private.

Hi Kim and Chris et al.
I have just rented points and have the confirmation number. Can i ring the resort(BWV) directly and confirm the reservation? or do i have to ring the member service. Did you have any problem confirming( as the member still hold the reservation) where do i get the number from. Sorry for asking question on your thrad but you seem to have confirmed successfully. Thanks for your help
Ruth

You can try member services. I called them and they (reluctantly) confirmed my reservation pretty early on. They probably won't do any more than that for you. BWV will probaby refer you to member services anyway.

Sorry, I don't have the number here at work, but I remember that I found it by googling "DVC member services" and was given an 800 number.

Good Luck!

Ruth, You need to call member services to check on the reservation. Do not call the main reservation number for all of Disney nor would I call the resort itself. The systems are different and you may get panicked when they can't find the reservation under the number you give them. If you want the number PM me and I'll send it to you or you can ask the DVC owner that rented you the points.

Y-ASK
