Happy about alcohol policy!!

In all seriousness...3 Disney cruises, haven't ever seen anyone getting super crazy with the alcohol. :confused3
I haven't either and people who are for this policy are acting like there will now be no alcohol on board so the children will be shielded from all the alcohol and all of us alcoholics who like to have a drink to unwind on our Veranda when the young children sleep or in my case when my daughter is in the teen club that Disney keeps open until 1 am or later because I can't go to sleep until she is back to the room. They even keep it open late on the last night when we have to be up at 6 am. Yes I could make my daughter come back earlier but it is her 1 major vacation a year also. If I sit at the pool I am offered a drink that would be delivered to me at least 10 times an hour and if anyone thinks they are not attempting to get you buzzed in the various Alcohol tastings you have never been to a tasting.

I still plan to cruise Disney this year but the exact cruise I went on a couple of months ago went up $500 for the same time this year. The only reason I haven't cancelled is because my daughter has her heart set on it. I didn't really care that much when the policy change came out but reading peoples attitudes who assume anyone who is questioning the change is an Alcoholic has made me care. The day Disney decides to go "Magic Kingdom" and eliminate all alcohol on there ships I will support this change, then all of the judgmental people who think everyone that brings a case of Beer on board are out of control drunks will be able to cruise peacefully........and believe me, that would be a very peaceful cruise!

What I find interesting about these threads about how people would never drink in front of children and would prefer no one else did either is how I have never met anyone like this AT ALL in real life. I have lived in a few different cities in the Midwest and South, but never heard such a thing.

We drink, but I know several who do not and that is fine. However, they attend work events or parties or dinners and just politely decline alcohol. I have never been around anyone who refuses to even have it in their presence.

To me, this is one of the only on the DIS things. Just an observation...

I haven't either...*snip*...
Talked to my husband about this yesterday (he's been on 2 of the 3 cruises with me) and I said that on our last cruise a couple of weeks ago we were heading to Europa and I saw someone stumble coming out...and I thought *maybe* she was drunk for about a second but then I realized that she just, well, stumbled. And I trip multiple times on a daily basis 100% sober, sooo....yeah, that's the closest thing I've seen to someone being drunk and it wasn't even that!

He agreed we hadn't seen any insane alcoholic behavior on DCL.

Right?! The internet is a funny place. The pearl clutching is just...:confused3

They're the type who are only brave enough to say it on an anonymous message board. They'd never be brave enough to say it to your face. They'd just sit there quietly and stew and grumble...

and I say that as a self-proclaimed introvert so I know of what I speak :-)

I just can't imagine feeling happiness about something that causes someone else frustration or stress. That is the meat and potatoes of being oppositional or antisocial, that feeling joy when the vast majority of others are sad or disappointed or angry. Yep. Not a behavior gravy boat I'd like to float in.

i want to give the opp the benefit of doubt and hope that they thought there would be NO alcohol on board and not that they were happy that it would cost others more. i just hope they didn't understand what the new policy was, that they didn't get that their post was kind of mean spirited.
pollyanna.

If I'm reading this correctly, you are talking about people who won't drink in front of their kids and don't want anyone else to either. If so, living in the Midwest now, I DO know people like this. While the parents will attend functions with alcohol, and may even have a drink, their children are not allowed. This includes family functions like weddings. So, unfortunately, they are real and not necessarily just internet agitators. :sad2:

Will you be happy when they start charging for your kids in the kids club, doesn't affect me but I won't come online and say how I am happy about something when thousands will be unhappy about it, that is just mean spirited and quite frankly an*l.

Sadly, that type of kid is the one who gets their stomach pumped as a freshman

In the movie "Smokey and the Bandit" Buford Sheriff T Justice was in a dialogue with another Sheriff, Buford said, "the gosh darn Germans ain't got nothing to do with this."

This policy is not about limiting drunk people and has nothing to do with that, this is strictly just a way for DCL to boost it's bottom line for alcohol sales, all about that $$$$.

I was going to say I'll be very happy when they start charging for the kids clubs until I thought about it and realized that just meant more kids would be wandering.

So, see, we really do ALL win when we let DCL make our decisions for us. I hope you get a really nice trophy when you win. Maybe you can have all the characters sign it on the cruise! Oh, wait...
Best. Comment. Ever. You made me snort-laugh.

I have seen many more unruly children then drunks. But maybe its there parents who are drunk so the little ones can do what they want.

I wouldn't say I'm super stoked either way! TBH I am 27 and this was the first time I planned to drink (figures, ha ha) and it's no biggie. We're still allowed to bring some stuff and to be honest not a lot of cruises even allow that. I can see why some people are bummed, it was one of the nice perks. But some of the way that people are reacting is just over the top. I mean it isn't a heavily 'drinky' type of cruise, it's more of a family cruise. They still offer alcohol on the ship and you can still bring some beer and wine. I don't know exactly why Disney stopped doing it but I'm sure the people deciding weren't sitting at a table debating on "how we can upset all our cruisers today", there was prob a legit reason and it is what it is. Still bummed for people who enjoy bringing liquor and doing adult FE's but let's take it gracefully folks! :worship: <<< and peace all around folks! Just my opinion! :yay:

I wouldn't say I'm HAPPY about it, but it's not impacting me enough to go bonkers about it and write letters to CEO's. Nor will it determine if I cruise Disney v somewhere else. At least they still let you bring SOMETHING on. This has apparently touched a HUGE nerve with folks though. Can't say I'd cancel a cruise over the fact I can't bring my own liquor. Not a deciding factor for me.

SERIOUSLY. My biggest problem on my recent cruise were the obnoxious kids down the hall from me - screaming (I don't mean talking loudly, I mean legit screaming) and stampeding down the hall like elephants. They kept messing up the one magnet we had on our door (my husband happened to open the door and catch on in the act! :teeth:).
