Here's this year's crop of pumpkins from our annual Pumpkin Carving Party! Many of our party-goers are Disney fans, so we had quite a few Disney themed pumpkins!

Vampire Mickey, Stitch, Halloween window scene (my carving) and Ariel.

DD15 carved the dragon, and DD9 carved the ghost.

A bat, a deer (WOW), DD6's "Hidden Mickey" pumpkin (she carved it all by herself, start to finish), and a "Posh Kitty".

Winnie the Pooh, Tinkerbell, Vampire Mickey, and Stitch

The masterpiece of the evening; DH's Snarling Dragon. Took him just about 8 hours to complete. I am in awe...

WOW- my hat is off to your Dh-that dragon is amazing.is he an artist, did he free hand that or stencil, either way its awesome.
i like all the designs, i made a mickey.:thumbsup2

:)I was going to say "very nice", but then I came to the last one!!!!! That is awesome - tell your Dh he is very talented. MY Dh makes really scary pumpkins each year, but nothing like that!

Thank you for sharing those!!!:wizard:

The dragon it very cool, but my favorite is the "Mickey trick or treat" one. I can't help it, I just love Mickey! :lovestruc I did a Mickey and a Minnie pumpkin last year, I tried to post a picture, but I am a total computer idiot, and don't know how to post pics.

Dh is very artistic. That was done using a stencil, but he also does awesome drawings and is very very detail-conscious. he is able to concentrate for very long periods of time on incredibly detailed designs.

I, on the other hand, am still stuck firmly in the land of stick figures and happy faces. I have zero drawing talent.

DD15 inherited DH's artistic talent. She loves Anime-style things, and free-hands drawings in that style. Here is an example of one of her works.

Had I mentioned I am challenged by stick-figures??

very nice, its good to have artisic family members, my dd26 has it and my dh and ds18 both have extreme talent with furniture. i have good ideas and can decorate but when it comes to drawing or building -none! but i can paint as long as someone else draws it or makes it.

How do you carve them? What do you use and how did your DH get so much detail???

Outstanding, thx for sharing you very impressive pumpkins!! :thumbsup2

Very, very nice.. Just so you know, I love Tinker Bell - so if that one comes up missing..well..:rolleyes1

Over the years, we have bought many many carving sets. You can find them in stores; they usually come with a book of patterns and several little saws. We would make copies of the patterns and save the originals, and save all the little tools. Then we discovered that we could search for and print out patterns on the 'net, so we started doing that too. Now, many years later, we have an entire file cabinet drawer filled with patterns and books, and a huge collection of tiny little saws and drills and scoops.

DH printed out that horrifically detailed pattern from the net, taped it on his cleaned-out pumpkin, and used a tiny little poke-er to poke holes all around all the areas to be carved. This (together with cleaning it out) took about 2 hours. Then he took the pattern off (and saved it so he could use it as a visual guide) and spent the next 6 or so hours carving and scraping all the areas out. He used the tip of a tiny eyeglasses screwdriver to do the smallest areas. :scared1: Most of the pumpkin isn't actually cut all the way though, its actually carved and scuulpted to give it more texture and detail.

It takes a HUGE attention to detail, a very steady hand, and TONS of patience. I am not personally gifted with any of those things. :rotfl:

I will remember that. I think it would look lovely looking out from your cabin over your lake.
