Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Sandy:)

You posts were one of my motivators to make myself believe I could take on a 1/2 marathon!!!

How is it going??!!

11 more days until I'm at Disney! I'm so excited. I haven't been since Jan 2008 and I was only there for marathon weekend. My girls and DH haven't been since Dec 2006. My DH hates WDW, but is a good sport about going as long as I schedule enough pool time. He doesn't like all the rushing around to make rope drop stuff.

Did I mention that I get to take 3 trips to WDW between Dec and March? I'm still not quite sure how that happened. We scheduled the Dec trip over a year ago. This summer my mom told me that she wanted to do Donald again and I decided to go with her, but without my kids and DH. Once that decision was made, I decided that it made sense to purchase an annual pass in Dec. (You can see where this is going, can't you?) A few months ago, a co-worker decided to make the princess half her first half marathon, and that annual pass will just be burning a hole in my pocket, so there you go. My DH is being super sweet about having that much alone time with the girls!

Anyway, I've got an 8 miler scheduled for this weekend and then I'll do 9 miles right before we leave on our trip. I am NOT planning to run at WDW, but a week off shouldn't hurt me. Glad to hear that training is going basically well and I hope some of these "injuries in the making" stop developing!

Sandy: Where are you? How is the training going?

Maroo: How is your diet?

dislvr: Good luck on you eight miles this week-end.

OK I'm jumping back in after my DIS hiatus!!!

I'm going to see what I missed.:surfweb:

OH YEA..... SANDY OHHHHHH SANDY WHERE ARE YOU?????:confused:

AWOL that's all there is to it! If I'm not posting chances are pretty high I'm not training... :sad1: I have a gazillion excuses - all led by fear... and insecurity.

Dolce :cool1: WTG - and you also have the added stress of moving - which should replace the stress of your current living arrangement! continued safety prayers!!

eeyor/Lisa Thank you for hanging in there!! :worship: It will help to keep me moving!!

Dolce thnks for the countdown... :faint:

Maroo have you worked out again with Lisa? How far is it for you to drive to Nashville - September ? Hope you are staying strong - not much time till your December trip - dont forget the training!

DisneyBride'03 You are right on track - if you havent checked out the Couch to 5K program - it is a good starting point - but the hardest part is just doing it every day - not giving up on yourself!! :goodvibes

dislvr "trust the training" ah see, now they do go hand in hand - to respect the distance I have to DO the training - put in those miles!! and you may have noticed I had never run further than 5 miles before the CDC - and the '08 Disney Half - so virtually no training... after all it was just a "walk in the parks" and I was lucky if i did a 2 or 3 mile training once a week... I was ok in the summer, and fall before the Disney Half - I did ok - did a few 5K races, and I did the Shamrock Shuffle - that was a long 6 miles (a 10K) but it never did hit me that I wasnt training...

Tim How's your training? Has Melody joined the Dis?

So this weekend I'm definately going to try and come up with 10 miles (altho 7 would be safer since I havent run in 2 weeks... or has it been 1 week?) DH and I are going to go to the park - and he's going to put in 20 miles... while I do 10 and he'll be finished before me... (I hear an Irish song now!!)

Then on the WISH board they are challenging us to join the virtual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving day - and I'm tempted - I may be the Dead Last Finisher, but I should, I need to do those 6 miles....

For Thanksgiving - I will clean house this weekend, hopefully get the lights up outside, and put a tree up inside - (so on Turkey day the kids can decorate it for me!!)

Wed before bake pies, assemble all the sides - dressing, cornbread, cranberry sauce (that may have to wait till Turkey Day)

Today DH and I went shopping - 4 stores, and not one turkey that hasnt been pre brined! DH so wants to brine the bird! If anyone needs an award winning awesome tasting pumkin pie - let me know!! Its super duper easy (no evaporated milk ) But know there is a shortage of the Libby's canned pumkin!

So where is everybody else in their training??

Thanks for hanging in with me - I suppose if not for your nudgings, I'd fall off altogether!!

And THIS is why we’re calling your name over here, demanding that you get your booty back here and hold yourself accountable. We believe in you and we know that you can do it. Trust that we know all and get out there and do it because you can. :thumbsup2

For me: I’m stressing. Sandy, this is seriously tough on me as well. I do have some worries about completing 16 miles tomorrow. I’ve only been seriously running since August. It’s not easy. It’s just not for this many miles and being a new runner. But. I have to do it. I have to work on the mental challenge of it and just do it. In less than two months I have to run 26.2 miles and cutting out on my training now will not change that fact. I will still be standing at that Start line at 6:00 am on January 10, 2010. Either I can stand there confident that I have the training in and can complete a full marathon in a reasonable time or I can stand there scared because I failed on my training and am uncertain if I can physically make it through all of those miles and stress about being swept. The choice is mine.

So, despite my fear of my 16 mile run tomorrow – I will be there and I will be doing my best to run all 16 of those miles. Next week will be tough on me. Next Wednesday night I’m returning to my hometown for an informal high school class get-together. (I graduated high school in 1997 so my actual 10 yr reunion was two years ago, which I missed). The next morning I have to be up early as I’m running the Dallas 8 mile Turkey Trot with about 35,000 other people. That night I will start moving stuff. Friday morning the movers come, that afternoon is when pple come to hook-up my tv, internet, ect…, the next morning, Saturday, I have to run another 16 miles and then return to my old apt. to clean. Sunday will be spent unpacking and Monday it is back to work.

It’d be easy for me to talk myself out of next Saturday’s (not tomorrow’s) 16 mile run because of that busy schedule. However, unless I physically cannot do it – I plan to be out there running. I will thank myself for making that run on the morning of Jan 10, 2010.

Sandy, isn't it a little early to be doing 10 miles? I think you should stick with 7 miles. Maybe you could post your training plan (just your LR schedule), we might have some good advice for you.

Dolce, I am so impressed with anyone who attempts a full. I can't imagine doing 16 miles, but I bet you remember not being able to imagine doing 5, or 8, or 10! You can do this and you are going to be so proud of yourself when you finish!

That is the truth. I ran 7 1/2 Wed night like it was no big deal. I'd gladly do a half-marathon now. Five months ago I couldn't even run 1 mile outdoors.

So I never get taper madness, but it seems that I have developed pre-trip madness resulting in spending way too much time here.

Anyway, it is wrong that I am excited because I thought I had to do 8 miles tomorrow, but I really only have to do 7? I'm seriously much happier about running because I have one less mile to do. I really hate training. Love the races, hate the preparation.

This used to be me and is why I now spend Thanksgiving at Disney. Don't get me wrong. I love to cook and entertain, but the past few years, I did all the work while everyone else sat around watching tv or whatever.

You said this so well, Dolce. Pretty much what I have been saying to myself this past week.

but I bet you remember not being able to imagine doing 5, or 8, or 10! You can do this and you are going to be so proud of yourself when you finish!
Most definitly!!!!:thumbsup2

Really?????? WOW! I am impressed with the progress you have made.

Now, I am back, but just for tonight as tomorrow or actually later this morning (@6:00am) we will be heading south to Disney. I have been super busy with work and home which is why I haven't been around much. I did do 4 miles last night. I am getting slower, not sure why. Perhaps just so much on my mind this week? :confused3 And I was up at 4:00am yesterday getting ready for the Thanksgiving Lunch at work.

I won't have internet at Disney but will catch up when I return. I know that we will be walking a lot each day, but not sure how much that really counts. I am going to try to get a couple walks in next week. Notice I said try. :rolleyes1

Tim, hello :wave2:

Maroo, how is WW? How are you feeling?

Sandy, I love pumpkin pie. PM me your recipe? Please. Good luck on your 10 miles.

Dolce, how is the ankle and knee. Be careful moving boxes this week.

Dislver74, three trips in four months? and I thought my three trips in 12 months was a lot. Of course, there's Maroo. I've lost count of how many times she has been/is going. :upsidedow and she has such great trips. Looks like we'll just be leaving as you all are arriving.

You guys just go and go and go! Kinda like the Energizer Bunnies or something...:worship:

Yeah me! I finally had a decent run. I got my 7 miles in and really tried to focus on consistency. I have a tendency to start out too fast and drop my pace by over a minute a mile towards the end. I don't have a time goal for WDW, except that it would be nice to beat my previous time, but I would like to run a consistent pace and finish strong.

My splits:
mile 1: 12:50
mile 2: 12:44
mile 3: 12:34
mile 4: 12:34
mile 5: 12:59 (ate some sports beans)
mile 6: 12:33
mile 7: 12:13

I was doing r1/w1 and even though I would like to run more, that is a ratio that works for me so why change it? I'm going to wait until a later race to try to pick up my pace and increase my running time. It isn't like I'm not going to have more opportunities after January!

Anyone else do a LR today? How did it go? Dolce, I think you run tomorrow. Be sure to stop by and report in!

Sandy, I hope you don't mind that we have turned your pre-trip report into a training journal. I have a tough time keeping up with the threads on the W.I.S.H. board.

Sandy: I'm waiting for your update! popcorn:: I know that you did something today. I have faith in you girl.

eyor: Have a blast on your trip and be safe. :goodvibes I'm envious. I need my Disney fix.

dislvr: Congrats on your awesome run! :thumbsup2 Most of us do start out too fast. This is why I tagged along with a pace group for my half marathon that I did on Nov 1 and I may do the same at Disney.

My long runs are Saturdays so I did get in my 16 miler this morning. I was extremely nervous going in as I struggled with the 14 miles last Sat. Thankfully, I had a pretty good run. I didn't have any problems until mile 12 1/2. Up until then everything was great. Around that point my legs began to feel a bit like led and I was soooooo looking forward to mile 16. I was thankful when it was time to stop. I like the stopping part and reporting my run to you guys here on the DIS. That's the fun part. I always follow my runs with a 1/2 mile walk cool-down. (I'm not one that likes to be at a run and then just stop.) OK. Let's be honest here: that 1/2 mile is never a walk. It's a limp, a hobble, a crawl ... anything but a walk. :lmao: I averaged a 9'30 m/m pace which I'm content with. I threw out a "time" of 4:10:20 for the Disney marathon for the heck of it. Today's run had me right on track to make that time. Let's see how I do on race day.

I've been on the go since 6:00 am. This is the first chance I've really had to sit down all day. I do a 1/2 mile warm-up walk before my runs (I actually love to walk - I could do that all day) So, I had a 1 mile walk and a 16 mile run this morning and then one of my errands today was to walk a new location that I'll begin doing my long runs at next Sat. Since I'm moving this week, I don't want to drive back to my current training location. That was a 2 1/2 mile loop - - so add that to the 17 from this morning.

Hi guys! Quick update!

I was not really on much this weekend or Friday. 3 Days without much DISing!?!

I was able to complete 2/3 of my Treadmill training sessions. I did NOT get my 4 miles in this weekend at all. :sad2:

I had a surprise guest and a surprise wedding. I say surprise, because I really thought that she was going to the wedding by herself and I would have the afternoon to get my run in. I did not get an invitation and was not about to spend a bunch of money on clothes and a gift if this person did not want me to come to the wedding. You know what I found out?!?!? She invited me...and everyone else...over FACEBOOK. Who does that? What happened to the wedding invitations you send in the mail? :confused3 Very odd. Did I miss the memo that it is now ok to invite people to your wedding over email or Facebook??

Long story short - Friday was spent buying clothes and Saturday was spent driving 2 hours to this wedding and back. And Sunday I had Rachel all day because her Mom was doing the Operation Shoestring Mission stuff.

But...I did clean my house. And when I say clean...I mean...serious cleaning. Baseboards. Walls. Floors. And I finished my decorating. It was worth MEGA points on WW (did you know you can count cleaning?). I also did over 10 loads of laundry (all of my blankets, comforters, sheets, etc, etc). So...I feel like I got a workout. I am actually sore. :rotfl:

I have lost another pound, despite my less than stellar weekend. (I was totally not on plan). But I am back on the wagon today.

maroo: :cool1: Congrats on another pound lost!!! And count me as one who thinks that a general FB wedding invite is tacky.

sandy: where are you?

Great running everyone!!!!! :thumbsup2:hippie:

I hit the gum this morning after 2 weeks of not going.:sad2: I only ran a mile today though.. I didn't eat before I went- BAD move. I started feeling light headed and jittery. I didn't want to fall off the treadmill, so I ended up just walking most of it. At the end I sprinted for 5 minutes. I was on the treadmill for 45 minutes total and I didn't even look at how much distance I did. I guess 3 1/2 to 4 miles.:confused3

I really need to get to the gym 3 days a week. 2 isn't enough. I did weigh 202 lbs yesterday morning..... come on 199!!!!!!!!

I did it!!!!!!

4 miles!

In 70 minutes and 38 seconds.

If I could keep that pace up...and not go leave the course for ANY reason...it would still take me 3.85 hours (3 hrs 51 min)...which is too long.

But I did it!

The more I walk the faster I will be...I am sure of it! :)

So that sorta makes up for not going 4 miles this weekend. :)

Great running everyone!!!!! :thumbsup2:hippie:

I'm sorry! I didn't mean to ignore this post yesterday! Congrats on getting out to the gym. :cool1: Awesome job! Eating before a workout is a good thing. :teeth: but I think that you now know that. What was your speed on the treadmill? A 6.0 setting will give you a 10 minute mile. You can try to guesstimate your distance based off of that.
