Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

 Maroo (and your Lisa is not our eeyor/Lisa!! not to be confusing!! :rolleyes1)

5K at Disney - in '08 the "medal" was a square piece of leather, and one Dis'er/WISHer did it with her dd and her goal was to meet the WISH team (and me!! ) and spend the weekend with her dd (12 I think) anyway, I know they were disappointed in the leather "medal" it was crowded, a lot of strollers - it was a mad house - so she wouldnt recommend it...

I think your Princess Half is a great goal!! :thumbsup2

Your 17mm is great - like Dolce says strive to maintain an even pace throughout!!

chafing - tip - get a pair of compression shorts! They are about $30 I wear them under shorts, or sweats/running pants and poof - no more chaffing problems!! ALSO buy a stick of BodyGlide - that stuff works too!!

I was wearing compression shorts. :rolleyes1 I have the special Tri shorts. Which have never done that. I think I just had a wrinkle or something??

Here are the Lisa's in my life...

Liesa - All7ofUs
Lisa - Lauren's Mom
Lisa - eyor44
Lisa - Lauren's full time assistant at school

The bad thing is that they are often referred to in the same context...Lisa from the DIS...oh, no, not that Liesa, the other Lisa!

Lauren's Lisa - no, not that Lisa - her other Lisa!

Lisa is going with me...no, not that Liesa, the other Lisa!

I am confused just typing it!

IN FACT:... Disney even got confused! I reserved a room for Lisa and I and they had Liesa on there!!!! Liesa was on the ressie in March. I was like...Uh...no...she will be in blank-a-stan!

tri shorts - hmmmm that means you must have an ULTIMATE GOAL - do a triathlon!! :cool1:

You should read the WISHers on the Tri thread!! Amazing!! There are 3 kinds of triathlons - the Ironman is the LONGEST... :faint: DS did an olympic - that seemed "doable" (only like a 1 mile swim, and I think a 10 K run/ie 6 miles - the bike I forget - but it was a beautiful day on Lake Shore Drive! Chicago that is!!)

ok with the shorts, go with Gold Bond powder or BodyGlide!!

(and maybe we all should change our names to Lisa!! Such a pretty name - and all those ladies you mention are beautiful!! - inside and out!!)

BodyGlide, BodyGlide, BodyGlide. I won't mention to where I all have to use it - but it works!! I've had zero problems with chafing or blisters and I'm running 4 days/week and my long runs are in the double digits now. It looks like a deodorant stick. I don't know where all you can purchase it at - I buy mine at a running store.

Sandy: About to send you a PM

Got it! :thumbsup2 Will do!

You are also very giving!!

Maroo I did 3 today!! :thumbsup2

I sure didnt want to! I wanted to take a nap!! (stayed up too late last night, and had wine! :faint:) BUT because Maroo did 3 - I felt I had to do 3...

then as I was into mile 2 - I thought... dagnabbit, it's time to start training for those LAST THREE MILES!! I did 9 on Sunday - and I was ok when I finished - so today I kept thinking I have to move like its the last 3 miles!! :wizard:

Its still took me 50 minutes to go 3 miles...

But I did it.

and I didnt want to! :cool1:

Oh and today's selection (THis one may make you cry...)

Alabama - Angels Among Us...
I was walking home from school on a cold winter's day
Took a shortcut through the woods and I lost my way
It was getting late and I was scared and alone
Then a kind old man took my hand and led me home
Mama couldn't see him, but he was standing there
But I knew in my heart, he was the answer to my prayers

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

When life dealt troubled times and had me down on my knees
There's always been someone there to come along and comfort me
A kind word from a stranger to lend a helping hand
A phone call from a friend just to say I understand
Ain't it kind of funny at the dark end of the road
Someone lights the way with just a single ray of hope

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

They wear so many faces
Show up in the strangest places
Grace us with thier mercy
In our time of need

Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love

(Its too slow to wog to, ))

I have actually already done a triathlon...actually two of them!

I call it a BABY triathlon because it is shorter than sprint. It was a 1/4 mile swim (I think?), 10K bike and 5K "run"...I walked the run part. I guess I did jog some. My strength is swimming. I can swim a mile at a time with ease and am pretty fast. Biking is also not terribly hard for me. It is the running that gets me every time. But I have always finished and never been last...although I came close this last time.

This guy was slower than me...he had run for Governor...so that was good...He was slower and famous!

Very true! All of the Lisa's (and Liesa) are all very sweet! I will be LisaMaroo. lol

Poor TIM! :sad2: Maybe we should warn him away like they did on our Sept trip report.... :)

I have some of that stuff...:thumbsup2

I have never had to use it...I really normally don't have any issues. Maybe I should do BOTH. :)

:thumbsup2 All the sporting goods stores carry it - and I think I've seen it at Target - or maybe WalMart - but its really important!!

Sandy...
So what race/walks have you done in Chicago..?? I saw you mentioned that Shamrocl shuffle!
We did a MS walk , love walking on the lakefront...but we froze....first weekend in April!!

I walked 3 miles today..(TM) in 45 minutes...however..if I keep this pace for the 1/2, how does one stop for a little girls room break...?! lol

And what about those holsters you runners wear..what do you keep in them...? I will have to practice like Clint Eastwood getting waters out so I dont have to stop!!!

Isnt Tim going away for a few days? :rotfl2:

Maroo :cool1: :woohoo: AWESOME :cheer2: A tri! :woohoo: I used to be very strong in swimming also - dh not so much!! which makes him mad btw!!

DB'03 I like doing the Fleet Feet all women's 5K, Shamrock Shuffle 10K is a good race (except its 6 miles!!!) and then I did the Chicago Distance Classic - which is now under a new name - I volunteered for the Chicago Triathlon in August - ds 21 did the Tri! The weather for that was AWESOME!!

There is plenty of time to run to the little girls room - again, like what Dolce said - training - all this time you spend in training, you want to practice drinking while on a long run, use the electrolytes, the blox, the beans, or the pills - see what works best - and a practice race is a great way to get a feel for the nerves, and the mass of people running past you!!

At the Donald - you will get there around 4 or 5 am - you will drink and eat breakfast (bananas, water, and I take the granola bars the oatmeal one with protein!) then use the portapotty several times before you line up... then laugh at all the people that are in line at 5am - but by 6am they are running in the bushes to relieve themselves... :rolleyes1 (and thank God it isnt me!!)

I planned to use the bathroom in Frontierland - because of a/c and flush toilets!! One of the Dis'ers from DISsign board met up with me at the start line, and she visited quite a few portapotties and still finished well before me!!

so the key - training. Know your body, practice, and train... only take sips of water at each station - eat a block, maybe 1/4 of the cup of water if its not too hot... or just enough to keep your mouth wet...

and the holster I use I got at Target - after trying quite a few, I found one that can hold my girls quite nicely - I am too heavy up there - so I want them tucked in so they arent...:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc all over the place! Mine has a 2 hook in the back - which helps compress them in and keep them in place!!

totally showing I am a newbie in billboard lights...lol

beans...pills..blox..??? yikees
i am currently inpatiently waiting for our late postman..my marathoning for mortals book is suppose to arrive today!

Beans, blox, and gel - they are a runner's friend!!

Jelly Belly makes a very small package of jelly beans (I've had red, green, and blue!! DD loves these, she has low blood sugar, and these seem to really help!)

Blox - these taste something like the jello knox blox - thick, chewy, stick to your teeth - but then they bring something to the back of your jaw - - and it makes my mouth water!! Lots of flavors - at the running expos we've been to - they always have them out to taste - orange, pomegranite, rasberry, etc etc

I tend to like these because they take me awhile to eat, and its not like candy - jelly belly makes me feel like I'm eating candy... its a mental problem!!

the gel - well if you've ever had to take a pregnancy glucose test - to see if you have gestational diabetes - and had to drink the thick syrupy stuff.... that's what the gel reminds *me* of - so I cant stomach them personally - but dh likes them, they have coffee flavors, chocolate flavors, no flavor, orange, red, etc etc.... GU makes them and sponsors lots of races so again, they are readily available!!

Go to a sporting goods store - even Wal Mart in the drug store section - they have cliff bars, adkins bars, kellog's bars, slim fast bars - this is usually where you find the beans, blox, and gu!!

and definately take them on a trial run with you!!

You must try something in training before you do it for the race day!!

You should be giving your body something before you go out for a long run - 1/2 banana is really good - you want to feed your muscles, give your brain some food too!!

:sad2:

Poor Tim. We really are going to have to warn him.

:lmao:

For some reason I think that guys handle women's "locker room" talk better than women handle guy's "locker room" talk. (with maybe the exception of one particular topic. ;) ) :lmao:

Disneybride: I love these: Cliff Shot Blocks:

http://www.thebetterhealthstore.com...MP&sku=2225238061&ovcpn=CLIF&ovcrn=2225238061

This is what I take. It fuels you for every 30 minutes. So, I eat real food before my run. I take two blocks at mile 4 (37 minutes into my run) and then I take another two blocks at mile 7 and then again at mile 10. That gets me through a 1/2 marathon. So, I take 2 blocks aprox twice an hour. I find the taste to be great! My co-worker (also a runner) hates them. :confused3

This is the original of the supplements: GU:

http://www.guenergy.com/products/gu-energy-gel

I've never tried it. I know people who hate this stuff. Except for a woman at my running store. She loves this stuff!!! She'd eat it for breakfast if she could! I heard that it has an after taste.

This is also part of the GU family: GU Chomps:

http://www.guenergy.com/products/gu-chomps

I have tried these - I tried the strawberry. When I first stuck one in my mouth I thought it was fine... and then there was an aftertaste. I did not like that! One of the partners at work (also a runner) loves the GU Chomps and disagrees with me about the aftertaste. (but I'm right. I just can't tell her that! :rolleyes1)

These are the "jelly"beans:

http://www.sportbeans.com/

The co-worker of mine that hates the Cliff Shot Blocks (that I love) loves these. I've never had these so I have no idea what they taste like.

Oh, and Sandy: no name tag. You know that I won't be at the POP meet that Friday night - right? I wont see you until we all meet up for dinner Sat night.

I've been hanging in so far.

As long as the locker room talk doesn't go there I should be OK. :lmao:

Maybe I do need to take a break from this thread....:rolleyes1 I think I could be the lone guy here. :confused3

Tim, you HAVE to hang in there with me. I think I may be the lone "I HATE exercise so much, I'd rather pluck each toenail out one by one" person. Please!!! Don't leave me!! :lmao:

I think that you are the lone guy over here but we like having you around! :goodvibes I don't expect much "locker room" talk on this thread but there were a couple of things related to running that just needed to be addressed.

... and toenails?? ouch! :headache: running is not that painful! I promise!

OUCH! That sounds painful!!!! But I'm not going anywhere!

(Technically, I am but I'll be back on Monday:goodvibes)

I haven't run far enough yet to have to deal with Jelly Beans, astro glide, chaffing, blox, and gu!!!!:rotfl:

I guess I need to get on the ball!!! LOL:rolleyes1
