Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

Lisa :goodvibes I so appreciate you are coming here and sharing!! You've worked so hard - and I just noticed....

LESS THAN A WEEK TILL YOU ARE IN DISNEY

:woohoo:

Now is that going to cause some stress? How's the packing going? With all that's going on It seems like you should really enjoy the time in Disney!!

Dolce you a "thread killer" :rotfl: I dont think so - altho I've had that same thought after I posted my pictures!! Since Dh is doing the Goofy - he's slated for 17 miles today :scared1: He's not looking forward to it -

Lisa You know you are right - I had given myself permission to walk the 17 min miles, to slow down... to maintain a pace - I often when listening to my ipod (which Dolce isnt using!!) count a pace/beat... to make sure I'm maintaining a pace...

it did seem to click at the end!

:scared1:59 Days People :scared1:

Dolce I think you did great you improved over the last effort and had more learning moments all of which is outstanding.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you :goodvibes I'm already stressing about next Saturday's run. Why, oh, why can't I be signed up for the half instead of the full?? :headache:

I did walk 4 miles on Thursday, 2 with Roo and 2 without. I take her to the track with me sometimes and put her in the car when she gets tired. I couldn't keep my pace though. About at mile 3.75 I got into a good pace. I think I was too tired from doing the picnic that day.

I plan to walk in the morning, but am not sure what to shoot for. Guess I'll just plan for 6 maybe and see how it goes. I have to clean the dance studio so I can't get too tired.

Great job with the training!! :thumbsup2 I'm soooo jealous that you're off to Disney. I'm currently listening to theme park background music and wishing that I was there now. Don't worry about storms. It'll still be a fabulous trip - you're going to DISNEY!! :woohoo:

Dolce you a "thread killer" :rotfl: I dont think so - altho I've had that same thought after I posted my pictures!! Since Dh is doing the Goofy - he's slated for 17 miles today :scared1: He's not looking forward to it -

Sandy, you do have the capability of walking faster than a 17 minute/mile. You just proved it! :goodvibes Try it on a treadmill: go and do, say 5? miles, and put the treadmill on a 15 minute/mile pace (since 16 minute/mile pace is Disney's cut-off limit before you're swept) and be mentally determined to do all 5 miles at that pace. I bet you that you can do it! I bet it's just a mental thing.

Good luck to your DH for those 17 miles today. I hit 16 miles in 2 weeks. I'm trying to begin mental preparation now. It won't be fun.

I think that I should repost this part:

:scared1:59 Days People :scared1:

Guys...

Today was an awesome day.

I am going to tread lightly here, because I don't want to violate any DISboard policies...but the entire church service this morning made me think of this thread.

It was about perseverance...endurance...finishing the race.

The preacher actually started the sermon on the treadmill! :rotfl2:

If any of you guys are interested...it will be available on iTunes tomorrow or via internet connection...and I can email you a link.

It was a huge encouragement to me on this journey! (And in other areas of my life, too!)

And I think it would be an encouragement to you guys, too! :)

PS: I was able to work out 3 times this week! Walked 2 miles each time! :)

8 miles done.

BUT - by mycalculations it works out to be 20 min miles... and that defeats me. I mean I know I slowed down to walk 3 times along the route... stopped twice because of rocks in my shoe...:sad2: but I truly thought I WAS on pace for 17 min miles... and hoped beyond hope that it would be 16 min - its what kept me "moving" instead of just slowing down completely to a relaxed walk pace -

and it was at a different trail - so I went to google pedometer to try and figure out a 4 miles there then 4 back - but that didnt work when dh told me the trail was flooded...

so then I went to plan B - and looked at the map once around the parking lot trail - is 1.7 miles - then there is a 1.5 mile route this way - or if I read this map right it could be 2 miles to Route 60 then I'd come back... :hippie:

So off I went - then I realized I wanted to go south not north so I turned around and after about 2 miles (I went around that drive parking lot thingy that was 1.7 miles mapped) All of a sudden a MILE POST - 20 MILES :cool1: so Now I think IF I hit mile post 23 then come back I'll be at 8 miles.... so I went confidently... MAN its a long way from mile 21 to 22...

from 22 to 23 - forget it - I'll just turn around... then I thought.. no, I set a goal dagnabbit I'm going to touch post 23.... and I did!! :cool1:

coming back was the hardest part! I kept thinking of the last 3 miles at Disney - I have a lot of training left to do!!

But I will say I'm ok... my ankles are on fire - but other than that, I'm ok...

Dolce I think You Are Right - I have to do some treadmill work next week!

I will say the day was just GORGEOUS! Last week - 7 days ago I did 5 miles, I was bundled up, winter scarf, gloves, jacket, pants, long underwear :sad2: Today? 70 degrees people!! GORGEOUS!!

After a long run - how do you recover?

My plantar fascia the pain is bringing me to tears!! My ankle at the 7 mile mark began to sear in pain -

on the radio Walgreens has a product in the feet section called "synovium" a "pain relieving gel" a gel to rub in with capsaicin and glucosomine - (I cant swallow the pill due to hyatel hernia)

this gel made my knees and ankle feel better - but :scared1: standing and even sitting - I know where the pain is! I am using a tennis ball to roll under my foot to help stretch out the tendon...

I know this is all "worth it"

Gosh, I don't knonw. My girlfriend who has it has to wear something with a bit of a heel most of the time and it helps here.

But you did EIGHT MILES!

That gets....

:dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

Guess what? DH plugged in some numbers and he thinks I can claim 9 miles :cool1: Which would bring my time down to 17 min miles - that feels better!!

Thanks for the links!! :cool1:

I'm going to run to the Y to do some strength training (the Y is 1 1/2 miles away!)

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:GO SANDY GO:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

9 miles!!!!!How incrediably awesome. :woohoo::cool1::yay:

Maroo I think you have a really cool pastor. He sounds great. way to go on three times this past week. Keep on moving girl. How is WW going?

Dolce16 miles? you'll be able to. I have every confidence in you. We have one of those CDs of theme park music. I think I am going to bring it in to work to play it. Every time I go to WDW, I do stuff at work to drive people nuts before I leave. :rotfl2: One of the perks of the job. :thumbsup2

EandEsmom Hi:wave2:

Sandy I know you said you aren't a math major..... but .......um.......I don't leave for two weeks. Not this Saturday, next Saturday.....but hey, thanks for noticing.:thumbsup2 I have my packing list printed, ADR list printed (and then split water on it:scared1:) and am starting on the girls outfits tonight. Gonna be busy the next couple of weeks.

I lost 2 pounds!!!! :) So WW is going well!

Woo Hoo!

Lisa: I do have a very cool pastor. The preacher this week was actually one of our Middle School pastors who is very good at speaking, too! :thumbsup2

Sandy: AWESOME on the 17 min miles!! You can do it! You can do it! You still have several weeks to train, too...keep going! You can do it!

Dolce: You will do GREAT for the FULL! You are prepared...you have the half under your belt and completed that even with extreme circumstances. You are going to do great!

Lauren's Mom and I have planned our March trip some...and with the PIN I got decided to stay at the POLY...but ONLY...

If we lose enough weight!

We each have a goal. Mine is 20 pounds...I have lost 2 so far. Hers is only 10 or 15, I think...she has less to lose than I do! This gives me a GREAT motivator to DO IT! No matter what...even over the holidays! It will also make it easier to do the half...not to carry around any more weight than absolutely necessary!

My schedule this week is 3 sessions of 3 miles each. And one Gym XT day. :)

Hi Sandy...

I am not a stalker....lol..although I keep finding your posts..and now your current PTR...as soon as I register next week for my first ever 1/2 marathon (Wine&Dine), will be starting my own PTR I think!

I am along for the ride...run...walk...jog....wog....;)

Hi there!

I do feel like I am stalking you! :) I saw your post on the Podcast board and followed the thread to the WISH boards and now you are here! :) Woo Hoo!

I think I have decided not to do the Wine&Dine. I would do it as a relay...but to do it alone will take forever and be very late at night or the wee hours of the morning before I even finish. I have not been able to find a relay partner, so for now it looks like I will be missing that one.

But we can hopefully continue this pre-trippie for all of the marathon related trips right up to 2011????

maroo: I guess that I'm still confused on your current plans. I know you're doing the Princess half in March (?). Did you drop the Donald in January? I know that at one point you mentioned not doing the Donald but still coming to Disney for marathon week-end to watch. Are you going to be there in Jan?

Disneybride: Hi! I'm seeing you all over the place as well. Don't worry about crashing this thread. That's what I did. Sandy has yet to kick me off. :rolleyes1

Alright, you guys. I got in my 4 miles tonight. I didn't want to. I've been pain-free for over a month now but after my 13 mile run on Saturday, suddenly my feet hurt and my knee hurts. :sad2: Nothing serious (and praying that it won't be!). But I used that along with not being able to sleep last night (so tired today and feeling blah) in order to give myself an excuse to just go home after work instead of doing my run.

I wrapped my foot and went to do my run instead of being lazy. I actually had a good 4 mile run, it was one of my better runs lately. Now, praying that Wed's 6 mile run will go as good.

Everyone has been doing awesome!!!!! :cheer2::cheer2:

I tried to get to the gym today but I'm leaving Thursday morning to goto Indiana and I had to get my leaves done. Tomorrow I have the front yard to do. :sad2: At least it was 65 here today and the same is forecast for tomorrow!:woohoo:

Everyone keep up the GREAT work!!!!!!!! :)

Ditto what Tim says!! I can't even imagine what jog/walking 8 miles would even feel like - torture, I imagine!!

Tim, can you count doing the "beer bottle curls" as a workout?? or the "bleacher climb"?

DisneyBride Hello and welcome.:goodvibes

Maroo What a great motivator. Staying at the Poly:love: I want to do that some day, of course......I want to stay at all of the some day.:thumbsup2 and.......:woohoo: on the 2 pounds. You have lost 1/10 of your goal. :goodvibes

Dolce Way to go on getting out there anyway. I am so glad your foot didn't bother you while you were running.

Tim and Leisa:wave2: I think the curls would count if they were done repetitously (sp).

I think I forgot to post that I did 6 miles on Sunday. Then I cleaned the dance studio which is 3 hours, mainly sweeping and cleaning the floors. Then I worked in the garage and attic. I lost how many times I went up and down the attic stairs carrying stuff. Then I walked for 2 hours at the Street Fair in town with DD. So, while I "only" did 6 miles, I was moving ALL day. :upsidedow

My plan for this week is to do either 4 or 6 tonight and 8 on Thursday and then 10 on Saturday. Seems daunting but I am going to try.

You know, the DIS makes it very easy to be a stalker!!:rotfl2:

Well, I am a night owl anyway...and I have been doing our Relay for Life which is an overnight walk/campout...so the next one is in May...will see how i do when I walk longer this time!!
I am going to begin my first ever PTR...lol...maybe this weekend, or after I register so then I will feel official!

I must say Sandy's posts have been so inspirational to me:goodvibes Looking forward to following her through the Donald 1/2 :)

Dolce & eyor44

Thanks for the welcome....Sandy has another follower!

I have been getting around, huh Dolce?! I loved your LONG post..lol...it was very informative and helpful...so thanks!!:worship:

maroo: :thumbsup2 cool

Sandy: CONGRATS!! on the milage today! As for your feet: check out this thread on the cool running message boards:

http://community.active.com/thread/71213/plantar-fasciitis-and-marathon-training-help/0/90

Dolce I hope your knee and foot feel better - I've actually been doing those suggestions - before getting out of bed do a lot of flex and point - flex and points then rotate the ankles around and around... instead of a golf ball tho I use a tennis ball!!

Now for my knees I tried a product advertised on the radio - you get it at Walgreens in the "feet" section (LOL) IT WORKS!! DH even tried it, and he was surprised it worked - its a gel, called "Synovium" it has capsaicin and glucosomine - it works!

(and of course the ice paks and heating pads work wonders too!!)

Thank you so much for joining us!! :goodvibes

I do find that I often post TMI!! or I go on and on... I try very hard to remember that people are reading this and NO WHINING allowed!! (by me! Venting yes!! Cheering you bet!! bored? Please post here - I'm reading!!)

and I'm not sure if you know - but I'm from the Chicago area! My dil got me to run the 10K Shamrock Shuffle one year - OMG - it was so cold - she didnt even drink her beer after the race!! :rotfl2::rotfl2: (I thought about it!!)

Maroo WOOHOO :woohoo: 2# YOU keep it up!! one day at a time - WW will help you! as well as staying on course for your mileage! Keep up the great work - and thank you for sharing - you are an inspiration!!

Lisa/eeyor :rolleyes1 Honestly I was looking at your ticker and I swear it said 8 days!! (and I figured you'd read it the NEXT day so 1 week sounded ok to post!! :rotfl2: Dh calls it my Disney math!! :rotfl2: He loves to hear me tell people how long we've been married!! :rolleyes1)

and you bet your housework counts - esp going up and down stairs!! :thumbsup2

Tim :rotfl: DH (also a Tim!) also raked leaves this weekend - the best part? DD wanted to jump in them!! 13 and she still loves raking and jumping in leaves!!

Liesa beer bottle curls??? oh - I see that's a comment on Tim's exercise!! :rotfl2:Love the work you are doing -

There is a sewing/quilting expo near here this weekend - and they have a "make it and take" it classes that I'm kinda thinking of doing.... :rolleyes1 I have a sewing machine, have fabric - and I think I have a pattern... but I just havent taken the plunge!!

Woo Hoo on your four miles!

I originally wanted to do the Donald. I was going to sign up with the Podcast team raising money for GKTW. But that team feel through...and the 1/2 was already full.

I will be around for Marathon weekend, but don't really think the 5K is worth the money to do? Am I wrong on that? Should I do it just to experience a race?

Since I can't do the January half, I am going to do the March Princess Half instead with my friend Lisa. Not to be confused with Liesa (All7ofUs).

Maroo What a great motivator. Staying at the Poly:love: I want to do that some day, of course......I want to stay at all of the some day.:thumbsup2 and.......:woohoo: on the 2 pounds. You have lost 1/10 of your goal. :goodvibes

It has been a GREAT motivator! I did so well yesterday that I had to eat something later in the evening because I had not used all of my points. :thumbsup2

I got my 3 miles in yesterday in 51:30...which is a bit over a 17 min mile pace. But it is getting better and I hope it continues to get better as I train!

The way my schedule worked out this week, I am scheduled for another 3 miles tonight. I managed to get some chaffing yesterday, so I want to make sure I can figure that out and may move today's 3 miles to the weekend (I have make up days built in to my schedule).
