Half Marathon - Train with me for Jan '11 - ...Shock - an update! 4/06! new pix

:badpc::badpc::badpc:

EandEsmom
You planted a LOT of blubs. Want to come visit? I have a bunch in the bottom of my frig that DH has yet to plant.

Please, it took me 5 years to get these in! For 5 falls I've been saying I wanted to plant bulbs (as long as we've been in the house) and every fall is so nutty it never happens. I've got scads of spring planted ones that bloom in the summer but never the early spring blooms. I finally bought them which forced the issue but nothing like waiting till the last minute to do it.

Dolce,

The important thing is you DID it! And you learned from it. It's all good.

You know, I think that All7OfUs,eandesmom, that’s nice and our other lurkers should sign up for the 2011 Donald. Maybe I’ll sign up for the 2011 Goofy and then will walk the Donald with all of you and then run the Mickey the next day. We could all have our own mini-team on top of the WISH group.

Except I don't run.....even if it is a good excuse to get me to Disney!

Though I have to admit, the wine and dine relay is a little bit attractive. Except it's a bad weekend for me.

Before I try to recruit anyone else...

Are any of you guys interested in doing the relay (I will be mostly walking) with me for the Wine and Dine half?

DH says he would do it if I wanted to!! But I just dont think its worth all that money... 10 pm start - and because I'm so darn slow - by the time I make it to the "wine and dine" part - all the good stuff will be gone!! Disney really doesnt care about the back of the line group - Blame it on the last Party of the Senses I went to! I would rather put the money into a really nice meal - or signature F&W offering (I liked what I saw at the Bluezoo or Flying fish - and I dont like Fish!! :rotfl2:)

I'm debating on going to Europe instead of Disney - or probably Seattle - Dh really wants to climb Ranier again - and DD wants to see Ranier... so that will probably be our next vacation...

Cynthia Did you know tulips and other bulbs are "annuals" NOT perenials? Seriously! It completely confuses me since I thought "by definition" an annual doesnt come back year after year! :confused3
I know it took me awhile to plant my bulbs, but after ten years, I think they need refreshing!! (after all the bulbs are annuals!! :rotfl2:)

psst - I dont run either!!

Dolce  I think the most valuable lesson you learned and shared - DO A PRACTICE Race!!

and I'm sorry you dont want to post on the thread I linked for you - because you have valuable information to share - I think there are many WISHers that have been around that when someone shares a lesson learned - you reach so many lurkers - and first timers!! (Plus I posted a cheer for you - and someone joined in!! :goodvibes WISH teamers are a great resource!) YOU are a WISH teamer!! I decided!!! (*grin) (its a very accepting group - post or not!)

Water You are right - hearing someone else yell at you to hydrate hydrate, you do second guess yourself! The one 1/2 I had a problem with they were yelling at me to hydrate - and I knew that wouldnt help!

In my first Disney Half - I made a promise to dh to take at least one knox bloc and a few sips of water - so I was getting the electrolytes - as well as a bit of water....

I know DH had a long run yesterday 16 miles - he did 7 and came home for water, and realized he needed the electrolytes - but had forgotten to prep for the long haul - he wasnt doing so well last night!!

Thanks, Sandy! That was really sweet of you to post about me over there since I'm not a WISH team member. I’ll consider posting about my experience tonight since you are correct: this is helpful info to any newbie runners and a reminder to any experienced runners. My next race I’ll only drink where I’m training to drink at (and it’s not every mile – my body doesn’t need more water that often) and I won’t be chugging down cups of water like I was yesterday. I’ll only take a couple of swallows like I do during my training runs. I’m sorry that your DH had a bad run yesterday. I feel like a dork now, going out for my long runs at my park. I’m the only person at the park ever carrying a bottle of water on me and if my miles are +7 (which each week-end, it now is) I have Cliff Shotblocks on me as well. I just suck it up and feel like a dork but I was passing by a few runners the other night and I know that they wished they had my water bottle. Yup, there was a little water bottle envy going on there… they wanted water and I had it. :rolleyes1

Dolce Has issued a Challenge!! 2011 Donald!! :cool1:

Dolce DH said you are being too hard on yourself! You had a GREAT time! (I read part of your race report to him!) You will be prepared for your Marathon!!

Glad you found a place and will be moving soon - Gosh Thanksgiving is almost upon us!!

Doing Races before the Disney Marathon is important - to get the feel of the crowds - and Yes, Dolce even with the corrals at Disney - there will be walkers in front of you! I know one walker WISH teamer is at a 11 min per mile pace! Some people will just start out slow till the crowds thin out - 36,000 is A LOT of people! Pack your patience...

I think also the whole race mindset does a number on your nerves!! AND I was wondering if you were among the New York Marathoners - dh and I watched part of that race!

I wonder what the weather will be like in Jan in Disney? Its getting so close!!

Yup – I’ve issued a challenge! :thumbsup2

To be honest: Logically I know that I’m being hard on myself but emotionally, I’m still disappointed. I wasn’t running NYC (I’m not certain that I’ll ever run NYC! Maybe I’ll surprise myself one day) I was running in Dallas. I didn’t know this until yesterday but the Dallas Running Club is the third largest running club in the United States. I wonder which two are the first – I assume the NYC running club is one of the top two. Any ideas on the other?

The woman that basically saved me during the middle of the course (the one that I ran about 3 – 4 miles with yesterday) was originally supposed to be running NYC yesterday. She and three of her friends all made NYC but only one of the four actually made it to NYC yesterday. She and the other two woman all had to bail out because of injuries. She’s deferred so she should be running NYC next year. Earlier this year she broke her foot on vacation. She wasn’t healed enough to be training for the NYC full marathon but she was able to get in enough training to do the Dallas 1/2 marathon yesterday.

I’m hoping that the weather in January will be nice for us. This winter will be colder for everyone. The longer you’re on the course, the hotter it will get. It’s nice for the early start times at Disney but I’m accustomed to training after the sun is up. My mid-week runs are right after work and my week-end long runs don’t begin until about 8 – 9:00 am… depending upon when I get my lazy self out of bed. I know that my training time and my location (Texas) will help me with the weather in FL but I’ll still have problems with any humidity. We don’t have too bad of humidity up in north Texas, although we do have some. Yesterday it got up to 61 degree with clear sky and lots of sun for the run. I found the weather to be nice. Some people whined that it was too hot. :confused3

Thank you. ... And I said walk. :teeth: If I do the Goofy next year, I'm walking the Donald. I know that a lot of people, especially on this message board, run both the Donald and the Mickey but I don't want to be that hard on my body. I would walk the Donald and run the Mickey if I do the Goofy.

maroo: I wish that I could, since I want to go to Disney next October anyways, but I can't. I can't miss any work in early October because of the big October 15th deadline.

I'm one of "those" kind of people that if I did it...I wouldn't walk. And I know me, no way I could fit in the training to do something right, especially if it isn't something I really want to do. The Wine and Dine is tempting, it is on my girls retreat weekend though. I could almost justify it otherwise. I just can't get into running no matter what though. Give me a bike ride, a kayak, a hike...

Running. Bleh.

Dolce  I've missed that you're a Texan!! :dance3: I left my heart in Texas - Grayson County to be exact!! My people are there... North of Dallas is a town called Denison - its where my maternal family comes from - back over 100 years!! In school they want to know "where" you are from - "We're from Texas" - seriously!!

(Grayson County has a historical home area - and books about the homes - my maternal family's home is there - along with the documentation of being the first settlers in the county)

Cynthia I am not a runner - never ever liked it - Disney is the draw... and of course I need to remind myself its now about my health. Just getting out and walking 30 min every day -

and the pay off is a trip to Disney!! :cool1: Of course I have to do 13.1 miles, but hey - that's just a day in the parks!! ;)

and you are getting to know 'me'!!:goodvibes

dork tho that I am!!

The only running I'll do is down a mountain after a very steep hike up! It's my favorite part.

But I'm a GREAT cheerleader...Still have the pom poms somewhere....

You guys are all doing great!

OK. I have an official time: 2:27:36 and it looks like there were at least 800 people that came in behind me.

Sandy: I know where Denison is. I've been there exactly once. Cool about being the first settlers.

That is a good time, Dolce!!! :)

Well, I did it! I am officially back on the wagon.

I only did 2 miles tonight...but my goal was to get out there and get moving!

Something cool happened while I was walking...I saw 3 deer in the front yard of one of Rachel's neighbors. I was walking in her neighborhood. It was so cool! I just froze...because I didn't want to scare them. And they turned and looked at me...like a deer caught in headlights! I have never seen a deer that close up for that long. It was so cool. Right there in their front lawn. :confused3

I walked for 40 minutes...so it was probably over 2 miles.

So...I'm back!!!

OK, I see a challenge has been issued... but I don't even know what I'm being challenged to! :lmao: Can someone tell me WHAT the Donald or Goofy even is??

I won't be back in the States until June, 2011 at the earliest; so I probably won't even start any training until then.

Did someone say wine and dine?? I certainly do enjoy entertaining the thoughts of THAT kind of activity! Cynthia, are you thinking what I"m thinking??

Dolce
I am so glad you have a move date set. Hopefully everything will be fine until then.
I finally found some Clif Bloks at Academy. I will experiment with them this weekend.

I just suck it up and feel like a dork but I was passing by a few runners the other night and I know that they wished they had my water bottle. Yup, there was a little water bottle envy going on there… they wanted water and I had it. :rotfl2: a little water bottle envy :lmao:

Sandy
Hope DH is feeling better. How is the job situation? Is he still home?

Maroo
Way to go on the walk. and seeing the deer. Wow! How is WW doing this week?
I can't decide about next October yet. But ya never know, I might show up. I like walking at night better than in the day time. Don't have to deal with the sun at night.

I like the challenge that Dolce issued for next year. Walking, walking is good. I am not a runner and never will be. Wish I could, but there are those of us who can (Dolce and Sandy's DH) and those of us who can't even walk on concrete barefoot without tripping (me).

Yesterday was my rest day and while I didn't walk at the track, I didn't "rest" either. Worked, took DD to dance and went shopping. The stores were great last night. Since the Saints (I live near New Orleans) were on Monday Night Football and are doing good right now, the stores were empty. I love children, but being able to shop without screaming kids around was absolutely wonderful. :cloud9: At Target there was maybe 1/2 dozen other customers that I saw. It was great.

My brother called Sunday to say that he is not going to make the 1/2 in January after all. He was going to walk the 5K with me and then watch me in the 1/2. :sad1: Would have been nice to have him there. So Sandy, that is one less for dinner on Saturday.

Guess I better get to work now. :upsidedow

I would walk the Donald and run the Mickey if I do the Goofy.

Where, oh where, is the tag fairly when you need them!

That is a tag if I have ever heard one.

Things you would ONLY hear on the DIS.

I am lost on that, too. I have been trying to figure it out from these...

I know the Goofy is someone that does the half and the full. I think the Mickey is the full. So I am thinking the Donald is the half? or maybe it is the 5K.

Come join us! June is plenty of time to start training for October of 2011. And I would relay with ya - so it would just be about 6.5 miles each. :thumbsup2 And then we could Wine and Dine. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

eyor: I'm sorry that your brother won't be doing the 1/2 with you after all. I know that must be disappointing. I'm glad that he's doing the 5k with you and will watch you do the 1/2.

I hope that you like the Cliff Shot blocks. I think those were what saved me on Sunday after I took in too much water. It was after I'd completed all of the pack that I finally began to feel somewhat normal. I had to stop off at the running store last night (already time for new shoes!) and the girl there said that I probably washed out all of my electrolytes. I don’t know enough about this stuff yet, but I do know that I drank too much water and I do know that the more Cliff blocks I had in me, the better I started to feel.

 I basically had to beg the TF for what I have. I was on a Tag Fairy thread (Two?) Christmas's ago. I actually like my tags.
I’m quite content thank-you very much. :snooty:

:teeth:

Tonight I have to get in 6 miles. My last two runs have been horrid! I'm trying to keep positive that tonight's run will be good.... but I'm so scared that it won't be. :sad2:

I will never get a tag. I don't think the tag fairly likes me very much. :goodvibes

In fact the thread fairy even removed a whole thread I posted yesterday. Still waiting to hear the results of the review of the thread. :confused3

Have faith...I think your runs are going to get back into shape. I am sure your body is taking a little bit to get over the run on Saturday. Hang in there! It may take a little bit for your body to get back in its rhythm.

Hey all....
I've been MIA on this thread since the weekend. Just trying to get all caught up.

I will never get a tag. I don't think the tag fairly likes me very much. :goodvibes

Wow I've been issued a challenge. What's the Donald? I'm assuming that is the 1/2.:confused3

Sandy Congrats on you training. I liked your pictures, especially the one with your toe showing!!!! LOL!!! (even your B&W ones!)

Dolce Congrats on finishing your 1/2. It took guts and a lot of will to continue on when your stomach was telling you not to. I'm sorry to hear about all the drama with the management company.:sad2:

eeyor Great job with all your training!

Maroo Get on that wagon... wait a min... get off and start running!!

Leisa You are going to start running too? Marathons are in your future?

ooooo.. is our maroo a little troublemaker on the DIS? popcorn::

:goodvibes

OK. I didn't get in my six miles today. I got in 6 1/2 miles instead. I found a new place to run for my weekly runs now that the time has changed. If I were to go to my usual place, it'd be completely dark before I even arrived. I didn't want to run alone in a dark and isolated place. At this new place I was able to get in half of my run before the sun went down.

.... and there were a couple of hot guys out. :teeth:

Where's Sandy today?

I was wondering the same thing. can't wait to see what it was about..........popcorn::

agreed!
