Hakuna Matata: Official thread Part deux

Good morning all!!! Well finally got a walk in last night only 3K but felt good to just get out there. I know the calender says it is spring but it is still definatley winter here so it was a bit cold but we survived.

Will be getting out for another walk tonight, before we head to walmart to get the 600 pictures from our cruise developed....they are going to hate us there tonight. I will try and post a few but I am a total computer idiot so I might just have to put them in photobucket and list the link.

Dave, tell Erica I am very proud of her, I seen a post of hers on another thread stating that she has last 2 dress sizes....that is amazing for her!!!!! Also so sorry to hear about all the health issues she has had.:grouphug:

Connie, I have been out of the loop for too long, what did you do to your hip???

Dawnie: Last year I did a 1/2 at the end of Sept, a 13K at disney end of Oct and then the 1/2 again in Disney in Jan and I found it OK, worst part was trying to train in the winter. This year I will be doing a 1/2 or full end of Sept and ...the plan right now is the full at disney in Jan....I think it will be OK, but I am by no means a expert, we only started doing any races coming up a year. Just listen to your own body.

Bummer, got to get back to work.

Kim

Good morning team! Happy Spring! Now if the weather will realize that it is spring:lmao:

It was REALLY windy yesterday, so only got 1.25 miles in outside with the dogs, then did some sprints on the the TM for another 1.25 miles. Not a very good day for me. Today, I need to wait for a landscaper to show up around 9am for an estimate, so I will probably miss the morning calm again (the wind usually starts up between 9 and noon, but has been picking up earlier the past few days). Today is really a cross training day anyway, so I should be doing weights and pilates tape. I am trying to taper off a bit from the walks to prepare for our half marathon on the 30th.

Denise - hope your neck recovers quickly.

Kim - Welcome back!

Connie - good for you on the bike!

Dave - take care of Erica for us!

Many years ago, I learned by trial and error that my migraines were caused by alcohol, I quit drinking and no more headaches! The few I get now are usually caused by dehydration - I seem to need alot more water than most to keep the headaches at bay, but it is an easy preventative.

Have a good day!

Lynn, of course I'll take care of my pretty princess, I take our bond of love most seriously. She enjoys her pampering, but she contributes her share of love and caring.

Connie, great news on being able to bike, you will be logging the miles now, it's good for your overall fitness level to. I wish I could get motivated to get on mine, maybe when the weather is better. I have a bike I had built for tri racing in the desert gathering cobwebs in the garage. I had it refurbished a couple of years ago and never did ride it.

Denise I asked Erica about her headaches and she said there really wasn't a fix they just stopped.

Kim and Mike, I think the whole team would rather you did the marathon with us instead of going on a cruise without us.:rotfl2: , we need to plan a team cruise for the future.

Margie, hang in there girl spring is here, it'll catch up with you soon.

Donna, now you will be getting into your hot season, becarefull out in that heat princess.

Cindy, how are doing?

I got a PM from Wilber, (Sue) Life for her is nuts but she will check in before the month is over and catch up.

Everyone I missed, love y'all, be strong and happy today.

I went to the gym today and did some more base training. 4 miles alternating between 4.0 and 4.5 speed. Then my hour of stretching and cals.

Funny I'm getting stiffer right now, can't figure that out. But I guess that my body is just adjusting to the new demands on it with the stretching. I am walking totally pain free though. The only real concern right now is the groin muscle soreness.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Thanks, :hippie: but we have another Winter Storm Warning!

CONGRATULATIONS, Erica...that is totally awesome ... 2 dress sizes! princess: When is your surgery scheduled?

Went to the gym tonight...did my workout and 10 miles on the bike. I was glad to hear the trainer say I was doing everything correctly. I like being able to get some Cross Training miles in on the bike too.

I've been MIA for a little while so I'll start with a big hello!! :yay: I had a pretty good run today except it was actually a walk. I gave myself permission to just walk the whole time since I missed my earlier day to run. It was rather nice and I still got in my 3 miles. Wrapped it all up with 15 minutes on the stationary bike.

My DS is having his birthday party/sleep over (except they don't sleep) tomorrow night. He actually turned 12 on the 10th so he's been waiting for this. Between the air soft gun war and the Guitar Hero battles I'll be hiding in my bedroom...:scared1:  It's time like this when I REALLY MISS my DH!!

Kristen, if I didn't live so far away I would send my DH and my 2 DS's (22 & 17) to help out! We have had so many air soft gun wars AND Guitar Hero battles at my house. I actually like Guitar Hero but those air soft guns...they leave welts and WHAT A MESS! I swear that the people who end up living in our house years from now will still be finding little plastic green balls. :lmao:

Connie, I have been out of the loop for too long, what did you do to your hip???

Actually, this hip is an ongoing problem that I have battling for years. But sometime last year, while trying to train; it locked down. I had no rotation in my hip...at all. Even my foot pointed outward when I walkd. I had been going to the chiropractor and nothing was changing so I went to a D.O. He got things moving again. I was amazed at how much easier it was to walk when my hip rotated properly. I have to be careful though, and stretch, stretch, stretch. I wonder how much better I could have done the ToT, if my hip worked right! :confused3

I tried the bike again last night. I stretched so hard that I am sore from stretching. But my hip was hurting. It is loosening up a little all the time. I don't know whether to keep trying the bike and keep stretching or just to let it go.... I want to be able to go for bike rides with my grandchildren! If anyone has some good advise on this, PLEASE share!

At this point, I have pretty much scratched duathlons and triathlons off my list of things I want to try.

About to hit the road for 5 miles. I gotta get it in before the dang wind blows up and blows me away!

BTW, So glad to have Kim and Mike back again!!! :woohoo:

Connie: Wow, that must have been a bit scary when your hip locked down. So many out our every day movements we take for granet because the body just moves but when something goes out, it is hard to get things moving again. I wish you lot of pixie dust for a full recovery.

Thanks for the welcome back......it is just like coming home!!!!

I will PM you our mileage tonight after we go for a walk. It is Fridays right:confused3

Oh how I wish you were closer!!! Glad to know there are others that do this for "fun" too! I'm loving Guitar Hero -- maybe we should petition to count that towards our exercise time...I really get into it! :hippie:

Have a blessed Easter weekend! He is risen!!

Kristen

P.S. I've PM'ed my miles/times.

Spring...we have a Winter Storm Watch until 8:am Saturday. My area has 8-inches plus of wet heavy snow...the driveway was cleaned about 7:PM, but you sure can't tell it now!

Connie, I PM'd the miles & time for Erica & I. :cheer2:

Wishing Everyone the Blessings of Easter!

Hi Team.

Oh it feels good to be home from work. It's especially tough when it's beautiful spring day out and I'm trapped inside. I have really wanted to have some good outside walks and knowing it's perfect out is rough. It doesn't get pretty till about the time I have to get ready to go, the mornings are still chilly and dark. Hopefully this week it will change.

I got in my miles on the tready this morning and some good stretching. I really worked on the achillies tendons. I'm going to cure this tendonitis for good. It doesn't bother me at all now when I walk just sore for a bit after stretching.

I sure wish our insurance would pay for massage therapy. It will cover a little of the cost of a ciropractor and physical therapy but not massages. Darn. When Erica and I stopped trying to be runners we had several massages and trips to the Ciropractors. We both had problems resulting from tight ITBs and calves.

I guess not to many people are concerned about the 16 min per mile pace at the ToT. That's to bad because it's going to restrict a lot of beginners from trying it. Well I tried to get it changed, thanks everyone who supported the thread. Last year I did that request and we had a lot of response and they changed it to 18 min per mile. When a lot of us speak out against something they usually listen.

Sounds like everyone is doing good. Connie I never realized your hip was bothering you at ToT, you were going along great.

Everyone happy Easter weekend. Don't eat to many chocolate bunnies.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Good evening team, I did not get a chance to post this morning, I will be PM'ing my and Scott's miles to Connie shortly, and I have donated some more to Erica.

Have a good Easter weekend!

Erica is really greatfull to you guys for letting her stay on the team. When she can walk again without pain I'm sure she will be ready with a vengence to get in her steps. She reminds me of the Rocky movies. When the time is finally right she trains like she is a champion.

She walks me into the ground the distance is really long. I get her on the short ones though.

Lynn, are you and Scott doing the ToT?

Sleepy Panda:hippie:

Yes Dave we will be doing hte TOT, I am having a sleepless night. Staying at BWV, if we can book the rest of our stay at the 7 month window. We did register yesterday for the TOT. Will go to the time thread and provide support.

Good morning all!!!!

Dave, what is this about donating miles to Erica??? Sorry I just PM'd connie mine and Mikes mileage but I am willnig to donate miles as well.....what are we doing???

We are finally not getting any more snow....we still have enough but our temps are really cold.

Can not wait for spring!!!!!!!!

Have a super Easter Weekend all!!!!

:surfweb: Good Morning Hakunan Matata's...

Sorry I haven't posted much this week. In fact, let me extend a double apology for the decrease of mileage lately. We all have to manage our precious time the best we can, so where I do promise each of you on our wonderful team my contribution, it may be a little on the lower scale for the next six-seven weeks.

For everyone that is struggling with various injuries and recoveries, please take it easy and don't pressure your body to do too much too soon.

I guess I better go on the ToT site and see how much the 13K is this year. If I am forced to purchase a park ticket along with the registration fee, I may bow out due to finances. That's not to say that I can't drive up and meet everyone for an early lunch :scratchin!

Take care everyone, and have a great Easter :flower1: (I luv the yellow peeps!), along with a fantastic week!

Kim, if you want to donate miles to Erica, just let me know when you PM me how many! I mark her down for those.

Dave, my hip was actually locked down for nearly a year. I am going to make an appointment with my D.O. and have him work it back in shape. I guess this means that it will be a very long time before I bike again. darn it. I will talk to him about it. Maybe, I can gently ease myself into good bike rides.

Today is my day off. I will catch up on housework and nurse my sore hip.

Everybody have a great weekend!

Good morning team.

Kim, Erica's left bunion is bothering her a lot and keeping her from being able to get any miles in. She goes into surgery for both feet on the 11th of next month, then will be off recovering for 4 meeks.

The team has offered to go and extra mile or 2 for her each week so we can keep her on the team roster till she recovers and can kick some ashphalt again. When you go out to do 4 miles just do an occassional 5 miles instead. Just let Seffwalks know when you went an extra mile for Erica.

When anyone on the team is injured we can go an extra mile for them so they will not leave because they think they are hurting the team by not contributing any miles.

Donna, just having your sweet self around is way better than extra miles. In answer to your question though you don't have to buy the park pass now, we fought that and they did away with that requirement. Now if we can just get them to relax the pace requirement.

Scott and Lynn, I'm glad you guys are going, Erica and I are really looking forward to hanging out with you wonderfull friends again.:yay:

Margie, I can't wait till January when we can finally meet you.

DianeL, will you and your little buddy be doing the ToT with your hotel uniforms again? That was awesome cute.:)

I just did an hour of stretching and calistetics this morning since I was pressed for time.

Everyone have a wonderfull weekend.

Hakuna Matata Panda:hippie:

Me Too, Dave...I am so excited. After communicating with you and Erica for a couple of years ... I will finally get to meet you guys! :goodvibes

Looking forward to meeting you, DianeL in a couple of weeks. :cool1:

Connie, take care of that hip! :flower3:

After 13-inches of heavy wet snow - we have sunshine and 36 degrees this afternoon. It is beautiful walking weather but no safe place to walk! :sad2:

Cleaned drive for an hour and a half this morning, went to the gym to do my routine, and 10.2 miles on the bike. Then off to the grocery store...Oh, my gosh due to the storm, I think everyone waited to do their shopping until this afternoon. (including me)

Now, I know the Hakuna Matata team is so laid back that I suspect them of popping happy pills, so in honor of the Easter Holiday I offer you this alternative, the happy-candy pill Pez:
