Hakuna Matata: Official thread Part deux

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Lisa - we were talking to Scott's sister in Atlanta yesterday, and it sounds like the tornado badly damaged both the park and the center for the ING marathon. Have you heard anything about how it will affect the 1/2 marathon?

Roads are snow covered (unusual for here, usually the wind blows the snow away!), but the dogs have not been out for a walk for 2 days now, so I guess I will have to brave the snow for at least a short walk today. It will also be a slow walk. It is supposed to warm up later in the week, so I will have to make up for lost miles then.

Have a good day team!

Happy Monday and Happy St. Patrick's Day team!! It's another chilly day in Toronto so I will be doing my walk and my run indoors. Some days it feels like it's never going to warm up and the snow will never melt. I guess at least it's sunny so I can put on my sunglasses, grab a frozen yogurt and pretend that it's warm

Take care of those knees ladies! I had problems with my left knee for a little while. I've been seeing a chiropractor who does ART and it's made a world of difference! Of course now I seem to be starting up with shin problems ... the fun never stops when you're running :goodvibes

Dave - I had a similar pain behind my left knee too. Do you know what it's from? I thought maybe not stretching enough but it seems to have gone away. What kind of crunchy foods are you missing? Maybe you could take them and make a smoothie :) J/K

Thanks for the well wishes for my knee--decided to try an easy walk on the TM just to see how it was feeling. I got to a "max" speed of 4.1 before the pain started:sad2: So, I hopped off and did a little work on the recumbent bike.

Dave--was thinking ITB but the pain is really localized under the knee cap. I would classify it as "runner's knee" but I really haven't been training hard enough to warrant it. I do like the idea of extra pampering and a massage, though.

Totals for today 40 min gym time (tm, bike and ab work) 4.35 miles

Years ago I went to a doctor because my knees hurt, and he diagnosed it as runners knee - but I had never done anything athletic at that point in my life, so I do not think activity is necessary for runner's knees. They do not bother me too much if I can keep my weight below 150, whenever I get over that, they start to hurt.

Yesterday turned out to be a nicer day than I thought it would be. Started out on our walk, and ended up going 5 miles. I stayed to the paved roads as the dirt roads were really muddy, that restricts my options and my milage. It has dried up a bit, so today, if I can get out before the wind starts, I should get my 6 miles in.

Have a good day team!

Lynn I bet those pups are ready for a walk. You thought about a sled since you have a team already. You could harness up Scott and he could get in a good workout also.

I did a nice 4 miler on the treadbeast and then an hour of stretching and cals.

When I was on the tready I was alternating walking lsps of 4.0 and 4.5 speed. I decided afte a couple of miles to bump it to 12 mpm so I set the speed at 6.0. The 12 mpm pace seemed much tougher than it usually does but I finished up the quarter and then when I put the speed back to 4.0 I realized that 12 mpm was 5.0. Oops.

Achillies is still behaving and groin muscle is still a little sore but not affecting my walking.

Eating is better and better. As long as I cut things up and nothing crunchy, no we ain't putting crunchy stuff in a blender. Connie already suggested I have a beer and pizza smoothie.

Have an awesome day team mates.

Happy Panda:hippie:

Awwwwe, c'mon Hungry, Hungry Panda, what can be all that bad about a pizza/beer smoothy! A real time saver, I should think! :lmao:

Today was a really off day for me. I should have done some miles but it was raining and I had a headache and I have more excuses if you want to hear them.....You don't? Okay, fine. I don't blame you. :upsidedow (In my very best southern Scarlett O'hara drawl) Tomorrow is another, day! I will get them in!

Pixie Dust to Lisa and Stephanie! Take care of yourselves. You are the only YOUS we have!

Great Workout Panda! Not sure I could go with Connie's menu

It was freezing rain last night - then rained here all day, Connie so I can totally relate. Hope your headache is better too.

Lisa and Stephanie hope the knees are better!

Did some errands, picked up a few things for the Easter Baskets, then stopped at the gym on the way home. I was really tired but I did 10 miles on the bike, some stretching, and my reps on both the thigh machines. As always I felt better when I was done. Then did my 10-minutes of Flexibility Pilate's.

I am ready to call it a day! :upsidedow

Sounds like you had a full day little princess. You have so much on your plate right now with family and weather it's a wonder you haven't gone screaming into the night. Hang in there spring is coming and Rodney will recover.

Good Morning Team:flower3:

Please welcome Kim and Mike back to the team. They have been off having an adventure and are now back with us. Welcome back dear friends.

I went to the gym for tready fun since we are having intense rain. I took it easy today, 4 miles at a 15 mpm pace, then my stretching. 2 hours total.

Our team is the best team, I put this team together not because of it's awesome athletic ability but because of it's heart and potential. I've known some of you a long time and know how much heart and courage there is here. I also know that several of your are on the edge of discovering just how special an athlete you can be. From the wonderfull novel "Call of the wild": "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog that matters".

Good morning team!

Yesterday was very windy, but I got my 6 miles in. It was blowing at 19mph when I left, and 28mph when I got back, with a maximum gust of 36mph while I was walking! At least it was sunny and dry and not too cold! Today should be the same, I will again try to get out before the wind really starts to blow! We had a SCUBA class last night, so I got my weights in by loading tanks and gear!

Scott has gotten some TM work in this week, but he has already worked 24 hours in 2 days! Today he is on the road, so it will probably be another long day for him.

Have a good day!

Thanks Dave for getting us back on a team.

Just to confirm, I PM mileage to Connie??? Sorry I can't remember what I am suppose to do:headache:

We are back and better then ever!!!!!!

Kim

Hi Kim!

Yup you PM with mileage. Our week now runs from Saturday to Friday! Glad to have you back!

I am still trying to get some mileage in. I am just having a rough time of it right now. I wonder why??? I will come out of this....soon, I hope!

Erica has lost two dress sizes!!! You go, girl! Makes those lovely hospital gown cover more, more easily! Just because a hospital has semi-private rooms, why must they have semi-private gowns?? And then, make you walk in the not-so private hallways??? :confused3

Y'all work hard!

The mailman brought me presents today. :cool1: After reading on here that "Marathons for Mortals" was a good beginning book, I went on to Amazon and ordered it. Then to get my free shipping I had to buy something else, so I got Enchanted too! I was a good girl too, and as much as I just wanted to start watching Enchanted, I started reading the book insted. ;)

So after reading half and glancing through the rest, I have a question for the experts, you guys! I really like the idea of following a specific training plan like it shows in the book. I think I would do better with some stucture to keep me in line! My ultimate goal is to do the Disney full marathon in January. I was thinking about doing a half sometime this summer as a warm up. The book suggests 14 week plans for the half and 20 week plans for the full. There is a local half marathon here, but it is Sept 7th which is only 17 weeks before the Disney one.

So my questions are first, is this too short of a time in between the two ...and second, am I crazy for even thinking of trying to do a half AND a full, since until this last January I had not even thought of doing any race???

Well, let's see Dawnie.....

I think that would be cutting it really, really close. You will be sore and tired and worn out and probably a little depressed after the half. Can you find something more in-between. Even a 10K or 15K instead of a half to let you get the feel for racing and training??

After my first 1/2, which was also my first race, I could barely walk the next day or the one after that .....and it took me a while to want to train again. I have heard that most people have that kind of reaction, so please take that into consideration.

That's my personal experience. Anyone else?

yes able to get in some TM time and some weights, Was in Grand Jury most of the afternoon, about 3 hours, drains me I should get credit, LOL. Now to wait for the other guys to get done and then drive 200 miles home.

Need to get in a long run in the week. Maybe tomorrow if the weather cooperates.

Actually had in 26 hours by the close of business yesterday, today will be late.

At work they asked us to sign up for the Presidents Phy Fitness programs, man you get credit for home improvement work, lawn work, SCUBA diving, snow shoveling, kinda KEWL.

Gotta get a 6 mile or better in this weekend.

HAPPY SPRING

Yea, it's spring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you had a full day little princess. You have so much on your plate right now with family and weather it's a wonder you haven't gone screaming into the night. Hang in there spring is coming and Rodney will recover.

Thanks, Friendly Panda! :hippie:
You are a wonderful encourager. :goodvibes

trying to catch up with all your antics this week.

Spring is here, it will be in New Hampshire in about 6 weeks but we can dream. Sun is up longer so that's a blessing.

Went to a new dr for my neck he injected something in my shoulder to release the muscle a bit which it did but the injection site is now very sore. At least I can turn my head again, it cracks but what's a little noise?

Haven't got much walking in but between my headache and my MIL things are a bit messed up at home. 3 weeks of a headache will do that to you. I start PT tomorrow so that should help. Going for X-rays today to make sure all the joints are where they should be and they are not worse than before. He wants me off the drugs eventually - that would be nice.

So, hopefully, I get a few miles in tonight for the team. Doing a lot of stretching so I'll add that too.

Miss playing with my DIS friends here. Have a great Thursday, it's payday for us, Whoo Hoo, I get to pay bills.

Denise I'm sure glad your back with us I missed your courage and you cute wit.

Yes payday does mean pay everyone else.

Erica with through several years of progressively worse migrains and has finally gotten through it and just has a minor one occassionally now. Not sure what the fix was, seems like it was sort of a kind of unexpected treatment though I'll have to ask her.

The poor dear has had a time of it with, heart problems, hips, knees and bunion problems as well as headaches and being married to me.

I'm off to the gym to walk on the tready since it's horridly chilly and damp out this morning.

Walking Panda:hippie:

I haven't been able/willing to go for a walk. I don't know why. :confused3 We have a recumbent bike, but I have been fearful of riding it since my hip locked, but I got on it last night and logged 12.7 miles! And the best part, my hip was pained but after a good round of stretching I worked the pain out and my hip is fine. So, I am going to add bike riding back into my workout! Look out miles and teams with triathletes, I am coming after y'all!!! :goodvibes

Okay, I am off to do my shopping for the week. The biggest part of my bill is produce. Since we have our own meat.....I have had check out people ask If I am a vegetarian! :rotfl: I think that meat has it's place....right next to the peas and the mashed potatoes!
