Hakuna Matata - Movin' on to March

Good Morning Team!

Dave - More Pixie Dust for your cold! Shirts sound good.

Tandy - Good job on eating and exercise!

Mike - Hope Liz feels better soon, and your legs get over recovery mode soon.

Eva - No ceremony on Maiden Voyage, the ceremonies were all ready done - the christening etc. I am sure Scott will post photos on FB. Only fireworks will be for Pirate Night.

AFM - Beautiful day yesterday, we did get out for short bike ride - 8.5 miles, a bit windy but tolerable, I am still working on getting my high altitude conditioning back. Short walk with dogs. We did taxes this morning and are getting a refund!!!! (Now that Scott is retired, we are bringing in a lot less) They still want us to pay quarterly next year, but much less than this year. Cold with some snow today, no bike ride but will still try to get dogs out for walk.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Wow! You guys have been busy posting this morning! Be sure to send some prayers and pixiedust: Rick and Christi's way when you can. They had a bit of an emergency.

Lynn - Oh I think I've had a melktart at Boma. And speaking of Boma ... I should pull out your bobotie recipe sometime and make that. I haven't had that in a looong time. Yay on the refund! Is that going to go toward a trip? Good job on the 8.5 mile bike ride!

Tandy - Aww sorry to hear about Harrison :( Is he going to be sidelined for a long time? I hope it won't affect your 10K race. Sending you pixiedust: for a quick recovery!

WTG on all the exercising and clean eating! I slipped a bit last night and ordered a pizza - but it had grilled chicken and lean ham and was made with a WW crust LOL I had a lot of errands and packing to do for my class tonight so it was pizza or a protein shake. I ran 3.5 miles so I'm hoping the pizza and mileage cancel each other out!

What kind of lifting are you doing? Are you going heavy?

Dave - Can't wait to see pictures of the shirts! They sound awesome! WTG on the 10 miler this morning, especially with the last 3 miles in the wind! Hope your cold goes away soon!

Eva - Awww! Thanks! That would be awesome! I have a Pinterest account but have never used it myself. I sent you a PM on FB about my flight in August. Coffee would be awesome! Sounds like you have warm weather where you are too. It's about 53F in Toronto today (too bad I'm stuck in my office).

Mike - I'm only stopping for the rare characters... you know Scrooge McDuck, the White Rabbit, Jeff Galloway :rolleyes1  As much as I like characters like Buzz Lightyear or Winnie the Pooh... I can see them in the parks. If I'm going Goofy, I'm thinking of going a bit slower on the half 2:30-2:45 and then going at a steadier pace for the full. Mostly because I HATE that stretch on Osceola Pkwy - you know, the section of road after you exit AK. There's too much sun and it's b-o-r-i-n-g.

Lots of pixiedust: for Liz! Hope she feels better soon!

Sue - Yes, I'll be over at GB. I'm hoping I won't have to stay too late tonight. Everyone I know is working or inside today so it almost feels like a bit of a wasted day. Hopefully the weekend will be warm and sunny as well. When is March Break? We should go for lunch sometime before or after.

AFM - I went for a run on the TM last night rather. I did 3.5 miles in 35 minutes. I wanted to go out but I was on a bit of a tight schedule. I had errands to run and I had to pack my tools for my class tonight. I slipped a bit on my clean eating - I ordered a pizza because I knew I would be rushing around  But it had grilled chicken, low fat ham and a whole wheat crust AND I only ate 2.5 slices. I put the rest of it into the freezer and will save it for a day when I'm running a longer distance.

And then I got a text from my trainer this morning that we're going to do another reassessment this weekend. Oh great! Figures. Especially after I ate pizza  I told him I'd probably do well on the exercises but not to expect too much for the measurements :cutie:

Happy Wednesday Team!

Vicky, Looks like it will be spring skiing next week for March Break. Lake Placid is expecting temps in the 50's. Have fun at class.
Did I miss an update on the DB racing? How is that going?
I will send you a note to schedule lunch. Chipotle?

Lynn, DH has just returned from the Denver area. 2 things he commented on were the dryness and altitude. After being away how long does it take to get back to normal.

Tandy, We are going to Lake Placid next week. Can't wait. Spending the weekend touring the Olympic venues (ski jumping, bobsled etc.) Hoping to do the Bobsled Experience. They take you down the bobsled run with an experienced driver & brakeman.
PD to Harrison. Glad to hear you are eating healthy and feeling good.

Eva, The cadance meter is an addon for the Garmin. I have the 305.
It's really helping with the bike training.
I keep forgetting to google Pinterest. It's blocked from work so I can't check it out.

Dave, Hope you feel better soon.

Run 5 last night. It's nice to see daylight staying a little longer. Got the whole run in and the dog walked in daylight.:thumbsup2

Have a great evening..........Sue

Hey guys!

Rubato - so far so good on the plan. I've done 6.5, 3.5, 3.5. I'm doing another 6.5 tomorrow and 3.5 on friday so I'm in line with what I was hoping. how is zumba? I've never done it but heard good things.

Bunnyfoo - my fave cooking blogs are Stolen Moments Cooking, once a month cooking, the sisters cafe, cook with sara, cookies and cups, skinnytaste and slow cooker from scratch. and great job on your 3.5!

thanks Lynn - the pix are amazing!

great job dave with the 10 miles!

happy hump day all!

Good morning guys. This is my rest day from training since I work the day shift and don't care for evening training. I like to get the miles in early while my energy level is the highest.

I'm going to make a resolution to myself that I will stretch more. I've gotten some better, I stretch a couple of days a week now but I need to do at least 5 days a week.

Hope everyone has an awesome day.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning team!!!!!

Rick: How is Christi doing today???

Sorry I never seem to get on here much, between texting and FB'g with most of you I never remember where I left off when I get here :confused3

Dave: WTG on stretching more, I am also getting better at it but only cause I have no choice my IT seems better when I do stretch but haven't pushed any long distances since disney so time will tell

Vicky: Blog??? What blog how did I miss that. Anymore thoughts on flying? Do we wait to see if there is a further sale? Mike also would prefer I fly he was worried about us driving all that way.

Lynn: You and Scott should write a book of all your adventures.

Tandy: WTG on eatting clean, I have been playing with that but it is hard.

Eva: Hi how are you? Are you planning on marathon weekend 2013?

Mike: How is Liz feeling? I am also in for Dopey next year, I figure it is a good time and alrealy did goofy so gotta step it up:rolleyes1right:scared1:

Hi to everyone I missed have a super day and watch out for solar flares:scared:

Christi is a bit more comfortable now that they have gotten her pain management under control. Now they need to determine what the treatment plan is going to be (if they are going to do any procedures or just let the pancreas rest so the inflammation will go down). She is finally getting some sleep (when she isn't watching old episodes of M.A.S.H. on the TV. :)

Thanks for all the PD and well wishes. I pass them all to her and she is very appreciative.

AFM: I got in a quick 3.3 mile run yesterday. The weather was amazing, though very windy, so I really wanted (and needed) an outdoor run. It felt good to be moving and to clear my head for a short time. With everything going on, I might not get in another run until my 12-miler on Saturday. :sad2:

I also need to get a 1 mile run in with my DS this weekend. He overslept this morning and I had to drive him to school. I told him if he overslept tomorrow, he would have to run the 2.25 miles to school. :rotfl2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - In a way, refund will be going to a trip, it will just help us pay our bills, some of which are incurred by travel!

Dave - Keep up the stretching!

Kim - Hi!

Rick - PD for Christi! Glad you were able to get outside for a run!

Kimberly - I’ll tell Scott you liked the pictures.

Sue - Yes, it is very dry here, as well as high. It takes we 3 days to lose the altitude conditioning, and about a week to get it back. It is really nice to see the days getting longer!

AFM - Cold yesterday, did get out for dog walk, and some time on spin bike. I am trying to get some weight work in, my problem being that the knees start to hurt before muscles are fatigued - still trying to work that out. Scott made “koeksisters” for breakfast this morning, so need to keep the eating cleaner for the rest of the day. It is getting warmer again, and wind is predicted to be light (10-20mph) for the next few days, so I am hoping for some more outside bike rides.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team!

Lynn - Sounds like a yummy breakfast! Aside from the shape and the final glazing, are koeksisters similar to beignets? We have warm weather here for the morning but then it's suppose to cool down a lot for the evening. Hope you're able to get out for some bike rides!

Rick - I  when I read the part about you making DS run the 2.25 miles to school. Sounds like something my parents would have made me to do. I know some people who have kids that make it a habit of sleeping in so they'll get a lift to school. I'll have to mention your idea to them :thumbsup2

Glad to hear that Christi is able to get some rest. Still sending you lots of pixiedust:

Dave - Ooh stretching is something that I need to do more of as well. Sounds like today is good for a rest day - maybe spending an evening with Sally! Say hi for me :wave2:

Kimberley - Did you run 6.5 miles this morning? I think your dedication to getting those miles in is awesome! :thumbsup2 I will have to check out those blogs on my break. Some of my favourites are Sweet Pea's Kitchen and Healthful Pursuit. They're both very different LOL

Kim - I'm good with flying! Let me know what times you want to leave and come back and I'll book. I'm 99% sure there will be more discount codes but I'm ok booking right now if you want. I'll text you at lunch and we can talk more about it :goodvibes

The blog is a s-l-o-w work in progress! I'm working on a recipe for you actually! I just have to get around to making it this weekend! We need more three day weekends

Dopey huh? You are hardcore :)

Sue - I've given up on the DB'ing :sad2: I couldn't get to sleep afterward and it was affecting my running on the weekend. I also wasn't happy with their workouts because I felt like the coaches did a lot of outdated exercise routines like situps and they weren't supervising people properly either.

Safe travels next week! I can't wait to hear about the bobsledding! That sounds awesome!

You know I'm in for Chipotle! I :lovestruc Chipotle!!

Tandy - How's Harrison's PF doing? Hope he's better :)

AFM - I went to my class last night and we ended up making a pie out of phyllo and a pie dough for next week. The class was so hectic that I didn't even have a chance to see what we're going to be using the pie dough for next week. The phyllo dough pie looks really pretty once you decorate it with icing sugar but I didn't get home until after 11PM so I left it in the box. Hopefully I'll be able to take some pictures of it tonight. We're in a different lab/kitchen and it has a lot of gas stoves so it gets HOT! I was dying by the end of class.

Here's a small world story... in the class, each station has four people (two teams of two). One my station, it turns out that one of the girls works in the same company as I do. That's actually not that rare because my company is fairly big. What's interesting is ... she works on the same floor as I do - I'm on the west side of the floor and she's on the east!! I said it was funny that we've never bumped into each other in the elevators or bathrooms. Even though she wasn't my partner, she ended up helping me make my dough

I'm going out for dinner tonight so I'll do my speed work after my training session tomorrow. Not too much planned for this weekend - maybe a bit more baking and working on the blog. Hopefully I'll have that going by Friday :) Fingers crossed!

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Vivky - That phyllo pie sounds amazing!! I really cannot wait for your blog! That's crazy about that girl in your class! Nice that you will have a new work friend too!

Kim - I am not planning on anything for 2013. If we are lucky I will big and pregnant by then. :cloud9: And you are doing DOPEY?!?! :woohoo:

Sue - I think I have a 305 so I should look into one. I really don't care for cycling (shhh...don't tell Scott and Lynn). I mean, I do like the extra calorie burn and I enjoy it in a way...but I really LOVE running. Jordan loves his bike though...he has found a nitch in the fitness world :thumbsup2

Rick - I have been thinking about Christi...please tell her that she is in my prayers for a fast and speedy recovery. Good that she is resting.

RadioFanatic - Are you on pinterist? I have found sooo many great recipes on there.

Tandy - Sorry to hear about Harrison's PF. My dad gets that and I know it is really painful. I think I had the beginnings of it once or twice, but nips it in the bud. Hopefully with the boot it heals fast. How is Zumba? I have been thinking of doing one at my rec center.

Dave - You will have to post pics of your new shirt!!

Okay guys...I know I am a dummy, but what does AFM stand for??

Eva: You're not a dummy. I didn't know at first either. It stands for As For Me.
Zumba is wonderful. But, only if you like to dance, don't mind looking like a fool at first, and love to burn calories. :thumbsup2 I hope you get your wish and can't run next year due to pregnancy! That would be wonderful. :)

Rick: I'm not on FB, but from what I'm hearing, you and your wife were in an accident? I hope she's ok. I'll be praying for her. Love the idea of running to school. Harrison and I walk to school all the time, but it's only 1 mile. He would be thrilled at this point if he only had to run one mile.

Vicky: How funny that you and your coworker are in the same class and group. Love it. I love phyllo dough and am making a pot pie this weekend with it. I will very patiently wait for your blog. I wish I had the time to do something, but I just don't. How did the measuring go?

Lynn: What type of work are you trying to do with the weights? Can you modify things to be sitting during some of the lifting?

Kim: I'm impressed with your Dopey goals. Should be great. Why not keep pushing the challenge, right?

Dave: Stretching is so overlooked, but so important. I have to do about 5 minutes of stretches after a run now. Something about working out 3 or 4 injuries makes it a necessity.

Kimberely: Great job on keeping on schedule! You're doing great. Like I told Eva, zumba is great. I love it. But, I love to dance. It's a great calorie burn. A friend of mine wears one of those calorie burned monitor things and it always reads between 700-850 for the hour we do zumba. Not bad at all!

Sue: Have fun next week. I would love to see Lake Placid. Maybe some day. We keep talking about taking a trip up north, but will need about 3 or 4 weeks to see everything we want.

AFM: I had a hard day at school today, so I didn't get a run in. Then, we went out to Chinese buffet for dinner. But, I did really good. One plate of food and no fried stuff. I had a beer, but think one per week will be okay.

Harrison's heel is feeling better. I'm hoping he can run in a few days, but we'll see. I am planning on running every day this week since it's spring break!!!!! I also want to get 2 or 3 zumba classes in. I have lost a total of 5 pounds so far, but will need to reevaluate my goal, because I don't think I'm quitting at 10 now. I'm thinking of adding another 5 on, but focusing on fat loss.

I am so glad I get a week and a half off. I have 3 big projects to work on, but can take things at a slower pace. I hope to have heard about the nursing program within a couple of weeks, but I'm no longer stressing about it. If it's meant to be, it will be.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Rick: I'm not on FB, but from what I'm hearing, you and your wife were in an accident? I hope she's ok. I'll be praying for her. Love the idea of running to school. Harrison and I walk to school all the time, but it's only 1 mile. He would be thrilled at this point if he only had to run one mile

No, we weren't in an accident. Christi has attacks of pancreatitis which is quite painful. She has lived with this for the past 11 years and while the attacks require a lot fewer hospitalizations, they still can get bad enough to warrant a hospital stay. All because of a birth defect in her pancreas. Not fun at all. :sad2:

Thanks for your prayers. I hope she can come home this weekend. Today, while I was visiting her, she was talking to her nurse who turns out is a runner too and runs 3 Halfs each year in Indianapolis. We might be running the same race there in November. Small world...

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Koeksister dough is much heavier than beignets, it is closer to a cake donut than beignets.

Eva - That’s OK, not everyone can like everything - just remember cycling when your knees give out and you cannot run any more! Glad Jordan is enjoying the bike. AFM stands for “as for me”, I know, all those acronyms confuse me also.

Tandy - We have a bowflex (an older model), and I do leg extensions, leg pushes and the one that I cannot remember name of that bends knees up behind (working hamstring maybe). They are all exercises I did with a Physical Therapist after knee surgery. Occasionally do some squats with a ball at my back against a wall. I don’t do much upper body, but do push ups and planks - they are not an issue. I try to do pilates tapes for core exercises. Saw on TV this morning that 1 beer or 1.5 glasses of wine a day for women decreases chance for heart disease.

Rick - More PD for Christi, hope she can come home soon!

AFM - Fairly nice out yesterday, got out for dog walk, then spent 1 hour on spin bike - first time since trip I made it more than 30 min. It is supposed to be nice next few days, hoping for some outside bike riding.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

:bday: :cake: :cake: :bday:

party: Happy Birthday Mike!! party:

:bday:

Hope you're having an awesome day!!

Mike: Happy Birthday! Hope it's a great one!
Hey, I just realized that we're the same age. I'll be 42 in less than a month. Funny how you have a kindergartener and I have a teenager.

Lynn: Yes, when I heard that about beer and wine, I figured I'm set for having a healthy heart!;)
It sounds like you've got a good routine and know your limitations. That's great. I have a Bowflex too and I love it. It's got the ability to work everything and I have a routine planned out to do the least amount of switching possible. Harrison uses it once in awhile also.

Rick: Thank you for clearing that up. I hope she is feeling better soon and gets to come home this weekend. Not a fun thing to deal with at all.

AFM: I've gotten a little homework done already and trying to get up the energy to go run. I hope to do 4 today, but we'll see. It's chillier today than it's been in the past, so that is hurting my enthusiasm. Frank told me again today that as soon as Harrison graduates, we REALLY need to move to Florida. I need to start doing research on hospitals down there and figure out where I can get a job. He wants to move to Cape Coral and of course, I want to be closer to Disney. :lmao: But, being in Florida is a lot closer than being in Kansas, right?

Happy Birthday Mike!

Rick - your poor wife - hope she feels better soon!

Rubato and Bunnyfoo -thanks for the kudos - got in my 6.5 yesterday and 3.5 today for a total of 23.5 - I run mostly M-F and the key to keeping my schedule is literally being the first thing I do when I get up in the morning at 4:55 am. If I don't do it then, it doesn't get done! the stars have to align, i.e. alarm going off like it should and my 4 year old not getting up, but it works 90% of hte time!

I've wanted to try zumba - but no classes at 5 am! big shock, I know!

villian rock - i would love to be on pinterest but doesn't someone have to recommend me?

Have a great weekend all!

Good morning team.

I didn't realize I hadn't posted for a couple of days. It's been hectic with fighting off this cold, training and working. It's been a good week training wise even with the cold, I had a great 10 miler and yesterday's time trial was 4 miles race walking in 43:06, only three seconds off my best time for the year. I should be ready to crack 42 min soon.

Rick that's rough, hope your lady has a better time of it this year.

Mike is 42? I wouldn't have believed that, are we talking about Kim's hubby or Mike Rice? I thought Mike Rice was like 25.

Vicky, you should have your own healthy cooking show.

Lynn, how are your knees doing?

Tandy, yes stretching is needed for me also, I have cronicly tight calves.

Ok time to get off the computer and start getting ready for work. Hope everyones say is magical and filled with beauty and wonder.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - Knees are hanging in there, sometimes they hurt, sometimes they are fine - generally better if I keep up the cycling.

Tandy - Warmer weather should be heading in your direction, it was warm here yesterday, should be even warmer today! Scott’s folks in central MO keep calling and asking about our weather so they know what they are getting LOL.

Mike - Happy Belated Birthday! Hope you had a great day!

Kimberly - 4:55 is really early!!!!!

AFM - Got in a 13 mile bike ride yesterday - it again was great to get outside! Looking forward to next couple of days which should be warm with mild wind.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

I am having a lazy morning! I never have those! Must be a sign of the upcoming 'end of the world'... :lmao:

It is supposed to be 48F at Noon today, so I am going out for my 12-mile Long Run then. Going to take a neighborhood route I have never run before instead of the prairie trail just to make it interesting. I will run by my church so maybe I will stop by the priest's house to get water and a blessing. :goodvibes

I just checked the mileage on my shoes. I am going to need new ones by the end of this month. I might look at the Saucony Triumphs. It has a lower heel drop than my Pro Ride 4s and a bit more cushioning which might be beneficial for the marathon distance.

Definitely going to consult my running store folks about it. I want my next shoe to be the one I run in for the Chicago Marathon. That way, I can train in them all summer and then 'break in' a new pair around September in plenty of time for the race.

No news on Christi. Still waiting on test results. I am not very good at waiting... :headache:

Have a great weekend everyone!

Good morning team.

Rick: I'm needing new shoes too, but hate to break the news to Frank. He just doesn't get why they cost so much.:lmao: I read the article on you that you had linked to your blog. It was very inspirational. I knew you'd lost a lot of weight, but seeing the whole journey with pictures is pretty amazing. You should be so proud of your accomplishment!

Lynn: Thanks for the warm weather! 70 degrees today! :cool1: I do the same thing with my mom in Denver. She's in exact line with us here in KC, so whatever she's got today, I'll get tomorrow.

Dave: Great time on that 4 miles. You'll break that with no problem when you're back to 100%! Yes, tight calves are my issue too. So much so that I tore the stupid thing!

Kimberely: Great job getting everything in. There is no way I could get all my exercising in on weekdays only. I like getting it done early too. Last summer, I had to be on campus early for a 6:30 am class, so I got up at 4:30 every morning. Everyone thought I was crazy, but I'd rather run at 4:30 than in the afternoon, if I can help it. Of course, in the winter, I'd rather run late because it's warmer.

AFM: I've taken the dog for 4 miles and am going to go for a run later. I'm figuring 3 or 4 today and aiming for hills. I got my 4 in yesterday, but it was slow. My lungs are still burning from being sick, so there's no way I'm going to see anything faster than an 8:30 until I'm well. I'd like to get back to my old speeds, but who knows?

Harrison is feeling better. We're going to try for his long run tomorrow, but he may not make it if his heel starts hurting again.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.
