Hakuna Matata - April...and we're not foolin' around!

How's your piriformis feeling today? Have you tried a foam roller or (eek!) a tennis ball? I hate using a tennis ball but have found it to be more focused on getting to the afffected area. Of course the massage sounds much better! Good luck on getting your taxes done!

It is much better today. I have been using my foam roller (ouch!) on it a lot as well as doing some stretches that my masseuse showed me a while back that work pretty well. My 6-mile walk yesterday also seemed to help loosen it up as well. Tonight I am going into the gym for a TM run followed by some time in the Jacuzzi. (I am only running in the gym so that I can hit the Jacuzzi afterwards! :rotfl:) My massage is all set for next Tuesday -- perfect timing in preparation for my races on the 27th and 28th.

Taxes are all done thank goodness! Now I have the funds to pay for that massage and Marathon Weekend! :thumbsup2

Lynn - Thanks! So far I think I need all the luck I can get in trying Yoga out!

Rick - Okay, now I know where the piriformis is. I keep learning all about muscles now that I've been running. I'm hoping that by starting in on Yoga that I can get loosened up and get better at running :)

Vicky - I looked into Yoga classes around here and ... WOHA! It's a lot of cash to put down! That's why I bought the DVD (Yoga For Beginners : The Essential Beginner Yoga Guide For Runners, Walkers & Desk Jockeys).

AFM - It was such a wonderful evening, I decided to go ahead and try a run outside. Wow! It went VERY well. The only thing I really worked on was keeping my arms moving. Whenever I'd start to notice I was slowing down a lot, I'd concentrate on keeping my arms going.

I did a 1/4 mile Walk and 3/4 mile jog routine tonight that went over my overpass. My first 3/4 mile segment I clocked in at 13:50 min. mile pace!! I even verified with my HR watch that this was indeed correct. I've no idea where that came from, as I really didn't feel like I was going that fast! Here I was thinking when I started that I was going to take it easy tonight!

Congrats on the 'turbo boost'! Keping those arms at 90 degrees and moving makes a big diffference. Your legs copy what your arms are doing so if the arms aren't moving, the legs' pace will slow. If those arms are moving, then legs have to keep the pace.

Hey all! I hope everyone is doing well. I've been absent the last two weeks from the boards and missed you guys. I need to catch up to say the least. Last week I went to my hometown to see family - my annual trip. It was nice running in a different setting - ran a 4 mile and a 10 mile in prep for my 1/2 next weekend. Boy, i forgot how hilly my hometown is!

This week, I've ran but only bc I had to, not bc I wanted to. I really have no motivation and just generally feel blah with the stuff going on in my life that may make it so that i can't go to disney for the full marathon in january. that and some other stuff are just really getting me down. I was hoping the running would make me feel better, but honestly I just want to sleep. I'm hoping my 1/2 next weekend will give me back my mojo but I would love to hear stories of others in a similar situation and how you got out of it. This is only my second half after the one at disney this past january but I think I'm ready. also, when is the last day I can sign up for the disney full with the discount?

I will catch up, I promise and thanks for being here!

Good luck on your race this weekend Robbie! Hope your flu is gone and you're feeling 100% again! Get out there and burn some asphalt!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - The Canadian Chokecherries we have would be considered ornamental, they have really nice flowers early in the season, but no edible fruits. They are one of the trees recommended to plant here in our climate. The leaves bud out green but turn to a dark red later in the season and stay that color until winter. (If they did provide fruit, I would make jam or fruit butter out of them!) I am still looking for a donut pan also, I did not think it would be so hard to find. I was not even limiting myself to mini-donuts.

Rick - Good job getting taxes done!

Kimberly - Keep up the exercise, it will make you feel better in the long run! Maybe try something else, biking, swimming, hiking for a change up. Double dose of pixiedust: to help you pull yourself out of this funk!

Robbie - Good Luck on your race tomorrow!

Kipp - Good job on the run!

AFM - Still did not get dogs out for walk, really windy, and got caught up with projects again. I did get in 45 min on spin bike. Today is house cleaning and tree watering day. It is supposed to be a nice weekend, and Scott will be home tonight, so, hopefully, we will get out for some good bike rides. I may even get out today if I get my chores done early.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good luck Robbie - but even more important, have fun! and thanks Lynn for the pep talk!:thumbsup2

Hi team! Happy Friday!

Lynn - I found both sizes of donut pans on the King Arthur Flour site. They charge a lot of money to ship to Canada but I think they have reasonable rates in the US. I will keep looking and try to find one locally.

Glad to hear you're going to get nice weather this weekend. Our forecast is calling for rain and cool temps. I don't like the rain much but think that the trees and grass need it because we've hardly had any April showers.

Kimberley - Would you be able to adjust your trip so that you're just going to WDW for the weekend or even solo? Would that help at all? You still have a ton of time between now and January - things change all the time and hopefully whatever's going on will sort itself out.

I know how you feel running when you have to. Sometimes I just try to change up my routine and maybe go for a walk instead or use the bike at the gym and get in equivalent miles. Focus on your race and how great you'll feel crossing the finish line! And then sometimes some good ole TLC is what you need - go for a massage or a pedi :)

Rick - I didn't know that about keeping your arms and legs moving at a similar speed. Glad to hear your taxes are done!

Kipp - Yoga classes here are about $20/class on average. You can get some kind of unlimited pass but you really have to go more than twice a week before it's worth it. Sounds like you had a great run!

AFM - I did a run outside last night but I felt like I had zero to no energy for it. It was slow as a result. I'm wondering if I was tired from Oh well. Maybe my LR on Saturday will go better :)

I'm heading off to meet Sue for lunch! Hope everyone is having a great day :wave2:

Well despite all my worrying about the gap in my training due to the flu, I PR'ed my half marathon today!

I finished at 1:50:17, which beats my previous time by 1:41. Really happy with the results, but a small part of me is kicking myself I couldn't go a measly 18 seconds faster to get under 1:50:00 lol.

Will post a race report in a few days

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I have not exhausted all the locally yet for the donut pan, I know I have seen them, at least the regular size ones, so I know they exist here. We also really need rain, but I do enjoy the warm sunny weather, especially when the wind calms down!

Kimberly - No problem Kimberly, hope you are feeling better!

Robbie - Congrats on your PR!

AFM - We did finally get out for a bike ride, not too long, just over 10 miles, with wind blowing (wind meter said 12 - 19 mph when we got home, but a couple of gusts blew my bike over a bit, so I think there may have been gusts a bit higher). Today looks nice also, can’t wait to get out again.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Hi Team.

Hope everyone is fit and sassy. I had a bit of a scare with my left calf and achillies Saturday but the soreness finally worked it's way out after lots of stretching, ice and massage. I'm still going to take it easy this week though.

I have the Indy half coming up in two weeks, can't afford to sit with an injury. I'm planning on being strong for that event since it will be my last half for a while. I'm getting into my regular racing season after that which is lots of 3Ks, 2 milers and 5Ks.

I registered for the 2013 Marathon, I will not be doing the Goofy again till 2015. I got in on a special for having the Disney credit card, it's $144 with the active fees. After sept the full goes to $190 plus active fee.

Have an restful evening y'all.

Hello team!

Vicky - I haven't been to dance class in over a month now, but hopefully I'll have time soon to pick it back up.

Robbie - Congrats on your PR!

Lynn - Glad you had a good cruise!

Sue - I like quinoa for breakfast. I also had it the first time at AKL at Boma breakfast. I liked it so much, I figured out how to make it at home.

AFM - I went for runs on Friday and Sunday. It's been really hot here the last several days, so Friday's run was awful becuase of the heat. It wasn't as hot today, but my ankle was hurting so ended up mostly walking. Hopefully, my runs this week will be better.

Didn't do much this weekend, just laying low after a busy week at work.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Emily

Good Morning Team!

Dave - Take care of your calf and achilles!

Emily - Take care of your ankle!

AFM - Got out for another bike ride yesterday, wind died down about 4:30, so headed out then, got in 10 miles. Dogs got their walk. Warm here, will cool down later in the week. It is supposed to be 70 here for the next few days, then drop to 50 by Friday!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Monday team! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Saturday was overcast and chilly, which actually worked out well for my LR. Better than hot and humid but a bit of sun would have been nice.

Lots of races coming up in May! How's everyone feeling?

Lynn - I think you're Wyomming weather has been sent our way. It's been pretty windy and now the forecast is calling for snow!:scared1: You can send your pups over here, they'll love the extra snow days! Glad to hear that your getting warm weather though! Get out there for all us who are going to be snowed in :)

Emily - Lots of pixiedust: for your ankle! One trick my chiro taught me was to run a single piece of sports tape from your inside ankle bone, underneath your foot and to the outside of your ankle bone. That helps to make sure you're keeping your ankle straight during your runs.

Robbie - Congrats on a fantastic PR for your half! That's an amazing time! I know how worried you were because you had the flu recently. Can't wait to read your RR! I guess your next half goal will be a sub 1:50.

Dave - Congrats on registering for Mickey! I'll get you added to the calendar. If you give me the name of your race in Indy, I can get that up as well.

Kimberley - Did you get out for a run on the weekend? How are you feeling?

Eva - How's your recovery coming along?

Kipp - How's your back? Did you go running this weekend?

AFM - It was a bit of a busy weekend for me! I got out and did an 11 miler on Saturday. Actually it turned out to be an 11.42 miler because I miscalculated my route and then my Garmin was full and stopped recording. So my PSA for the day is to remember to occasionally delete your older runs from your watch. I just assumed as soon as the watch downloaded to the computer, they were deleted but I guess it's not the case. I also got out for a 5.5 miler yesterday. My half is on May 6th - so next weekend I was planning on doing a taper run of 10K and 5K.

I'm going to train at the gym tonight and get some treatments done on my knee with my chiro this week so hopefully I'll be in better shape to run the half.

This weekend, I managed to get four blog posts done. Phew! I felt like I was in the kitchen all weekend. And if I wasn't cooking, then I was photographing or writing. I'll post them over the course of this week and next. I even have a few healthy recipes ;) But I posted a pretty good dessert called chocolate peanut pie.

Hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

Hi Team! Happy Monday!

Lynn- I’m glad you found your dogs after they escaped! Glad your lilacs seem to be doing ok so far!! Nice to hear you were able to make it out for a few bike rides.

Robbie- Yes they were the dreaded side stitches. Great job on your race last weekend and your PR!!! That is awesome!!!

Rick- Great job on your race!

Vicky- I like my shoes. I don’t want to return them. I think it was just getting used to a completely different shoe than my foot is used to wearing. I have continued to wear them and I’m not having that issue anymore so I’m just chalking it up to adjusting to them. Glad your runs this weekend went well.

Elizabeth- Congrats on registering for the Tower of Terror run!!! If we were on the east coast I would definitely have signed up!

Dave- Glad you and Sally are doing well!

Kipp- Glad your run went well! Great job!

Kimberly- Good luck on your half this weekend. Keep at it and it will get better. When I am feeling down, stressed, or worried about something, I try to remind myself of all the positive things I have in my life and everything I am grateful for. It helps pull me out of my self sorrow and negative thoughts. I also remind myself not to stress about the things I cannot change and tell myself that one way or the other things will work out. I say it again to myself every time I notice my mind having a negative thought. And I remind myself of how lucky I am to have all those things I am grateful for. It helps to put it into perspective when I stop to think that many people have things going on that I consider to be much worse than what I may have going on in that moment. Hope that helps.

Emily- I hope your runs this week go better for you.

AFM, I made it through my 16 mile run last week on the TM. DH was working and couldn’t leave the station so the TM it was. We watched Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 while we ran to help pass the time. Although it only lasted 2 hours so we had to restart it again. Note to self: next time doing a long distance on the TM, bring 2 movies! Yesterday I had a shorter 13 mile run and it went well. The weekend here was beautiful. We had sunshine and it was in the low 60’s. I may have enjoyed my run a little too much yesterday though as DH and I are both a little sunburned today. We had great runs this weekend though. We ran 3 miles on Saturday and 2 dogs jumped out of an open van door out of nowhere and came running after our dog barking like crazy when we were running. They didn't stop chasing our dog until she finally stopped and turned around to them. And they continued barking until we had turned the corner and out of their view. Everyone walking around the area just stopped and stared. The owners of the dogs were, of course, nowhere to be found. I'm glad the dogs did not try to attack my dog or it would have gotten ugly. Just one more LR this weekend and then I taper for the Portland RnR half. I hope everyone else had a great weekend!

Hi all

If anyone is interested, I wrote a race report on my blog

Hope everyone is doing well, will catch up later in the week

Robbie

Good morning team.

Sally and I are going to go to Disney for a week of relaxing and fun the third week of Sept. Anyone else going to be visiting the mouse about that time?

Today is one of my 2 long days at work so no training today. I'm still trying to get back to normal anyway so another rest day is probably a good idea. I'm still having issues with my achillies and calf, it's better but not 100%.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Dave... Ken and I will just miss you. We are coming down at the end of September for the ToT race.
Regina... Wow! 16 miles on the TM! I don't think I could do it. Of course, there is no TV in the room with my TM, so all I can do is listen to podcasts to pass the time. I've been trying to think of movies that last close to 3 hours, but haven't come up with any yet. If I do, I'll post them here for you. ;)
AFM... Ken and I just got back from visiting our DD in CO. No time for running while we were there, but we did get out for some walks with her dogs a few times. Went back to the gym yesterday morning. Ran 2 miles on the indoor track, then worked out with the weights some. Thinking about getting in an early morning walk today.

Hope all of you are well!

In case you haven't seen it yet, Goofy is now 52% full. So if anyone's on the fence about registering, start thinking about which race you want to do. I'm sure it will be a couple of weeks before it fills up but you never know ;)
