Hakuna Matada - Jumpin' into June!

Hi, all,

Regina: No real diet plan other than to increase my exercise time and decrease my calories. I signed up for loseit.com as Vicky suggested. I like the site but they are having a few issues so I haven't gotten to post my activity yet. However, it has already showed me that my food intake is too high to lose weight: I already knew that but it helps to see it in black and white! I hope you continue to feel better and that you don't suffer any long-term issues from the accident.

Kim: Glad to read that your DS is okay. Sounds like he remained calm and lessened the impact as much as he could. As for the weight loss: I'm wanting to lose it before the marathon weekend too. It's great to know that you are working on this at the same time!

Rick: Hope you got back to sleep!

Vicky: Pixie dust for that knee! Please take me off of the race list for this weekend. My knee is still bothering me too much to participate.

Dave: Thanks for posting the link;I plan to check it out today.

AFM: Regina has a point, I should probably call my doc since the knee isn't better. I plan to swim tonight since that doesn't cause discomfort.

Enjoy the day!

Good morning team.

Very pleasent walk this morning, 4 total miles, first two miles average 13:30 to warm up and then the last to 11:26 average. This was on a rolling course of small hills and humid as a steam room. I was tired after so went home and took a nap before I have to get ready for work.

I need to get another long walk in soon. My weekly 6.8 miles with the group is good but I need to start getting in some 10 milers. Got a Goofy in 6 months so need to be fit and hard by then. I'm turning 60 in Oct so I want this Goofy to be awesome in all ways.

Hi Team,

Kim- Thanks! I am so glad your son is also ok and you were able to go see the scene. A coworker of mine was hit in a car accident this morning and the driver that hit her was going even faster than the driver who hit me. They think she may have been texting and driving. So what’s the difference between the two aqua classes?

Vicky- Thanks! I’ll check out the website. I don’t think it would help to post it on the board here because the area I am in is not very populated and I’m guessing anyone that answers will be several hours from me. I am going to ask my coworkers though. I’ve heard there may be a couple good ones here. Thanks for the recipe! Are you going to splurge for a massage to help with your neck motion? I’m glad you cut your run short since you were feeling knee pain. Sounds like it was a good idea!

Elizabeth- Thanks! I’m glad you signed up for loseit.com. Let us know how you like it. I read in one of my magazines several months ago (I think it was Women’s Health? but don’t quote me on that) that having a plan to achieve a goal is more effective in getting you there because you have a direction and it helps you follow through. I think they said it also helps with motivation. Good luck!! I hope they’re able to find out why your knee isn’t better and what you can do to get it feeling good again.

Dave- Good luck on getting your long walks in! Congrats on all the great walks you’ve had the last few days.

AFM, I was supposed to run today, but neck and back are acting up and I don’t want to push it, so we’ll see how I’m feeling tomorrow. I get the day off tomorrow which I’m looking forward to! It’s actually a furlough day, but I am not going to complain over having a day off, even if it is unpaid and forced. :) I hope you all have a wonderful Friday.

Has anyone heard anything about WISH hat orders?

After the excitement of the fire alarm (turns out a gas line was broken by a faling tree outside the building), I got a little more sleep and then it was time to get the day rolling

I got in a short 2.5 mile run outside (only had 25 minutes available) which was very welcome (and no rain). Then the rest of the day was filled with stairs -- it seemed like I spent most of the day on my feet.

The day was long but exciting! I will enjoy getting a good rest tonight. Tomorrow is a SRD. I can't wait for my long run on Saturday because this place has beautiful green forest grounds and a running path that follows a lake!

BuffyFoo: that recipe sounds great! I am going to give it a try when I get back home!

Good Morning Team!!!!!! Yaaaaa it is Friday!!!!!

Vicky: Yikes on the knee, hope it doesn't interfer with your LR this weekend. I always do my ressies online, going through the disney que takes forever and since it isn't a 1-800 number anymore I just do it online.

Dave: WTG on all your trainning. YOu know you will rock out the goofy!!!!

Regina: Sorry to hear about your sore back and neck defiantley listen to your body!!!

Rick: Gas leak scarey stuff.

AFM: Rainned so much last night I swear there was a man outside my house building a ark. It was crazy. I am glad I live on a hill we don't appear to have any flooding issues here.

Good morning Team.

I wasn't financially able to attend the National Senior Olympics this time around, even though I qualified again. I plan to give it another go in 2013 when it's in Cleveland Ohio. I do have a race walking student going and I'm hoping he will do well. He has the 1500 meters today I think and the 5K tomorrow.

Kimmer, the rain has been endless this year. We are dry here today but the forcast is for chance of storms for the next week.

I'm headed out for a 4 miler before work. It's a humid morning so I should have a time of it. The temps aren't bad in the morning but the humidity is killer.

Dave:hippie:

Training walk this morning was one of those rare perfect efforts. 4 miles on rolling hills in 47:29:54, just a squeak under 12 min miles for the whole effort and that included the slower first warm up mile. Maybe it was the sun finally shinning and the clear skies, or maybe I really am getting better. Grrrrrrr!!

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Good luck Mary and Ken!! Can't wait to hear about your race!!

Mike - Do you have a race this weekend?

June
25 - Colon Screening for Life 5K, Evansville, IN - Mary & Ken

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - We sure are getting out riding a lot since Scott retired! Pixie Dust to you for your neck!

Rick - Don’t you just love those middle of the night fire alarms?!!! Stairs can be really good for you - we used to use them all the time before we had knee problems - now we just do them occasionally.

Dave - Great pace on your walk! Scott is doing the Wyoming Senior Olympics - 2 cycling events - 20 mile road race and 5K time trial.

Regina - Taiya’s foot came up bleeding after a walk, she could have cut it on a piece of glass along the road or a sharp rock. We do not intend to go biking in storms, that one kind of snuck up on us. Kayaking was fun! Glad your back is better, and more Pixie Dust for a rapid complete recovery! I know what you are saying about relocating then having to find Doctors - we went thru the same thing a few years ago when we moved to Cheyenne. Have a good day off today!

Mary - Good luck on your race this weekend!

Elizabeth - Hope your knee feels better - we find cycling good for the knees!

Kim - Glad to hear your son was OK!

AFM - Yesterday was a very busy day for us, we started with a 20 mile bike ride, then we rode to Sierra Trading Post who had a Bike to Work Week special - a $10 gift certificate to anyone who showed up at the store on their bikes - that was another 13 miles round trip. Last night we went down to Ft. Collins for a Tapas Ride - as a group we started at a bike shop, rode to 4 different restaurants and ate and drank at each one! The additional milage was only about 5, and we sure added in the calorie category, but it was a lot of fun. We started at 5PM and finished at 10PM, the last stop a chocolate bar - huge desserts! We got home at 11PM.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday, everyone!

I finished the first day of my diet by going over the allotted calories for the day. A quick dinner on the run pushed me way over. I need to increase my activity level to keep that from happening again.

I have a doc appointment next Tuesday for my knee. Until then, it will be all swimming and perhaps a bit of cycling as Lynn suggested.

Good luck to all weekend racers, pixie dust to Vicky and Regina, and to everyone else, stay dry and cool!

Finished the race in what is a good time for me, 44:30. Ken finished in 33:00. Weather was nice. A little warm but there was a breeze. Because it was the Colon Cancer 5K, I thought of Mike often during the race. So thankful that you were able to beat this terrible disease.

Going out to dinner tonight at the Bonefish Grill with friends. Now, it's off to the shower!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! Today would have been perfect for a long run, cool and overcast ... but I had to head downtown for a few appointments so I did my 3.5 miler instead. Last night I slept with an ice pack on my knee and it seemed to help with the stiff feeling. I think I might have to go and look for a pair of shoes that's more supportive than the Asics DS - I think that was part of the problem in the first place. They're great for short runs but not so much on longer runs....

Mary - Congrats to you and Ken on your 5K times! That's awesome!! I hope the race was able to raise a lot of money! Enjoy your dinner tonight :)

Elizabeth - I always allow myself one "cheat" day a week when I'm on a diet. It's very hard to be 100% perfect all the time. I know for myself, I deprive myself of one thing for too long, I will eventually binge on it at some point. Don't be too hard on yourself, just say you'll burn it off with an extra 30 minutes of brisk walking or something like that :) I hope the doctor is able to figure out what's wrong with your knee

Kim - Are you ordering any WISH shirts?

AFM - Tomorrow I've got an 18K run. I'd love to say I'm looking forward to it but I'm really not  I think I should be able to eat whatever I want and just have it my body burn it off without the extra workouts! Ha! I can only wish...

Have a great weekend everyone! :wave2:

Good Afternoon Team!

Vicky - My orthopod liked the Ascis Kayanos that I was wearing, it is in the supportive line. According to my Garmin, I burned 2050 calories in my ride today - I think I’ll have dessert tonight!! Good luck on your 18K tomorrow.

AFM - Taiya went back to the vet yesterday after she chewed off her bandage and took out all her stitches! Vet said it was healing fine, and to just leave it and let her lick it all she wanted (stitches were supposed to come out next Friday). Today, Scott and I did the local “Tour de Prairie” ride, you can ride any distance up to 100 miles, I was going for 40 and he was going for 50. We ended up with 43.34 and 51.7. I did have a flat on the way back (it is straight out one road then back on same route), and was stopped at one of the rest stations changing my tube when Scott rode by and stopped to help me. (The service truck showed up just a little later, so I would have been in good shape anyway). We rode together the last 10 miles. We got a pancake breakfast before the start of the ride, and a hamburger lunch after the race (as part of the ride registration). It was a very nice ride, we both really enjoyed it!

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Well interesting weekend for us, i had to work both days and very busy at the store. Last night when Sally and I came home from supper there was a horse in the neighbors yard. Well not being horse savy I didn't think anything of it, we do live in the country after all and it was just nibbling on the neighbor's lawn. Sally instantly realized this wasn't a good thing. So she went and got a rope and helped the young girl who's family owned the horse get it home. The people shooting fireworks had spooked it and it ran away from it's pasture that was over in the next block. Turned out that there were a couple of horses from different farms that had been spooked and ran off. So Sally who was onced married to a cowboy was a big help to get the horse issue resolved.

We got up this morning and did an hour walk together in the Mall since it was raining once again. I have to get out early in the morning and walk since I work from 9am till 9pm tomorrow. The next two days are like that. I have to get my hours in before thursday when I go in for dental work and then two days of recovery from that.

Lynn, you and Scott are doing awesome on the bikes. When do you guys usually go to WDW? I'd love to pal around with you guys again and let you get to know my Sally.

Have a great weekend y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Dave - we always go the end of October (for Scott's birthday and Food and Wine festival) - usually for at least a week up to 2 weeks. Other times are around other trips we may have planned, but always the end of Oct.

Yesterday was a rest day for us after the long ride on Sat. We did take the kayaks out on to the city lake, and enjoyed that for awhile, and did get the lawn mowed. Today, Scott is out changing the tires on my road bike - I got heavier tires after the flats I have had lately - luckily only one on the road, but more than I would like - then we will head out for a bike ride - cooler today but getting hot the rest of the week.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Monday team! Don't forget if you want to order a WISH shirt, Mel is taking orders. Here's the thread with the info: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2747225

I was thinking if anyone had any links they wanted to share - training plans, cross training, stretching, etc. I could post them alongside Dave's walking link on the front page. Just let me know!

Lynn - When you get a flat on your bike, is it easy stop your bike and pull over to the side of the road? Glad to hear there's help available during the rides. But what would have happened if you got a flat after the service truck passed by?

Dave - Good thing Sally knew about the horses! I wouldn't have known any different either. What kind of work are you having done at the dentist? Hope it's nothing serious pixiedust:

Elizabeth - How's your knee doing?

Kim - Any luck with the calf tightness?

AFM - I did my 18K yesterday. I used MapMyRun.com and I miscalculated my route by a half mile. So I ran around my block a couple of times  I really didn't want to go out yesterday though - I slept in and when I woke up, I was hoping it would be hot and sunny out. Luckily it was was "cool" and overcast so I had no excuse. I felt like packing it in at the 5 mile mark but knew I wouldn't feel good about coming back and saying that I only ran 5 miles when I should have done 11. I took a nap afterward and woke up with a nasty headache - I didn't think to drink enough water I think. Knee and ankle seemed to hold up ok though. I have training tonight and then I think I'm going to go home and relax after that.

Anyone ever have a gooey butter cake before? I want to try and make one this week. Never had one so I'm not sure what it's suppose to taste like.

Hi Everyone!

All caught up reading everyone's posts..

Mary~ Thanks for thinking of me while you were racing! The end of this month will mark one and a half years since my surgery. Can't wait to see you both in sunny CA.

Regina~ I hope that your back heals well and you find a good chiro.

Kim~ I'm so glad to hear that your DS was not hurt!

Dave~ Ride'm cowboy! Was the horse's name Bullseye?

Elizabeth~ PD for your knee, let us know what the doc says!

Rick~ Sounds like you had a fun (but tiring) time at the conference. Glad you are back safe!

Lynn~ The kind of retirement that you and Scott are living is exactly the one I want! Being very active and having fun doing it! :thumbsup2

Vicky~ Nope, no races for me this weekend. I'm saving money to buy new shoes, and concentrating on actually training! Hope your knee is better soon!

AFM~ Two weekends ago, Liz and I got a LSR of ten miles in on a cool and cloudy day. This past Saturday, we got in fifteen miles, which is the second longest run that I have ever done. We run a mile and walk a minute. Then we came home and did yard work. UG! Sunday we did about a two mile walk with Robert, over to a local grocery store to get some cold sodas. Today I did five with a pace of 9:58, between the rainstorms (again!). The rest of the week looks like good weather, so I might go for a bike ride as crosstraining tomorrow.
We saw Cars 2 in 3D over the weekend. I liked it, but thought the first one had more "heart" to it. The story has a mystery bad guy which was hard for Robert to follow.
I'm working on my ADR list for when we go to DL for the half. Anyone, Is Napa Rose worth the bucks? I know I want to eat at The Blue Bayou and have the Monte Cristo sandwich!

- Mike :cool2:

One of my race walking students went to the National Senior Olympics in Houston and did very well, he was second in both race walking events. Bummer is I couldn't go and I'm faster than him. Cleveland is going to be mine though, plenty of time to train and get my Grrrrrrrrr going.

I've had to take this week pretty much off from exercise since I'm working 12 hr days. I will go tomorrow with my group and then head to work.

We had storms all night again, no dammage though. It's garbage day for the other side of my road so the big cans are all turned over and lots of trash blown in their yards.

Mike I'm not sure what the horses name was.

Have an awesome tuesday y'all.

Dave:hippie:
