Hakuna Matada - Jumpin' into June!

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Just us Canadian gals racing this weekend! Good luck :)

(No races Mike?)

June
18 - Georgina 5K - Kim
18 - Toronto Pearson Runway Run 5K, Toronto, ON - Vicky

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Recipe for the muffins looks great - we have bags of frozen blueberries in our freezer from Scott’s parents - they grow them. Good luck on your race this weekend!

Dave - Yes, weeding rocks is a never ending chore!

Regina - Pixie Dust! Hope you are OK!

Kim - Good luck on your race this weekend!

AFM - It was windy yesterday, so I took dogs for 3 mile walk instead of bike ride - one of the dogs cut the pad of her back paw, so off to the vet to get it stitched up - she will be out of commission for a few days! Today is also windy and we had some storms go thru last night, but we might still get out for some laps on the bike and test out the winds - or do “wind training”.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Happy Friday team! Just a quick fly by for me. I've got my 5K tomorrow morning which I'm really looking forward to. I decided to make my dad a pie for Father's Day - I know he's not going to make himself a dessert (unlike my mom  ) so I'm safe there. I'm going to try a Boston Cream Pie - which may or may not be a good idea. I've never made one before but I've heard it's hard to mess up. I'm going to try and make the cake and cream ahead of time on Saturday ... just in case :)

Anyone else have plans for Father's Day?

We are headed back to PA to pick up my DH's old car. He really wants to visit the Gettysburg National Park while there. Kids are NOT looking forward to it but I pointed out that it is Father's Day weekend so they have to be good sports. ;)

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend and Happy Father's Day to the dads on this thread!

Hello Team!

Good luck to the weekend racers!

Vicky - For now I'm looking at Pop for marathon weekend unless a good discount comes out. We're following the MfM Run/Walk plan, we're working up to R4/W1 intervals for the half. I can't believe someone would steal food in your class.

Lemon blueberry muffins sounds yummy. I was going to make some carrot cupcakes today but when I went to the store to pick up some things I forgot the carrots and the cupcake liners :headache:

Yikes, 13%!? I thought our almost 10% tax was bad.

Lynn - Sorry, when I said DL I meant the whole resort/DTD, that's how I think of it in my head :) Glad you had a fun trip. I would have been sad about no pancakes too, they are my favorite breakfast food.

Mike - Great RR and finish time!

Kim - WTG on the weight loss. Hope your meds work out.

Regina - I hope you are ok!

AFM - It's been a busy week for both DH and I. One's of DH's coworkers is on vacation so he has to cover for him this week, he'll probably have to work this weekend too. Our last run was on Monday, but we're planning to go out tonight when Patrick gets home.

Our tivo went down this week, so we haven't been able to watch any of our usual shows. It seems that there is a problem with the hard drive, so Patrick's going to try to reformat it.

I woke up early this morning with a Charlie horse, I hate getting those. My calf hurt until around midday, but it's feeling better now. Anyone else have that problem, where your calf still hurts hours after a Charlie horse?

Have a great weekend!
Emily

Good Morning Team!

Happy Fathers Day tomorrow to all the fathers on our board! We have no special plans, the dogs are not good at celebrating Mothers or Fathers Day! We will just have to call Scott's Dad during the day!

Good Luck to all the weekend racers!

Scott wanted to do a 30 mile bike ride today, not sure weather is going to cooperate, looked good early, now it is clouding up, may have to stay close to home. Yesterday the wind picked up so we did 10 miles of laps around our loop - I call it "wind training" - riding into the wind for 1/2 mile, then having it at our backs for 1/2 a mile!

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Morning Team!

Regina~ I hope that you are okay and no one was hurt in the car accident. They can be scary, but as long as everyone is okay the rest is just plastic and sheet metal.

Elizabeth~ Congrats on your new "Disney race vehicle!" I like the looks of the Element.

Dave~ I also go to the the WDW races for the fellowship. I've never even come close to placing in my age group! I'm there to see everyone, have fun, and get away... and the medals!

Vicky~ Of course I have a race this weekend! I'll be running the Chicago Rock and Roll 5k (Tune up) in Montrose Harbor on Lake Michigan. The running gods have smiled upon me and I actually have gotten this weekend off. I should be working! :woohoo: I picked up the 5K to get yet another medal and a bonus extra medal when I complete the Chicago RNR half in August. Kind of like the Coast to Coast medal.

I was wondering if I could invite a new friend of mine to join our team? Convoluted story to follow: I am FB friends with our "past teamate" Beth and she had another FB friend named Richard that kept posting about running. Beth lives in New York. I saw that Richard posted a comment about something local, right here in Illnois. I FB friended him and found out that he lives about a mile from me, goes to the same gym, and shops at the same pet store! Weird huh? I figured, higher powers probably being involved, to meet him and see what he is like. We met yesterday at he gym and found out that he is new to running, doing the 5k with me on Sunday, and he just registered for the Donald in 2012! He seems really nice and is dedicated to getting healthier and losing weight. So, what does everyone think? He has alot of questions about marathon weekend and running in general.

I was also wondering if anyone can help me out with my pin collecting. I registered for the Goofy and preorder the Goofy race pins. I also want the Donald and Mickey pins. Is is possible to preorder the extras on Active, and how do I get them? I don't have confidence they will add them to my Goofy packet. Also, I would be willing to purchase or trade for them with any of you if you have extras. I know they sometimes have extras at the expo, but there is no guarantee... Thanks for any suggestions!

Train on! Mike :cool2:

Mike - I'm so sorry I forgot to add you to the list (again) How did your race go? What are you doing with all your medals? I think you're going to need an extra room in your house or something like that!

Of course Richard can join! The more the merrier! I'm okay with it. Is everyone else? No hard feelings either way...

That's such a coincidence that the two of you live so close together. Are you guys going to start training together?

Not sure about the pins - I'm thinking of arriving on Wednesday so I'll get to the expo first thing on Thursday. I'll be happy to pick up a Donald and Mickey pin for you. But...I won't know until I book my flights ... until there's a sale

AFM - I ran my 5K this morning in 27:58. I was doing really well at first and then got side stitches at the halfway mark so I ended up taking more breaks than I wanted. Oh well. Not bad for my first race this season. It's under 30 minutes so I'll take it. I do wish the race had started at 8AM, by 9AM it was pretty hot. But it was cool to watch planes landing and taking off as I was running. Other than the weather, my only complaint would be the kids who were "running" the race. A lot of them were maybe 5-7 and were starting near the front. I didn't care about that, except they'd turn back and run in the opposite direction or stop dead in their tracks when they realized they couldn't find mom or dad. I didn't want anyone to get trampled but people were having a hard time dodging with the crowds.

Anyway, going to get started on my Father's Day dessert so that I can *try* and get an early night.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads on our team!!

Last night was more storms here in the heartland. Each year we seem to be pushing the envelope of extremes: heat, cold, snow fall and flooding and now this year thunderstorms almost every other day. Maybe we should be building some of those Arks like in the Movie 2012.

Father's day is a marvalous day to remember how important being a positive example is. We never know when something we say or do could have a long term affect on another person. Inspire others to "Keep moving Forward".

I'm going walking with Sally as soon as she gets up and I can get some coffee into her. Thinking an hour around the mall since it's looking like it could start storming again any minute.

Are we all meeting that Friday before the Goofy weekend for breakfast? I can't seem to find that on here anymore and with so much happening in my life right now I forgot which day and where we were going to meet. I know Friday night is the Wish meet.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Everyone!

Dave~ I think most of us are in for the Friday team meet at the Kona Cafe. I think Vicky is setting the time. I'll be happy to chill, and chat with everyone. Our Chicago weatherman says we are caught in a jet stream pattern that is called the "ring of fire". I guess it causes these multiple storms to keep occuring. We have had the wettest Spring on record.

Vicky~ I hate it when kids stop in front of me! I always say I'm a freight train, and stopping on the tracks in front of me isn't a good idea!
You get the speedy award for this weekend! :cheer2: Great race, even with the stiches!

Race Report~ Chicago Rock and Roll 5k tune up: I got down to the city early enough to watch most of the sunrise over Lake Michigan at Montrose Harbor. I hung out for about 45 minutes watching them complete the set up, and met with my new friend, Rick (Richard). We walked around a little and ran into a fellow WISHER wearing his shirt. His name was Patrick. I didn't get his wife's name, but she had on a Princess half tshirt. Both very nice people! While talking to them, John Bingham found me and stopped to chat awhile! It was very cool to introduce him to Rick, who has read his books and is new to running! John was announcing the race today.
The race covered a few streets and some bikepath, typical stuff for a Chicago race on the lakefront. The first half mile had some inclines, but I really wouldn't call them hills. Today was not my day. I was sucking air from the start and my left calf didn't want to work right. This concerned me as that was where I had a blood clot after my cancer surgery. It has never been the same since. According to my Polar, my heart rate was maxed out form the start. With my leg feeling like a balloon, I just could'nt get into a rythm. I think I was dehydrated, as I had no spit after the first half mile.
Anyway, I finished in 28:11 with a 9:05 pace. The medal is really nice and we each got a pair of flipflops with the race logo on them. (Also, two free beers). Rick did really well, and this was his first "big" race. He is really happy!

Happy Father's day to all! Mike :cool2:

Very frustrated with the search engine on here. I'm trying to help Rick get to our thread but he can't find it. My searches don't come up with relevant info, either! Grrrrr!

Mike I haven't chatted with John since about 2007 or 2008 when he was the quest speaker at the WDW race weekend. Nice fellow, we should invite him for a beer next time we run into him at the World.

After the breakfast maybe we can do a bit of team park hopping and do some rides. Where is Kona?

Sally and I had a nice walk and then breakfast. This was her first hour walk since hurting her back moving furniture. I promised to shoot her if she rearranged the furniture without me again.

We had another storm and the power went out, but it turned out that it wasn't the storm but a car going to fast took out a power pole when they went around a corner and into a skid.

Hope everyone is having an awesome sunday and father's day.

Dave:hippie:

Dave~ Kona is right next to Ohana at the Polynesian! Tonga Toast time!

Happy Father's Day! I'm just waiting for my mom to get here so we can start dessert! She's out for a walk (but she goes really slowly ... shhh!!!) so it could be a while.

Dave - Lots of pixiedust: for Sally! No fun having back pain. Sounds like a massage is in order! The breakfast is on Friday morning and then we're doing a dinner at Chef Mickey's on Sunday after the full. Kona Cafe is in the Polynesian - it's right around the corner from 'Ohana. If you're walking toward the monorail, you can't miss it.

Lynn - You and Scott are the power couple - check out all those miles you're logging with the bikes! Happy Father's day to Scott :) How's Taiya doing?

Emily - Oh no! I do that all the time - there's always one thing missing from my grocery list! I think in my case, I get distracted by all the treats  I get calf cramps several times a year - putting it into a compression sock definitely helps. I usually try putting a hot pack (Magic Bag) onto my calf when that happens. Heat helps the muscle to relax. I've also heard that you can alternate between cold and hot packs to get the blood circulating again.

Mike - That's probably Liz & Patrick because they're from the Chicago area. If I'm thinking of the right couple, Patrick is a hoot! He's on my FB page so definitely check if he's the guy you were talking to. Congrats on your 5K! Sorry to hear about your calf - that stuff always seems to happen around race day! But you pulled off a great pace nevertheless!! Hope the heart rate wasn't anything serious - maybe just the heat and humidity! Oh and I love that John Bingham came over and chatted with you! That's awesome :)

Send Rick this link... see if that works:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2731833

He'll just need to register for the DISBoards and he should be able to post.

Elizabeth - Safe travels! Hope you, DH and the kids are having fun!!

Kim - Congrats on your 5K!! For some reason I just got your text message now. Wacky phone... How are your shins doing?

AFM - I did a 10 miler this morning! It was hot! I started out thinking I'd go and run my rolling hills route but the heat and the hills on the last 2 miles made me change my mind. There's also no shade for the mile where the hills area. I stuck to some residential streets just south of my neighbourhood. It was nice because those are older neighbourhoods with big trees so lots of shade. I came back iced, showered and started making the pie ... why IS Boston Cream Pie called a pie when it's more like a cake? :confused3 I made a slight mistake... I got distracted when I was putting on the chocolate ganache so it coated the whole cake and not just the top  Whoops!! Oh well, I'm not sure my dad will notice... :upsidedow

I've also been trying to get rid of this kink in my neck - I think I slept in a funny position last night. So for the whole day my head's been slightly tilted to the left ... Guess I'm going for the inquisitive look.

Good morning road warriors.

Vicky I think we are having dinner at the 9 Dragons on Sunday with the Disneyrunning group. We did the new pizza place last January and it was quite expensive for a pizza. I don't mind paying $60 for Sally and I to have a nice dinner but not for a pizza, salad and 2 beers.

Sally's back is much better no and she even walked a brisk hour yesterday with me at the mall while it was storming. She is working all week this week and officially goes full time on July 5th.

Mike we have to get together for a race.

Everyone have a super day and remember to keep your best Grrrrrr going.

Dave:hippie:

Hi Kids!

Dave~ if you are interested, the Chicago Rock and Roll half is on August 14th. I will be running it and there is a hotel near our house if you want to make the drive up. Unfortunately our house is way to tiny to accomodate guests. We could do dinner on Saturday night, and I can get us to the race and back. You would have the race entry, gas and hotel to pay for. I'll spring for dinner :goodvibes
Also, park hopping and rides after the Kona breakfast sounds like a great idea. I'll probably be traveling solo, so hanging out with friends would be great!

Vicky~ You and Eva are becoming the speedy ones! I want to run outside today, but the weather is not cooperating. Good job getting ten miles in!

How long is everyone staying for marathon weekend in January? I'm trying to decide if I want to take a long weekend or burn a weeks vacation and take the time to relax at the parks. I'm thinking Thurs 5th through Friday the 13th.

PS Vicky, please take me off the weight loss list... I'm starting over. As of today I was at 234.5 lbs. I was at 210 for last years Wine and Dine...Ugg!

- Mike :cool2:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Good job on your first race of the season! Taiya’s foot is doing fine, we changed the bandage yesterday (a rodeo - she does not like anyone, including us, to touch her feet!). We are good friends with Liz and Patrick!

Dave - We have also had some big storms - big hail storm last night along with lightning and thunder, same forecast for today - but not as severe.

Mike - Hope you had a good race. As far as I am concerned, the more the merrier, Richard is welcome to the thread! Sorry can’t help with pin info. Great race report. Patrick and Liz are great folks! Hope your leg is better!

AFM - No bike ride yesterday - storming all day - today will be the same - guess it is time to hit the spin bike in the basement! Saturday we headed out for 30 miles, got about 20 miles and hit a hail storm, luckily we were very near a school bus shelter and took cover there for about 20 min. We were about 2 miles from the house at the time, so cut the rest of the planned route short and just headed home when the hail stopped.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi again!

I am officially booked in a standard room at the POP from Thursday Jan 5th to Friday the 13th. Did anybody spring for an upgraded room?

Mike that race sounds like fun but that's not going to be in the cards for me. Might consider it for next year though. The first travel race I'm doing is the USAF Half on Sept 17th. I like travel races but with Sally just now going to work the funds will still be short for a while. If you came down this way for a race I do have a guest room. Sally and I bought a nice 2 story house last year on a 1.2 acre lot. Lots of room and country setting in an upscale neighborhood where all the homes are on one acre plus lots. If the economy weren't so bad I would never have got it in my price range.

Aslo Mike since you are going to be at Disney on Monday why don't you join us at the Disneyrunning lunch ratkillin at the German Buffet in Epcot. We have great Buffet lunch and then wander the world showcase chatting and having beer and then head off to the Magic Kingdom for evening rides while the crowds are all watching the parades. Just let me know and I'll ask Robert to make an extra resservation for you to join us.

I went to the park for a nice brisk 4 miler on the hills. Time was 50:55 but a good effort because of the challenging terrain.

Lynn, we haven't had a chance to hang out with Liz and Patrick for quite a while. I miss hanging out with you and Scott to, we have to meet somewhere next year. Will y'all be doing any Disney races next year?

Everyone have a great Monday.

Dave:hippie:

Hello team!

Mike - The more the merrier, IMO, Richard is very welcome. I don't know how long we're staying for marathon weekend yet, I think we're arriving on Jan 5th. Congrats on your 5k!

Vicky - WTG on your race!

Lynn - Wow, good thing you were near a shelter that would have been awful if you had been stuck in the hail.

AFM - I did my long run yesterday morning, 4 miles again this week. It went alright, but I didn't feel so well the second half. It was pretty humid for So Cal.

Pixie dust for those who need it!

Have a good night,
Emily
