Hakuna Matada - Joyful June

Good Morning Team!

Dave - Yes, I knew that you no longer had a source of DVC points. We have been using our points so much that if we went, we would also be staying at Pop Century! (Too many cruises and Adventures by Disneys)

Kimberly - No, have not made the cake yet - I am also trying to lose weight, and I am afraid that if I have something like that around, it will really blow the diet. Take care of your own health!

Kipp - Getting hit on a bike can be scary, so far, all my crashes have been my own doing - usually because I did not unclip my feet fast enough. But we find it a great exercise when the knees do not like walking and running. The Pluto is what I used to do!

AFM - I had gum surgery yesterday, so I have been instructed to take it easy today, it is also smokey out today from the wild fire in Colorado. So, may take the bike out for an easy ride, but no major miles added today. Yesterday we did another 16.5 miles on the bikes. My jaw is starting to hurt again, did use pain killers for the night, but hoping to avoid them during the day, so better get to the ice again. This was the third surgery to correct a “pocket”, and because it was the third try, I think the Doc was a lot more aggressive than the previous 2 times, so I may be hurting longer than the last 2 times.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Dave: I will be there on the 10th as well so dinner at OHana sounds cool. Christi and Ryan don't arrive until sometime Thursday night (because of his school) so it might be just me for dinner. Let me know what you decide to do and how we are handling the ADRs for that.

Kipp: Yeah, getting hit by a car is scary. I got 'bumped' by a car last fall while on a morning run. I ended up putting both hands on the hood of the car while running backwards as the driver pushed me into oncoming traffic. Scared me to death! Luckily he finally stopped. Hey, congrats on going down 2 lbs already!

Kimberly: Wow! Your work is crazy busy! They better be giving you a serious bonus with all the effort you are putting in! Right now, all 12 of my medals are on a medal hangar that is lying across the back of a chair in the living room because I don't know where to 'hang' it. LOL

And as far as the Full goes, our team does meet at the runners area before heading to the corrals. A bunch of us are planning on running together so you are more than welcome to be part of the fun! We will support each other all the way to the Finish!

Lynn: Sending PD your way for healing from the surgery! I hope that the third time is the 'charm'!

AFM: This week I feel like a slug. Ryan is in the hospital for this week to deal with a recurring condition. He is doing well. But it makes for long evenings so I have not been getting a lot of sleep, so getting up in the mornings to run is just not happening. I am going to try to get a run in tomorrow morning.

My Marathon Training Program through the RRCA started last Sunday (of course, I wasn't there because of my race). So next Sunday will be my first Long Run with this program. I hope I will be rested enough to have a good run with them. The weekly schedule will be Thursday-Track Workouts, Saturday-Short Run, Sunday-Long Run. One nice thing about the program is that for the Long Runs, they provide course support (water stations, aid, etc).

Yesterday, I signed up for a 20-mile race on September 16th -- the same date as my scheduled 20-Mile Training Run in preparation for the Chicago Marathon. So I figured if I have to run the 20 miles anyways, why not get a cool medal and tech shirt for it! They advertise this race specifically as "your last Long Run before the Chicago Marathon" and it is a flat course along the Fox River. It should be fun!

Hope everyone has a good day -- today is HUMP Day so the weekend is coming into view!

Lynn - hope you feel better soon - take it easy - don't overdo it after surgery!

Vicky - forgot to say congrats! on those long runs even in the heat

Rick - I hope Ryan feels better soon - and I would love to be a part of the team in the morning of the marathon - but I dont' want to slow anyone down - does everyone have a general time in the run or just everyone joins? I really would rather not do this by myself.

I'm also SOOOO jealous of your 20 mile race - we have nothing like that around here, and believe me I looked. I've looked for 25 k race, 30 k race, 20 mile race - nothing. they only have a 1/2 marathon on that day which I'm going to do if nothing else. if anyone knows of any in the northeast in september, I would love to hear about it!

I did not run the Marathon in January, but perhaps Vicky, Mike, or Eva can respond. I know they all ran together and finished together as a team. So my guess is they agreed upon a pace and then worked from there. Since they were all Goofyers, they were not going for PRs.

I know that Vicky, Mike, and I will definitely be running together and since we are all going Goofy, the goal will not be to run "fast" but to enjoy the run, the new course, and finish upright. :)

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Lynn: feel better!

Regina: How is the ankle? Did you take the job?

Kipp: Congrats on going Pluto! Way to go on the weight loss! It is great to have someone losing weight along with you. I always do better when I have a team mate :thumbsup2

Vicky: The muffins were quite good; thanks again for sending. Lynn sent me a muffin recipe too so I'm trying hers this weekend.

Rick: You are a writing/running machine! Hope Ryan is well soon. I know that must be stressful!

Hi, Eva, Kim, Stacey, Emily, Kimberly, Dave, and everyone else!

AFM: I joined my girls along with 250,000 other Girl Scouts to rock the National Mall during a 100th anniversary Scout celebration in DC on Saturday. Had a great time in the city but I returned home with a stomach virus. Bad news is that I can't eat much without getting sick. Good news is that I can't eat much without getting sick so I'm losing weight. ;) I've been unable to run too. I've had nightmares about not finishing the WDW marathon every night since Sunday so I really hope that I'm well enough to get out there tomorrow. I think the nightmares will stop when I'm back to training.

Hello team!

Vicky - Swan Lake was great. However, they used a lot blue lighting which made me sleepy :) The long run cake recipe looks yummy!

Lynn - pixiedust: for you, hope you are feeling better!

Elizabeth - Hope you're feeling better. Did you have good time in DC otherwise?

AFM - Went for a run yesterday, I felt pretty good even though it had been several days since my last run. We also shortened our walk interval, per plan, and that went better then I thought it would. I tried another pilates video through Netflix tonight but I didn't like it. A bit too advanced for me and not a lot of explanation on the exercises.

Looks like there are some fun team meets planned for January, I'm sad I won't be able to join you. I've been tempted to sign up for the marathon since it's the 20th anniversary, but don't think I will. I'm not sure I actually want to train for a marathon, it seems so daunting. Finances are another reason, as you all know Disney and airfare is not cheap. I may do the Tinkerbell instead since it's almost a local race for us.

Have a good night!
Emily

I plan to walk the marathon at about a 12 mpm average pace. I only train with a weekly 10 miler for my long distance so I have to do a steady pace the whole way and it gets rough about mile 14 to 17 then I get a second wind after that and feel pretty good the last 9 miles. I don't really train for the marathon since the Disney is the only one I do. The weekly 10 miler keeps me in good half marathon shape though and I do several during the year.

Anyone else like the Ohana idea for thursday? We used to do that for DisneyRunning and I really enjoyed it. The food is awesome and very reasonable, about $70 for two all you can eat and it's great grilled food, big shrimp are my favorite.

I did a strong 6.5 today and I'm actually getting optimistic for healing up completely and coming back much stronger.

Dave

Emily: The marathon is daunting to me too, which is why I think I'm having so many nightmares. I've heard great things about the Tinkerbell run so you should definitely consider it. Yes, I had a great time in DC. Many of the museums had discounts or early hours for the scout troops so we were able to do several things that we hadn't done before.

Dave: Are you saying that you never exceed 10 miles during your training? Is that because of the time needed for long weekly runs or is it to avoid injury?

AFM: I felt well enough to get out this morning and run. I hope everyone else is able to get outside today and that you have some beautiful weather to enjoy!

I've learned over the years of doing those distance events that I can finish my one marathon a year pretty comfortably with a weekly average of 30 miles with one 10 miler in there per week. Right now I have had to back off from the 10 mile to rehab my achillies tendonitis but I'm still doing a 6.5 miler each week. By the middle of next month I should be back to the 10 mile distance.

Monday I normally do 5 miles with speed intervals at the track, Tues just a good stretching day with some sort of cross training, Wed the 6.5 moderate intensity hill training walk with my race walking team, Thurs stretching and cross training, Fri or Sat a strong 4 mile training walk and then Sun an easy 3 to 4 miles with Sally. This is my current schedule during the rehab.

When I have completely recovered I'll up the miles and intensity more.

Today will be a good leg workout in the morning with lots of stretching and attention to the small muscles of the legs, then in the afternoon pool aerobics with Sally.

Have a day filled with magic and wonder guys.

Good Morning Team!

Dave - Good job on your healing process!

Rick - Thanks, the jaw is better, does not hurt although it is still swollen. I also hope the “third time is a charm”.

Kimberly - Thanks, I feel fine, of course I overdid a bit yesterday, but it did not affect my jaw.

Elizabeth - Thanks. Hope you feel better!

Emily - Thanks.

AFM - We did about 11 miles yesterday, we were going to take it easy, because of my surgery and the air quality, well, Scott may have taken it easy, but I cannot take it easy when I go out with Scott! No ill effects though. My jaw is still swollen, but has not hurt since the first night. Today, air is better, but pretty windy.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team!

Glad to see so many of us are coming to the meets! I really like our mini meets because I find the Friday WISH meet to be a bit big sometimes.

Lynn - Ouch! My mom had gum surgery a few years ago. It's not fun. Hope you're feeling better today. Good job on the 11 miler! I hope to see you and Scott in January again. That was such a fun surprise when you guys showed up at Kona this year :)

Dave - I'll let you know about 'Ohana and Biergarten closer to January. I want to wait and see if free dining is available. Fingers crossed! Good job on the 6.5 miler! Have a fun workout with Sally this afternoon :)

Elizabeth - Sounds like the DC trip was fun (except for the stomach bug)! I love going to all the museums there. I also love that everything there is walkable. Hope you feel better soon! You will be awesome in the marathon in January! Still plenty of time to start training :)

Emily - I'd love to do the Tinkerbelle one year but it's so close to WDW weekend. I can't give you any advice on airfare but if you got a roommate, it might help with the cost of a WDW trip? Good job on the run! I hope the weather stays cool for you :)

Rick/Kimberly - The way it worked last year was that Eva and I had planned to run together for both races (which we did). We met up with Rick, Mike, Dave and some other WISH'ers at the start and then head out to the corrals. For the half, Rick, Mike, Eva and I all started together and then Rick and Mike took off after the first mile. Eva and I took our time and took character pictures almost everywhere we could. I think we probably had close to 20-25 minutes of waiting in line time for different pictures.

The second day Eva and I were set to run together again and we met up with Mike. He stuck with us this time even though we were using run/walk intervals (4/1). We didn't stop for many pictures during the full - except for one with Jeff Galloway, my Jiminy Cricket picture and one with the Up! characters. Most of the characters were the same as the half. I think somewhere in AK, we realized that Mike had the opportunity for a PB so we did try keeping the pace that we started with.

I think as long as we all agree on a pace, the kind of run that we want to do (continuous vs. interval) and that people can come and go, we should be fine :) We can talk more about once everyone's decided on their races.

Kipp - Congrats to you and your dad on the weight loss! Awesome job! That's pretty cool that you inspired your niece to run as well. Maybe we'll get to meet her one year at the races. Glad to hear you're in for the half and 5K!

Rick - Lots of pixiedust: for Ryan! Hope everything is okay. The 20 miler sounds like a good training run for the full. I like your thinking about the medal and tech shirt as bonuses :)

Kim - WTG on the hot yoga! How goes the clean eating :) Yes, you were the one I was most worried about having to force into the team meets  I just didn't want a repeat of the drama last year.

AFM - I was suppose to make it out for a run this morning but I had a headache and decided to sleep in instead. I worked out at the gym last night and managed to do a single deadlift of 170 lbs. It was from the rack but it's about 5lbs heavier than my previous deadlift PB. I told my chiro that I wanted to try it from the ground next time :)

I have a recipe for lemon blueberry buttermilk muffins. I like buttermilk anything so I'm a bit biased that way  You can find it here. I also have some other recipes that are more focused on protein ... I just have to find the time to make them LOL

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Kimberly - There are two 30K races in my area (Toronto) but I'm not sure how close you are to us. One is called the Midsummer Night's Run and it's in August and starts around 5:30PM. It's by the lake so it's not as warm. The second is called Around the Bay in Hamilton and that one is at the end of March. Those are the only two I know of - they're not common distances.

Elizabeth: Hope you are feeling better. I agree… I think your nightmares will likely stop are actually preparing for the race.

Rick: Hope Ryan is doing well. Good luck with your marathon training, my began this week too!

Lynn: Hope your jaw feels better soon. I have been reading about the fires in Colorado, hopefully they are under control soon, or at the very least stay away from you!

Kimberley: I may be up for joining the group run for Mickey too. If you are worried about going too slow, don’t be. I got this crazy notion to go very hard for the Donald and try to PR it, so I am thinking I will be the one trying to keep up with everyone else the next day

Emily: Just starting a program, and I agree with marathon training being daunting, for me it is not so the effort involved, but the time commitment. But running a full was on my bucket list and I am already committed to two (October, then WDW)…after that, we’ll see…I may stick to halfs and continuously focus on improving my time.

Kipp: Congrats on registering for the Pluto, and way to go on the weight loss! Keep up the good work

Dave: mmm…you mention ohana. It wouldn’t be hard to convince me to eat there. They had some awesome noodle dish last time I ate there, perfect for carb loading

Vicky: I would be up for Kona breakfast for sure. Not sure on Sunday supper, still not sure if my BIL is serious about really wanting to do the Drinking Around The World thing on Sunday, so I’ll have to get back to you in that one. I may have picked up another BIL who is thinking of going down too. When do you NEED to know numbers?

AFM: I have been a busy guy lately, started coaching my kids soccer (two nights a week) and baseball (one night and Sat morning), and work has been really busy lately with me pulling several late nighters (and a few all nighters). On top of that, I started my full marathon training program this week too. I created my own program because I could not find one that I really liked. Hopefully it goes well, but I am a little concerned as I showed it to a few running friends and there were mixed reviews…some thought it was too aggressive for a first time marathon. I have 4 weeks of over 50 miles and a few weekends with 9-10 miles runs on Saturday, followed with a 20+ mile run on Sunday. Oh well, I guess it is something you need to live and learn

Have a good weekend and Happy Father’s Day to all the other Dads out there

Robbie

Elizabeth I really should add that I don't go completely by miles but by time in motion. Today for instance I didn't do any miles but did train for 2 and a half hours. I often combine miles with other stuff like yard work so I get a total time in motion of several hours even though I might have only done a 5 miler, I would finish that and push the mower for 2 hours. Or do a training walk then do the house work.

Today I had a strong stretching, calisthanics and weight machine workout then I did a half hour of sprints in the pool before the water aerobics class with Sally.

Hi all.

Unfortunately I put together this big post this afternoon and as I hit submit my computer locks. :(
Real quick: PD to all who need! Hope everyone is feeling better.
Vicky, we would love to join in for Dinner Sunday. Myself, jeff and Alicia. Thanks. We would love to do Kona, but we won't be at the World in time. We get in that morning.

Have a great night all!

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - We have no plans to be at WDW this coming Jan. We are out of DVC points, so cannot make a reservation there. Maybe for the next year, it was fun to visit with folks at marathon weekend. Good job on the dead lift record!

Stacey - Don’t you hate it when the computer erases a long post! I now type everything in a word document, then copy and paste it to the boards.

Robbie - The Colorado fires are a good 50 miles from us, but we still get the smoke. Yesterday was a good day for us, wind was from the north. Sounds like you have been really busy!

AFM - We did a 24 mile bike ride yesterday, planning on another today, but wind looks really bad, do not know if we want to brave it or not. Tomorrow we have the “Tour de Chili” as part of the Chugwater Chili Festival, about 40 miles north of us. Thanks to all who have expressed good wishes and PD for my surgery. All is good at this point.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

We have a new addition to the family, sally drove to Clarksville yesterday and picked up a Welch Corgi for me. It was a surprise father's day gift. I don't know how to post a picture on here but if you go to my facebook page it's on there. I will take more pics today.

I had a very good training walk yesterday, 5 miles on a windy hilly course. First mile was a slower warmup, 12:29, 4 mile split was 48:05 and total for the 5 miles was 1 hour 20 sec. This is going to be my measure route for monitoring how I'm healing and improving. I'm about 75% right now. I wanted a route that would measure my strength gains as well as speed that's why I picked a hilly route.

I finished that hot high 8os walk and was sweating like a panda on a treadmill, then did an hours of strengthing and stretching at the health club. As I was heading to the locker room I passed a woman about my age and I asked her, "do I look like I worked out hard enough". He looked at my sweat dripping body and said "yeah you do".

We are heading off soon to do a walk with Nemo (Corgi's name) and then hit Pet Co for supplies.

Good Morning Team! Happy Father's Day!

Dave - Congrats on your new family member, will check out FB for pictures.

AFM - Had a good ride at the "Tour de Chili" yesterday, it was an early morning, we were up at 5am and on the road by 6am. Got to Chugwater by 7am and checked in for bike ride. As I am really slow, we started early on the ride, supposed to start at 8am, we started about 7:45. There were some hills, but the course was out and back on 2 different roads, both were basically uphill out and downhill back, so the last leg was basically downhill. Nothing was really steep, some long. After the bike ride, we got into the "Chili Tasting", first was salsa tasting at 11:30, then the chili tasting at 1pm. There was some very good music, some good chilis. We voted for our favorite salsa, green chili and red chili, then headed back home. We were back by 4pm. It was a fun day! We put in 29 miles on the bikes.

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Good morning team!

Lynn - Glad you had fun at Tour de Chili.

Dave - Nemo is really cute!

Vicky - WTG on the deadlift.

Robbie - I agree, time commitment is one of the reasons I'm not sure about doing a full.

AFM - We did a 6 miler yesterday. It went alright. I ended up very sore from the Pilates I tried earlier in the week so I think that affected my run. Today I have to run errands and do chores.

Still haven't made a decision on the WDW marathon vs. the Tinkerbell. I think I'm leaning towards the Tinkerbell. I need to decide soon because if I pick the full I want to resgister before the price increase or if I pick Tink registration was already at 51% full after 2 days.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads in Hakuna Matada!

Dave: Nemo is adorable!

Emily: Good luck on making a decision about the race weekends. They are roughly the same price, right? Except for airfare?

Vicky: I pinned your long run cake on Pinterest and it is getting quite a few repins. I really like the changes you made to the recipe. The modifications that I saw online were usually to increase the agave syrup. I like the maple/orange flavoring better. I plan to make it later this week. Think it would work well in cupcake papers?

Lynn: The Tour de Chili sounds fun. Glad to hear you are healing from the gum surgery.

Stacey: How is your training coming?

Robbie: Your training plan does sound aggressive, especially those back-to-back weekend runs. What is about other plans that you didn't like? Not enough mileage or not enough training time? If your concerns continue, you might want to post your plan on one of the threads here for more feedback.

AFM: Great easy run yesterday. I have a long run planned tomorrow before work. I've found a local 5k to join on 7/28. I'm anxious to get back to some races to see just how well I can do.

Enjoy the week, everyone!

Sorry gang have been super busy and haven't had a chance to catch up.

Hope everyone is doing great!!!!!
