Hakuna Matada - Joyful June

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - I do not know enough about fruit trees to know why sometimes I get lots and sometimes I get none - we just water them and wait to see what happens. I always though it mostly had to do with whether or not we had frost when trees were budding, but I am not really sure that is the only variable. Someday I will do some research - I actually have several books on fruit trees but have not read them. Scott is feeling a little better every day.

Dave - Sept trip to Disney sounds like fun - although, for us, a trip to Disney is not very “relaxing” LOL. PD for your cold! Glad to hear the achilles is doing better.

Stacey - Keep on plugging!

Rick - Have fun in your race!

AFM - We went into town on the bikes yesterday to go to Subway for kids meals so we could get the “Brave” tote bags. We put 30 miles on the bikes, and had Subway for lunch. I have to say the kids meals subs are the perfect size, too bad you do not get as much choice in ingredients, or maybe we could if we asked. There was a fair wind to fight into town, mostly a cross wind on the way home. Today is going to be HOT, so we went out for our ride early, got in 16 miles today. Yesterday I never really did recover from the ride, I was wiped all day, today I feel much better.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good Morning Team!

Rick - great race/walk report!

AFM - Really windy today, the morning dog walk was quite cool, will have to see what the rest of the day shows. Might be another inside workout day. I did get in over 100 miles on the bike last week (with the 2 long rides).

Pixie Dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day all!

Hello team! Just a quick post for me today.

I've had a farily busy weekend. We went to see Swan Lake on Thursday and it was really good. Then been keeping busy with work, chores, and such.
I was supposed to do my LR today, but don't think that's going to happen since I'm not feeling very well.

Hope everyone is well.

Have a great day!
Emily

Vicky I have my work cut out for me, I just today did 2 miles without any pain and I have a 26.2 miler waiting in six months. Right now that seems like a pretty high hill to climb. I'm determined to get rid of this cronic achillies problem I've suffered with off and on for the last 7 years. I've made good progress though and each day is better. I've had some set backs and learned some things didn't know about stretching and strengthening the leg muscles. So I think I'll be winning this battle soon.

Mike, Rick, how are you guys feeling after that bunch of racing this month?

I bought new shoes, I'm thinking a light stability shoe might help my recovery and future training. runningwarehouse.com has the Gel DS trainer on liquidation sale for $48 before our wish discount so that was a good time to try them out. It's last years model but it's the same as the new except for the color. I got some Mizuno Musha 4s also.

I'm feeling the love of sport and motion again, I'd kinda got in a bit of a slump for a while with all the pain involved with healing and recovering but I've worked through most of it so I'll be around more again.

Be strong, train smart and race hard brother and sister athletes.

Dave:hippie: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Dave: Well I thought I was pretty well recovered from the 39.3 effort last weekend but today made it very clear that this was not the case. Add to that the 90 degree heat during the North Shore Half this morning, and it made for a very slow (but successful) race experience.

I am glad that we finished the race, and that we did it together as a team, but I have to be honest and say I am happy that my next race isn't until July 22. Plenty of time for me to recover, get back into a run training regimen, and become more acclimated to running in the summer climate.

My race report for the North Shore Half is posted on my blog.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Scott printed out your recipe for Long Run Cake, guess he wants to try it, guess I better pick up some of the ingredients that I don’t have when I go shopping today!

Dave - Good job on keeping pain at bay, hope the new shoes work for you.

Rick - Good job making it thru your race!

Emily - Hope you feel better soon!

AFM - Not much to say today, spend yesterday weeding the rocks! We are going to try for bike ride this afternoon, Scott has an appointment this morning.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Good morning team.

I just sent the information to Dreams Unlimited to get my room reservation for Sept 16th thru Sept 22. Planning on trying Pop Centry.

Interval workout today was awesome. 5 X400m with the best 2:25. That's better than last week and vertually prain free. Workout was 5 miles total.

Be strong and train smart.

Dave:hippie:

Good morning everyone! Happy Monday!

Lynn - Let me know how it turns out! How's Scott feeling? I hope you're able to get out for your ride this afternoon. WTG on all the biking! 100 miles is incredibly impressive.

Dave - I was pretty happy with Pop back in January. It was nice walking around the resort at night. Good job on the pain free workout!

Rick - Congrats on your HM! I read your RR and left a comment for you there :) It's always so much more fun to do the races with someone. I find it makes the time fly by.

Emily - How was Swan Lake? Hope you're feeling better!

AFM - It was a hot hot weekend! I still managed to get in my 8.7 miler and my 5 milers. Sunday was especially humid and I had to drop down to a slower pace (12:00 m/m). I stuck to a shady trail and ended up running it back and forth a few times. It was boring but it was much too hot to be in the sun.

I also went to see 'Prometheus' and thought it was ok. The cinematography was well done but the story was confusing for me at some points. I thought it was because I hadn't seen 'Alien' in a while but my friend who's a bigger fan was also a bit confused. The movie made sense after I came back and read an FAQ.

On my blog, there's a recipe for a long run cake. I'm not sure why it's called cake because it's more like a brownie but it's great for a pre-workout snack or something small before you go running in the morning. And hey, it's got chocolate so you can't go wrong ;) Check it out here if you haven't seen it yet.

Hope everyone is having a great day! :wave2:

Ok I'm booked at the Pop for the Sept trip and if I like it then I'll probably stay in January, if not so much then I'm going to try Port Orleans. I miss getting to stay at the DVC resorts but buying into them isn't ecconomicly smart right now for Sally and I.

No training today, just work, stretching and lots of strengthing exercises for the calves and ankle muscles.

Vicky, yes till you get used to the heat it can be a bugger. I sweat like a bear on a treadmill on hot days but the heat really doesn't bother me other than that.

Dave:hippie:

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Will let you know about cake when I get around to baking it, I did pick up the missing ingredients at store yesterday. Scott’s back is doing much better, he is back to normal activities. We did get out for bike ride yesterday.

Dave - You will miss DVC, but staying at a Disney Resort is not bad.

AFM - We did get out yesterday afternoon for a 16 mile bike ride. Winds were “variable”, at one point I was watching a tumbleweed on the road in front of me, first it went left, then right, then straight at me! Wind was sometimes non existent, then would blow one direction one minute and the opposite direction the next.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi kids!

The ADR window is coming up about a month from now. Based on the poll from May, it seems like everyone is in favour of Whispering Canyon Cafe for a celebration dinner on Sunday night after the marathon. And I think everyone was in favour of Kona Cafe for a carb loading breakfast on Friday morning (Jan 11). Yes? Still time for other suggestions :)

So for the breakfast, I'm going to try and grab a later time something like 10:30 or 11AM. That way, anyone who's in the 5K will have time to clean up and get to the Polynesian. And for dinner, I'm aiming for something earlier like 5PM - that way, we'll have time to eat and then hit the parks afterward or whatever.

And just so there isn't that confusion from last year... These meets are optional. You don't have to wear your WISH shirts. If you have plans with family or friends, no worries. You get the idea... but we'd love to see everyone and you can stay for as long or as little time as you'd like.

I will try my very best to book the reservations and have it so that we're all sitting together but my understanding is that it's never a guarantee. I will see about going through Grand Gatherings and whether they can help to get us ADRs.

So with that said... Who's in for pancakes and BBQ? :cheer2:

Kona Cafe (Breakfast) Jan 11:
Vicky - 1
Rick - 3 (Christi, Ryan, Rick)
Kim - 2 (Kim & DH)
Kipp - 1
Dave - 2 (Dave & Sally)
Robbie - 2 (Robbie & BIL)

Whispering Canyon Cafe (Dinner) Jan 13:
Vicky - 1
Rick - 3 (Christi, Ryan, Rick)
Kim - 2 (Kim & DH)
Kipp - 1
Dave - 2 (Dave & Sally)
Kimberly - 3 (Kimberly, DH & DS)
Stacey - 3 (Stacey, DH & DD)

Well If I am not forced to go to team meets then I am not coming:lmao::lmao:

Just kidding....Mike and I are in for both breaky...TONGA TOAST!!!!! and dinner.

Dave - About a week out from your reservation, or try when you check in, I'd HIGHLY recommend requesting a top floor room (4th floor). I've stayed at Pop! many times now and that is my #1 recommendation for staying there. Port Orleans is great to stay at just for the Run/Walk that you can do on their paths around the river. I've stayed at both French Quarter and Riverside. My preference was FQ, but Riverside was very nice too where we were at (Magnolia area I think it was called).

Lynn - I've been looking at getting a bike again recently. I used to ride ALL of the time, but haven't ridden since I got clipped by a car too many years ago now. I took a side view mirror to the tuckus that sent me and the bike flying about 10-15 ft. Luckily I only had a giant bruise to tend to out of the mess, and not being able to sit for a couple of weeks...

Vicky - Count me in for both the breakfast and the dinner :)

AFM - It's OFFICIAL! I'm all signed up for Pluto! pluto: (I will call the 5K and Half combo Pluto until it catches on!!!) I was fretting about having enough saved up to make the price increase deadline by the 19th, but Dad came through and offered some help to make sure I didn't have to pay extra.

Now on to Dad's and my weigh in for today:
Week 1 - Dad lost 3 pounds (230/227#, 1.3%) to my 2 pounds (249/247#, .80%).

Week 1 goes to Dad!

For those that have done the 5K before, about what time do people tend to finish up? My niece was telling me that she wanted to do the Half with me, but she will not be old enough by next January. I said that she could do the 5K, but it would probably interfere with school since it's on Friday.

It just makes me proud to think that I've inspired her to try out for Track at school, just by the fact that she came out with the rest of the family and cheered me on at the Half this year.

Vicky count Sally and I in for everything. We are in for the breakfast on Friday and the Sunday dinner and if anyone wants to do a monday lunch at the German Buffet we would love to do that again also. Any plans for a thursday dinner?

Kipp, thanks for the hint on the Pop, we will surely do that. And 5K times are anywhere from an average runner doing about 25 to 30 min and an average walker from 35 min to 40 min. I walk mine in about 32 min right now.

Tomorrow is my long workout. It's been just 6.5 miles here lately since I've been rehabing but hopefully in about a month I'll be back to 10 milers. A ten miler a week puts you in great shape for a half marathon and that's where I like to stay then a marathon is just a stretch more in endurance and will power.

Dave:hippie:

Kipp: my cousin ran the 5K with us and we finished in about 33 minutes. Her father was able to get her to middle school afterwards on time.

Dave: I am staying at POP Century again for WDW 2013. Ask for a 'pool view' room.

Vicky: can you add a few other races for me?
- Jul 8: ECW Triennial 5K, Indianapolis, IN
- Sep 16: Fox Valley Fall Final 20 Miler, St. Charles, IL
- Nov 24: Turkey Trot Half Marathon, Schaumburg, IL

Thanks!

WTG Kipp and Dad!!! also congrats on signing up!!! I am waiting till the theme has been announced before I decide if I am doing the 5K.

Dave: We have always done Biergarten on Monday...as you know but we wait until free dining has been announced first.

Rick: Wow you are a racing machine!!!!

Not much new with me the scale doesn't seem to be moving but I am not giving up just plugging away.

Have a super day everyone!!!

Kimmer when you make those reservations for monday lunch at the German buffet please add Sally and I.

Thanks for the tip Rick.

Lynn I know we will miss it but I can't use Roberts points any more and the going rate I saw on renting points was $13 dollars a point and that put it out of our budget range. This 6 days at the Pop tax and all is $446.51 with my military rate.

Anyone interested in doing dinner on that Thursday night? An after EXPO dinner at Ohana maybe?

Last years breakfast was just awesome, especially since we got to see Lynn and Scott.

Today will be a full one for me, 6.5 miles hard with my team and then 12 hours of work. But I get the next two days off after that.

Have a super day y'all.

Dave

Congrats to all who did their races!
I'm waiting to the last minute to sign up before the price increase. I would like to tentatively sign up for the dinner (three of us) but may ask my friends who are running the 1/2 to join us - so I'll let you know!

was off track with running last week. only ran 3 days for 15 miles but I had a huge project due monday and had a lot of overnights which is not easy to do with a preschooler! one day I had full day of work, took son to swim class and make up t-ball game - met dad at game, and when game done at 7 pm, went back to work until 3 am next morning! then got home to dh sick so back out to store for some meds. then woke up at 8 to find dh and ds were still home (should have been at work and school) so had to get up to bring ds to school while dh took day off bc still sick - so needless to say, didn't run!

this week, I've run m, t, and today with 15 miles in the can.

rick - you are crazy with teh races - good for you! where are all the medals going?

kipp - congrats on signing up and starting the weight race too!

when does the 5k start? i'm contemplating doing it with DS in a stroller.

lynn - made the cake yet?

windwalker/dave - congrats on getting pop and hope the training is to your satisfaction

hockeychic - we'll force you!

question - do we try to join up the morning of the marathon to start together or are each on their own? I will be by myself so would love a buddy to start - but you don't have to stay with me during the race - unless you see me looking like I want to give up - then you have permission to kick me in the rear!

great day and pixie dust to all!
