Hakuna Matada - Joyful June

Thanks for the feedback Vicky and Rick: I'll be sure not to do anything other than walking the dogs on Tuesday. I'll start the new schedule next week.

Vicky: Did you see Brave? Hope the ankle brace works.

AFM: Just a quick run this morning because the girls have a ton of end of year activities/parties scheduled. I'm about to make Rice Krispie treats for a class picnic later today. I'll try very hard not to try one!

Hi everyone, another quickly checking in from work post.

My mid year resolution is to check in more regularly:rolleyes1

I am again tweaking my workouts, I had my long distances on the weekend cause that is when Mike liked to do them, but after a 3 mile walk the other night he thinks he is going to shut it down till the 14 weeks out from the 1/2 in January and see how it feels, that is if registration is still open:confused3. I prefer to do my long distances on Friday night so will be doing a bit of tweaking to change my workouts around.

I promise to catch up this weekend. Hope everyone is doing great.

Kim

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Yes, we did make SPAM donuts - quite a while ago. I had a PT tell me I shouldn’t sleep on my stomach, it took quite a while, and use of a body pillow, but I now sleep on my side. Never did make it to sleeping on my back, but I do sometimes wake up in that position. Good job booking flights at a discount!

Kim - Don’t work too hard, and have fun tweaking the exercise.

Elizabeth - Training schedule looks good to me. Rice Krispie treats are one of my favorites, I would have a hard time not eating any!

AFM - Wind picked up early yesterday, so we ended up not doing anything, other than my dog walk. Today, we were supposed to meet some of our MS ride team early for a bike ride, we were at the meet point early, so just headed out on own own. We did run into some other folks and stopped to visit for a bit, then headed off on our own. We ended up doing 23 miles. But dogs did not get a walk today, too hot by the time we got home.

Pixie dust to all who are in need!

Have a great day team!

Hi team! Happy Wednesday :)

Lynn - I tried the body pillow but found that it trapped a lot of heat. It was great for the winter but not so much in the summer. I'm okay sleeping on my side but my back is tricky. Do the dogs get restless if they don't go out for a walk? Good job on the 23 miler!

Kim - Sounds like Mike wants to take it easy this summer. I don't blame him. When it's hot out, I don't really like training either. Is his achilles behaving?

Elizabeth - They didn't have any ankle braces so I'm going to see if I can order something online. Either that... or I'll have to get better at applying KT tape. Sorry about the full mailbox. It's empty now :)

AFM - I didn't end up going to see 'Brave' last night. All the shows started at 7 or 10PM and since I was at the gym until 7:30, the 10PM show was the only option. Too late for me though on a weeknight anyway.

I'm getting a treatment on my ankle tonight after my workout. In July, I'm back to the once a week workouts.

Oh my Mango Coconut Baked Oatmeal post made the top 9 on a food blogging site for today. If you buzzed me, thank-you :) You can see it here. It will be gone tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to the long weekend and just having some time to relax! Hope everyone is doing well! pixiedust: to anyone who needs it.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Dogs are happy as long as they get their food - breakfast and dinner - walking is just an extra. Of course, when they do not walk for a few days they are more crazy on their walk when they do get out. Take care of the ankle!

AFM - Took Scott to airport (Cheyenne not Denver) this morning, he will be in South Dakota for a couple of days. Got dog walk in before we left, now I need to get out for a bike ride before it gets too hot. Yesterday was pretty nice, had a little rain to cool things off, today will be back into the 90’sF.

Hi team!

Lynn - Safe travels to Scott! Is Denver a bigger airport than Cheyenne? I think the ankle is getting better. It didn't feel as "tender" during my treatment yesterday. I didn't do any running this week in the hopes of getting it better. I'll try a 5 and 10 miler this weekend and hopefully the darned thing will be better.

AFM - I did a workout yesterday with my chiro yesterday and we worked on my ankle afterward. More specifically - he worked on my ankle. He gave me a new exercise that also works the calf muscles.

I was on Pinterest yesterday and found that my Mango Coconut Baked Oatmeal recipe pic got pinned to Bob's Red Mill's pinterest board. That was a nice surprise! I thought it was pretty cool. Their board is here :)

I'm going for a massage tonight and that's about it! Hope everyone is staying cool!

Biggest Looser contest with Dad - Week 3 Results:

Dad wins by maintaining at 227, I gained a pound to go back up to 246.

So far, this week hasn't looked good either, but I'm hopeful. I've done a lot more walking that I've normally been doing this week. Sunday, Tuesday and Friday will be walk days this week and Running days are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. I've been working on heart rate zones while walking, to try and get my metabolism up to see if I can get my body to start burning more fat.

I've noticed that since I've had a different breakfast cereal this week, I don't feel as full as I normally do when I had the Cheerios type cereals (if we don't have a coupon, I get the Wal*mart brand). By the time lunch hits, I'm HUNGRY. I try to remember to take my snack carrots with me, but I've been out of the office most of this week and forget to grab them when I get into my work van.

Good Morning Team!

Vicky - Yes, Denver is a large airport, Cheyenne only caters to regional jets, it has 1 gate, 2 ticket counters (because 2 different airlines fly out of Cheyenne). It shares the runway with the Wyoming National Guard, so the runway area is large, but still just one runway. Hope the ankle is good for the weekend run.

Kipp - I swear by Kashi cereal with protein! Yes, it will cost more, but the protein really helps me not to get hungry before lunch time. Not all Kashi has protein, the “Lean” ones do. There is also some oatmeals with added protein which are great. I eat the Kashi cereal with Greek yogurt so I get even a bit more protein with my breakfast. Of non protein cereals, Cheerios was always my favorite.

AFM - Got in 20 miles on bike yesterday, it was a bit warm, but wind was not bad. Heading out earlier today (as soon as I get off computer) for cooler temps - I hope.

Hello team!

DH and I are signed up for the Tinkerbell!

Elizabeth - Yes, the full and tinkerbell were the same price except I don't need airfare with the Tinkerbell.

Lynn - I don't know of there are plans already, but I'm up for a team meet at DL.

Kipp - I also thought Brave was just good, it wasn't what I was expecting from a Pixar movie. I want to see Seeking a Friend... too, but don't know if I'll see it while it's in theatres. I can't wait to see The Hobbit either!

Vicky - Your oatmeal recipe looks yummy! I've added mango to my shopping list, hopefully I can try it this weekend.

AFM - We went to see Brave last weekend. I thought it was alright, but Pixar has made better movies.

I was supposed to go for a run last night, but decided not to which end up being sort of good. We have a subterranean parking garage at our apratment builidng and water was leaking on one of the cars. They thought it was coming from our apartment so a plumber came out last night to check. A couple guys were just here tearing holes in our kitchen to find the leak but it turns out it's coming from above us. So, they're in the other units trying to find the leak now.

I don't know when the work will be finished so I'm stuck at my apartment for the day. So, my plans for today are out the window. But, no big deal as I'd rather not have water leaking through my kitchen.

We have a 4 mile LR this weekend, so the plan is to do that Sat. morning. We might go to the movies this weekend to see Ted (we're both Family Guy fans).

Have a good day!
Emily

If you're going to see Seeking a Friend..., you might want to do it sooner than later. I checked my theater listing on Fandango and every place around here is only showing it a couple times a day. Meaning that it'll probably be gone next week or sooner with Spider-Man coming out.

AFM - I was going to walk today, but was working in the heat for most of today. I got home and was totally wiped out. We had a very short rainstorm right before I came home from work that cooled it down from 102 to 81.

Good Morning Team!

Emily - I also do not know if anything has been planned for DL, but we should try to get together. Hope the water leak problem gets solved soon!

Kipp - Those rainstorms are great for cooling! Be sure to drink plenty of water while working in the heat!

AFM - Got in 10 miles on the bike yesterday, I made the mistake of taking the gravel road to the end - 2 miles of washboard - my arms hurt so much and I was not motivated to ride much after that. I get to pick up Scott at the airport in a couple of hours. We will do a ride in spite of the heat, then watch the opening day of the Tour de France which is being taped as we speak.

Good morning team.

Well Mr. Nemo has his own routine that he has added to my stretching routine. He snuggles into me on each posture and offers up the belly to rub. I guess he dodn't want to miss an opportunity when someone is down at his level.

My rehab is going well and next week might be my last PT visit. I've gone from not being able to do some exercises at all to doing 3 sets of 30 and th PT cleared me for adding weight to the exercises.

Kim is Mike just planning on doing the half? You need to keep on him to do everything possible to keep his PF issue on the mend.

Vicky hope your ankle feels better, we don't need our leader laid up with an ouchie.

Is everyone melting in this heat wave?

Dave:hippie:

This week has been a hot one in Chicagoland for sure! Every day has been in the high 80s and 90s. Today's high was 94F.

I did my three training runs anyway, taking care to stay hydrated and run in the shade where possible. A friend on DailyMile said that these runs should be considered "Mental Training" and I would agree. You have to 'want' to train when the temps are in the 80s and above. Thursday was the highest temp for the week -- 104F. At 5:30am that morning, it was 77F and 'crazy humid' when I started out for a 4.4M run. Whew!

Tomorrow is my Long Run with my marathon training group. 9 Miles are planned. Temps should start at 70F and the forecast says it will be 80F by the time we are finished. The good thing about these Long Runs is that they are fully supported, with water/gatorade stations and food (and a pool!) at the end. I think tomorrow might be a good day to use the pool as my ice bath. LOL

My monthly mileage for June came out to 106! Yay! Next month will be a challenge for my training. I will be at a two-week conference in Indianapolis and when the daily schedule starting with hearings at 7:30am and ending around 10pm, finding time to run means running really early. Add to that, the fact that Indy's temps are in the 90s everyday it seems, is going to make it that much more 'fun'. I have mapped out a route along the river near my hotel so I hope this will work out.

I am looking forward to running a conference-sponsored 5K race along the river on July 8th with KippWade. The race starts at 6:30am so I hope the temps will be reasonable. The extended forecast shows only 91F for that day (Oooo! A cool spell!)

(This post was made using the new DISboard App for iOS. I am curious to see how this comes out)
