Hakuna Matada - Awaiting an Awesome April!

You have been getting hit with some rather nasty storms lately. Hope roof isn't damaged too much and the stang is just a minor repair.

Hi Team,

Just checking in today. Sitting here vegging out and having a margarita. I'm stoked about our team, and how everyone is keeping it moving despite the daily life challenges coming our way! Go Team!!! :cheer2::cheer2:
January is a long time away and I'm already excited about getting together for our team meets! Beth, you can't get out of this all together, we will have to at least meet up and say hi! (no more sitting next to each other and listening to Bingham talk and not knowing it)
This weekend will be my toughest racing so far, a 5K Friday, half Saturday, and another on Sunday. If I can complete them all, I will collect four medals and three shirts! The weather is supposed to be ify, so well see what happens!
Currently strong wind gusts, sun and strong thunderstorms trading off. Another crazy weather day, along with a docs appt for Robert and errands has meant no training for me. Ah well, the margarita is kicking in anyway!
Have a great day everyone! -Mike

Hi, everyone,

First question: who is NOT going to the half in January? All these posts are making me want to sign up too. Looking at local races to add to my calendar. You guys are the greatest motivator for me. :thumbsup2 I simply can't keep posting on here without scheduling a race soon.

We are heading to Ithaca, NY this weekend for a family event. DH and I decided to take our girls to Niagara Falls while we are up there. I'll see if I can get a run in at some point but right now, it looks as though I'll be spending a lot of time in the hotel's fitness room.

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Hi Team!

Regina - My one concern with ordering a shirt is that I have heard that the sizing can be weird on the shirt, so I'm worried I'd have a hard time getting one that fits me. I also don't like neon green, but I agree with what you said, I don't look great when I'm running either.

Saylan - Go for the 10k! I'm also thinking about a costume for either DL or WDW, I want something that looks cool but isn't annoying to run in. Maybe you could wear a WISH sticker? The logo could be printed on a lime green label. Didn't you try to make temporary tatoos? How did that work out? With so many team members going to DL and WDW it would be neat to have something for our team, too.

Now that we've signed up for the half and we're considering doing the Tinkerbell I probably won't be looking to do the relay. Unless we decide against the Tinkerbell than I'll have to think about it. I've never done 2 races in a weekend before, so I'd be really worried about injuring my self in the half or disappointing my relay partner.

Beth - WTG on tackling that hill!

Lynn - Have fun in Alaska!

Dave - Hope your roof damage isn't too bad.

AFM - Yesterday was my first work softball game. We won, although I didn't contribute much to the win since I only got on base once. I said I won't play second base anymore because I don't want to get hit with the ball again.

I'm being lazy today. Patrick still isn't feeling well and I was really tired all day so we skipped running. We'll have to get out tomorrow.

I agree that a poll would be a good way to figure out when to meet up. I've never been to Chef Mickey's and only been to Kona for dinner.

Has anyone made hotel ressies yet? How far in advance should I make them?

Have a good night,
Emily

Happy Hump Day, Everyone! :cool1:

Mary: I'm glad you can use the recipe! A couple of my best friends are violently lactose intolerant (one due to medication and the other just is). I'm the biggest cheese fan alive (prefer it over chocolate any day) but it's nice that I found something they can try. A lot of places around here have stopped carrying the lactose-free ice creams so my one frend was over the moon.

Regina: You're welcome. Enjoy the 'ice cream'. Congrats on tackling those hills. No way I could have done it. I know how you feel about how you look running. A lot of my family complimented me on looking 'well composed' after the race in my photos. I was just thinking 'really? cause I felt like the sweatiest woman around...' lol

Kim: Thanks. I guess if I decide to do Goofy (and there's still room) I should be able to switch. I figured going up in race cost was more likely doable than dropping down to a cheaper race.

And thanks for your rationale on the legs. I wasn't sure what the legs were like. If I do the relay, it'd be the day after the Donald so it'd be cool to do a different park (2nd leg) but your point about seeing your partner cross the line is also a strong selling point.

Dave: I hope the weather gets better!

Elizabeth: Niagara Falls isn't far from me! I hope you have a great time.

I'm for sure signed up for the Half because I want the 15th anniversary medal. Just think how cool that would be :rolleyes1... No pressure though. :rotfl:

I felt the same way posting here after the Princess. I need something to keep me motivated.

Mike: Wow that's a lot of races, I hope they go great and there's better weather than has been going on so far!

I'm excited too. I haven't met any WiSHers I knew yet (ran into a couple at the Princess who didn't return my greetings :sad1:). I can see a lot of you on Facebook but in person is just so much cooler! I want to throw out there a gathering at Boma mainly because I enjoyed their food. :P

Emily: I had a tutu over a running skirt for the Princess. That gave me place to keep stuff, and protection against tutu chafing. I'm probably going to try something different but still no idea.

I was going to make temp tattoos for WiSH and Team HM, but the temp tattoo paper was 18$ a letter-sized sheet! On top of all the other trip costs, I just couldn't justify it. There's only one store around that supplies it too. I'm looking around for online suppliers and if I find something reasonable (yes, I would argue 18$ a sheet isn't reasonable), I'll probably make some team tattoos. I wonder if anyone else would be interested?

I do make running headbands so I could make a green WiSH coloured headband and sew 'WiSH' into it. I guess if I ran as Tinkerbell, that would make the colour work well... Hmm going to have to put some thought into this!

I'm really worried about back-to-back as well. It's why I didn't register right away for the Goofy or the relay. It's terifying! Also, I'm still figuring out my reservations too! Hopefully the experienced January runners will have some thoughts. I think the 6-month mark is the normal booking time, with people updating as incentives are announced.

AFM: A new patch came out for WoW (I'm such a nerd) and last night was a late night trying to beat the new content. A friend of mine got really frustrated and 'ninja-logged' (basically logging out of the game suddenly without a word) so there's a lot of stress amongst my friends today. :sad2: Many of them were upset that he left us high and dry without a word. I know he was really upset too so I kind of was stuck in the middle. :headache:

I also did a workout yesterday! :thumbsup2 15 minutes run/walk and 15 minutes stairmaster. I was supposed to do a second set but holy 'poop' that just wasn't happening. I was toast. I mean, I was so winded my voice was hoarse and I was red long after I left my work out (about an hour?). Seriously! Gonna have to build up the intensity on that I think.

It was a big night in Canadian hockey last night so DBF was excited. First, Montreal winning and then Vancouver winning game 7 in over time against last year's champions? It was pretty impressive.

Our mold is brown/black now and nothing has changed. I'm not sure how much longer I should wait to avoid upsetting the super. He's really nice and I'm sure it's not his place to do such repairs and thus he's at the mercy of the required technicians but it's been weeks now... I want a bathroom that doesn't smell like a jungle, please.

I also have to start thinking about where we'll stay this year for marathon weekend. DBF really wants a deluxe (like AKL) and I can't remember what kind of incentives they had during that time last year (Princess was during the free Dining and I had a PIN) but hopefully there's somthing so I can avoid full price if we stay there.

Good morning everyone! I seem to have a bit of a stomach bug :( So I've been sticking to soups, applesauce, ginger ale, crackers, bagels etc. I did make it into the gym on Monday but felt so awful yesterday that I went to sleep at 8PM. I feel a lot better today but think I will still try and take things easy. If the rain holds off, I'll try to get out tonight for a quick run.

Saylan - One of the other WISH'ers Jeff made tattoos one year. He might have some ideas on where to get the materials from. I have a WISH hat (and a shirt that doesn't fit properly). For the marathon last year, that's all I wore. For reservations, if there's a resort I really want to book, I'll reserve it when the 2011 rates are released - that's usually around June or July. Otherwise, I'll wait until the deals are released. Last year, there was free dining, annual passholder rates and PIN codes released for marathon weekend. I haven't tried WoW before - I know a couple of people at work are into it but have never tried it myself.

Emily - Congrats on your softball win! I haven't made hotel reservations yet. I usually wait until the rates for the new year are released. Otherwise, I end up making a deposit at the highest rate for 2011. Which resort are you thinking of?

Elizabeth - Safe travels and have a fun weekend in Niagara Falls. I haven't been there in a while. I've crossed the border there a few times but haven't actually stopped in for a long time. You should totally come in January and do a race. It's an anniversary year for the half so they'll have a special medal. Just sayin... ;)

Mike - I know! I'm really excited about the meets too! I love going to the big WISH meet at POP but our smaller team meets will be a lot of fun too! I'll post a poll about them when I start the team thread for May. Any thoughts on which resort you'll be staying at?

Dave - We've been getting lots of rain up here too. No fun seeing grey skies and rain all the time. Hope your roof hasn't taken on too much damage. How did your mall walk go? (If I did my training in the mall, I'd come out with bags and bags of clothes  )

Regina - A cruise sounds awesome! Is it a Disney cruise or another cruise line? No idea on the WISH shirts. I think Mel usually looks after them so I'll send her a message and ask. The cupcakes were so-so, mostly because of the "frosting". It used whipped cream and didn't say anything about when to add the syrup. So I dumped everything in the bowl before I started mixing. Apparently with whipped cream, you're suppose to whip the cream and then add other stuff in. Oh well. I might take the leftover cream and make a tropical trifle.

Kim - Good job on the gym workouts! Much much more fun when you go with someone else :) How's the work going on the R/W intervals? The hills do get easier the more you work at them. Do the same hill a few more times and you'll see an improvement!

Mary - Safe travels and have a fun trip! I see lots of people on the subway with an iPad and keep wishing I could get one too! Hope you and DH are able to make it to the races in January!

Beth - Hope you had a safe flight back to NYC! Normally, I'm not much of a logo/team person myself. You should see at work how hard they have to work at getting me into a shirt for corporate events  I think for WISH I make an exception because I really like the team a lot. One thing about wearing the WISH shirts is that there are WISH'ers on course both days who'll snap a picture of you if they see the lime green shirts. So if you're into photos, it might not be bad. But I hear ya! Last year for the full, I wore a WISH cap and that's about it.

Lynn/Scott - Hope you crazy kids are having a blast on your cruise! We're looking forward to a report when you get back :wave2:

Ok I'd better get back to work! Have a great day everyone :wave2:

Hi Vicky, yes mall training walk went well. We walk there before the mall opens so it's basicly an indoor track. We did 5 miles at a brisk pace.

The mustang is fixed. It was a throttle body sensor. Friday we are fixing the roof, it's minor just a few shingles to replace. then next week breaks for the mustang.

The rest of the day will probably just be hanging around the house and getting chores done.

Have an awesome wed y'all.

Hi Everyone,
Currently I'm on the train from Chicago. I went on a scouting trip to figure my route to the airport next week forEverest. Costs 8.25 as opposed to 100.00 for the Limo. Took about 20 minutes longer. I'm using the saved money to go down a day early and pay for the extra night at All Star Sports. Yeah, an extra day at WDW!

Vicky- I'll probably stay at the POP again because its so close to the expo.

- Mike

Hi everyone! It's an insanely windy day here! I walked underground to my building after I was dropped off downtown. The wind was so heavy that it was hard to open the car door enough to get out. I can also hear the building creaking from the wind. Yikes! I can see the water in the bottle on my desk shaking a bit :)

Didn't get out for a run last night because of the rain but figured it was just as well since my stomach was feeling queasy still. I did some band work instead and made some breakfast bars instead. I've got a quick workout tonight and then heading out for dinner.

Anyone planning to watch the Royal wedding on TV Friday night/Saturday morning? I hadn't planned on it but I heard the actual ceremony starts around 6AM so I figure it will get me out of bed and up for a morning run :) Plus I had read somewhere that Kate's parents paid $400K+ for her dress. Wow! And I thought some of the dresses on that "Say Yes to the Dress" show were outrageous. Now I'm just curious to see what it looks like :)

Mike - That's a huge savings! I wish our city had a train to the airport.

Dave - Good job on the walk! Is your Mustang a convertible?

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Hi Team!

Kim- Great job on the workouts!

Mike- I’m excited for our team meets as well! Good luck racing this weekend! You’ll do great! Are you going to apply for half fanatics when you finish your races this weekend? I’m pretty sure that qualifies. I can’t believe it’s already time for Everest. For some reason, I thought it was in June last year.

Elizabeth- It helps to have a direction to keep you motivated! I know when I don’t have a race I’m signed up for, my motivation tends to be lower because I don’t have that end goal to hold myself accountable. If you do decide to run the half in January, it would be awesome to see you during our meet (whenever it ends up being)! :thumbsup2 Have a great trip to Ithaca this weekend!

Emily- My shirt fits ok, but is definitely shorter than I would like. I was happy to have mine at Wine and Dine last year because I received a lot of WISH support and I thought that was pretty awesome. All WISHers I encountered were very friendly. Of course, you could always make your own WISH shirt or sticker or get a WISH hat or whatever you’re most comfortable with. Congrats on your softball game! I hope Patrick is feeling better today. I have not made reservations yet and am, like Vicky, waiting to see the rates.

Saylan- That’s great your family thought you looked so well composed after your race. I bet you had a healthy glow! My face gets really red when I run and it stays red for quite awhile after I finish running. I’m sorry you didn’t have a good experience with other WISHers at the Princess. My experience with them at Wine and Dine was very friendly and supportive. I’m sure January will be a better experience for you. If you found something reasonably priced, I’d be interested in a Team HM tattoo. I think they're fun. Great job on your workout!

Vicky- Stomach bugs are terrible. I’m glad you’re feeling a little better. Yes, we’re looking at a 4 day cruise on the Disney Dream to the Bahamas. It leaves the same day of the marathon, so if we do book it, we’d pretty much be leaving to check in right after we finish the race. I haven’t decided if this is a good or crazy idea yet. We’ll see how it works out. Well, at least you know for next time on the cupcakes to whip the cream first. Ooh breakfast bars sound yummy! How did you make them? Gosh darn wind! Tell it to go away! I’m not watching the wedding. I don’t have any interest in the royal couple or their wedding day. I’ll be glad when it’s over and not all over the magazines and news.

Dave- I’m glad your mall training went well and your mustang is fixed. Good luck fixing your roof tomorrow. Be careful with all that crazy weather over there!

AFM, DH and I ran/walked yesterday. It’s definitely not as windy running on that back road and I love how quiet it is. The first half I had to talk myself into continuing, but once I was warmed up it was much easier and I felt like I finished strong. After we ran, we went and bought DH a couple more pairs of shorts for running and 2 long sleeve shirts since it is so windy around here. Of course they didn’t have any compression socks for me- so I’ll have to buy more online or drive back out to Eugene to the running stores. Oh, and I bought a maxi dress last night. It was pretty and it was actually the right length (which never happens because I’m short) so I decided I really wanted it. But of course, they didn’t have my size, so I had to order it online. I’m becoming quite the online shopper now that I’m in such a remote area. DH and I are hoping to get out for a run again today. I hope everyone is having a good day.

Good morning team.

I had a nice surprise when one of our team mates checked up on me to ensure I was safe after the storms.:cloud9:

My roof has lost some shingles which I have a friend coming over to repair and lots of power outages but all in all we were not hit to hard in this area. Some flooding and such but not bad enough to make cable news.

I'm doing a training walk this morning and then mowing the grass, helping my friend fix the roof and then going to work.

Sally is spending the weekend up here, she has a temp service job in Nashville but nothing full time yet. Still not sure what lay ahead for us.

Have an awesome friday y'all.

Dave:hippie:

:cheer2: Weekend Racers :cheer2:

Burn some pavement Team Hakuna Matada!! Good luck Mike, Gerry and Beth :thumbsup2

29/30 - I Challenge ( 5K on Friday night, Half Marathon on Saturday) Champaign/Urbana IL - Mike
30 - Nashville Half Marathon - Gerry
30 - Relvon Run/Walk for Women, NYC, NY - Beth

TGIF, Team! :cool1: Good luck to all the runners competing this weekend!

Vicky: Yeah, I think I'm going to look again for materials for tattoos. We can make some team HM ones and make all the other teams jealous!

I'm still waiting to ask for time off and then I'll bring up the topic of what resort with DBF. He seemed ok with CBR, it's just he LOVED AKL when we went to Boma. :rotfl: Would have to be a significant discount to afford that.

I didn't get up for the wedding but I looked up the dress and I dunno, not as impressed as I hoped to be. It's not my style, I guess (I'm very picky!). She did look lovely though.

If you ever want to try WoW, give me a hollar. I've got tons of free 10-day trial codes. :thumbsup2

Regina: Yeah, January will be better cause I'll have my team there. I never was able to connect with Elizabeth but I think we were the only two running. I supposse the other WiSHer maybe didn't hear me right or was confused. :confused3

I have the same red-face thing usually too. I think it was cause I didn't get as hot as I normally do. Either way, they all thought it was a breeze, so I get extra points for not dropping dead.

I'll look into the materials again for HM tattoos. I really would like to make something for the team!

Grats on the nice dress. It's always nice when you find something that just works so well for you.

AFM: Well, I went to a candidate debate last night. It was very enlightening and I think I have decision made for voting on Monday. I'm really excited that the NDP are having such a strong support.

DBF had some bad luck at the gym and his workout clothes are covered in someone's ill-disposed gum. :headache: We've been working on ixing it for a few days. Not fun.

Monday is our 3-year anniversary so this weekend we'll be celebrating, I suspect. He likes to keep things a surprise. I've got one for him too: I'm getting my hair done tomorrow morning and getting highlights for the first time ever! We'll see if he notices.

I'm now back to seriously considering the Warrior Dash. Facebook keeps asking me if I'm a Warrior and watching the video again makes me want to do it. I'm nervous I can't do some of the challenges but it looks like a lot of fun!
