Okay,

We leave in two days and I have a quick (maybe stupid) question. Do the staterooms have hairdryers and does the ship allow smoking all over the place, or is it restricted to certain areas? Are people allowed to smoke in staterooms? I am not a smoker, just curious.

Hairdryers in all staterooms.

Smoking not allowed in staterooms, but ok on private verandahs and all open deck areas. Also, many of the nightclub areas are smoking allowed. Hope this helps!! :)

The staterooms do have hairdryers, not very powerful ones. Smoking is not permitted in any stateroom. You can smoke in certain lounges, open decks and balconies.

Maybe some day DCL will have a "SMOKE FREE" cruise!!

There's no smoking allowed by the Mickey pool, but smoking is allowed on all other open decks.

There are very few interior areas where smoking is allowed.

There is a smoking section across the entire back of Rockin' Bar D. I really don't blame smokers for smoking there, but the ventilation is not good, so the smoke drifts throughout the entire room -- even during family shows and daytime events. That's really my only complaint about smoke on the Disney Magic.

DCL does not allow smoking in any staterooms. The other cruise lines allow smoking in every stateroom -- you don't know if you'll be checking into a room previously occupied by chain smokers. For this reason, we've booked another Disney cruise rather than an Alaska cruise on another line.

hairdryers aren't powerful, so should I take my own hairdryer? Are the plug-ins the same as in your house? Dumb question, but I need to know. Thanks

If you just want to dry your hair it is ok but if you style your hair by blow drying it bring your own, or you will look like a Seinfeld episode!!!LOL:)

The hair dryers in the bathrooms WILL dry your hair, but are useless for styling it. The heat is not concentrated enough...it just blows a wide burst of warm air. I thought I was being so smart by bringing my own. But the only plug-in in the bathroom was marked for "shavers" and my own dryer did not work in it. It must have been the outlet because my dryer worked fine once we were off the ship. I look around the whole room for another outlet and could not find one.

I had pretty miserable looking hair the whole time...if you have long hair that you can pull back, you're lucky.

There is a outlet behind the tv. We brought a extension cord(thanks to this board!) and plugged in our hairdryer there and used the mirror over the dresser! This also freed up the bath rooms for others.

there are plugs on the "desk" (across from the sofa/bunk beds). We plugged in both hair dryers and curling irons. Do bring an extension cord though because it will not accept the "three-prong" plugs most of these appliances have.

Take your own hairdryer and an extension cord!!!

I didn't think I needed my own dryer, because I have fine, thin hair. It's about shoulder length. I have NEVER had a problem with hotel hair dryers, but the DCL one was awful, even for my stupid fine hair. I can't remember the last time I travelled with a blow dryer (maybe in the 80s when I had long permed hair?) but I will take one on our next Disney cruise!
