We just got back from our monthly visit to USO and had a great time!!! We arrived yesterday about noon and had to satisfy the kids first so we all rode Jimmy Neutron before heading over to the Mummy. Luckily, my kids really like that Mummy cartoon in the family waiting area so they sat there and watched it while my husband and I took turns riding. I got to sit in the front row for the first time and really loved it. I also had the courage to keep my arms up for the entire ride and loved it even more!!!
After we had a great dinner at Margaritaville (my fav place to go;), kids love the people on stilts making balloon hats), we went to IOA for the evening, or what we thought was going to be the evening. Then the rain started. We had just come off of Cat in the Hat when it began. When we went on One fish, Two fish, the guy running the ride said "It's raining and you're going to get wet" instead of the part where they usually say "prepare to get wet". I know he was making fun of us and sure enough while we were on it started pouring!!! After we got off we went into a store and got some ponchos because of course we forgot to bring ours. Oh yeah, why is it always so hard to get into one of those stores while it is raining? I mean, I understand people want to get out of the rain, but get out of the doorway and move completely in the store so others can come in too! We were able to ride Storm Force and then we rode Spiderman before heading back over to Universal Studios. I am so excited that my daughter is finally tall enough to ride Spiderman!! On our way back over I heard that the only thing that was still open at IOA was Cat in the Hat and Spiderman because of the rain.
Well, we rode Jimmy again and MIB and played at Barney's Playground and then headed back over to the holy grail of all rides for one more ride for the evening.
Today was a much better day (and hotter), so we were able to make our usual circuit with no problems. I rode the Woody Woodpecker coaster 3 times back to back with my daughter because there was no line and she loves that ride. She even held her hands up for it! I got to ride the Mummy first thing this morning twice and once again before we left. Parents, really, show your kids the Mummy cartoon, mine were mad when they had to leave! I think it had just come back up from being broke when I rode it again because when I looked at the photos there were a bunch of empty cars before mine on the screens. Also, I noticed a couple of the effects weren't working when I rode it again. The mummy didn't jump out of his casket at the beginning for one.
I love riding with people who have never rode before. There was a group of teenage boys behind me on my 3rd ride today that were acting all cool and saying it was going to be nothing when the ride started and they were screaming like babies when the coaster part was happening. I'm the only person in my car everytime today and yesterday that had their arms up. I keep telling my husband to put his up but he says that second drop always gets him. I can't believe how much I love this ride and I know I could easily ride it 5 times in a row without stopping. Now, what is funny is that the first time I rode it, I barely could walk when I got off and wasn't sure I would ride it again. Now, I hear myself screaming along with the lines "Death is only the beginning!!!"
Anyway, had a great weekend and we are all looking forward to next month!

Sounds like you guys had a blast. I can only hope that we have that much fun in December! Thanks for sharing!

Wow,
Thanks for the trip report. Sounds like you guys had a blast. We'll be arriving in Orlando on 8/15 for three glorious weeks -- can't wait to ride the Mummy. When we last visited in May it had just closed for the official "Grand Opening" and I was so disappointed. Nothing will keep me away this time.

monthly trips, soon moving to Orlando.......

I WISH I WERE YOU!!

Have you ridden Kraken @ Sea World? Compare Mummy to Kraken for me. Which is more fun? When we went in early June,
Mummy had a 60-90 min wait. When it finally went down to 20 mins DD(13) and I jumped in line only to be disappointed to learn they were having tech difficulties. After waiting at least 45 mins, we had to back out and skip the ride. We were so disappointed. Kraken is now my all time favorite but can't wait to ride Mummy and compare the two!!

Tell us more about the "second drop"..... and why couldn't you hardly walk afterwards? :D

sounds great. I'm glad you didn't let the rain dampen the trip.

The second drop is great because you don't expect it. Basically, for those that haven't rode it, you think the ride is over, then the ceiling catches on fire and you are looking up and then you start to drop. It isn't you start moving forward then drop, you just drop, and drop fast. Then there's the mist that sprays you face at the same time and I guess it's the combination of those things that make that drop unexpected. It's also in the second drop that your picture gets taken. So, look to the right when you start falling and say cheese! I keep telling myself i'm going to try to bring a sign and hold it up at that part that says "Hi Mom!" or something like that, but I don't think it would work because I would probably drop it if it was paper and if it was cardboard, I don't see how I could get it on the ride.
My personal favorite part is the launch. I just love how it feels when you go uphill so fast and everyone around me is screaming and then that quick fall.
I had a hard time walking after the first time I rode it because I hardly ever ride coasters and I didn't expect it to be so fast. The launch was really fast and the coaster part is really fast. I just was a little shook up that's all. The second time around it wasn't that bad, now I can ride it over and over and just want more!

I live in south Georgia. It's about a 3 hour drive.
We have been planning the move for 5 years. Only 7 more months!!!!:Pinkbounc :bounce:

Sounds like fun, I love THE MUMMY ....:)

Are they still enforcing the rule NOTHING being allowed on the ride like purses, backpacks or souvenirs?? Have they enlarged the locker area any??

I read on post one here not too long ago that said you can take a small fanny pack on with you if you could turn it to the side, but I saw them turn away people all weekend long that were trying to take things on. I wouldn't even take my cell phone on if it was in my pocket because I believe there is just too much chance of it getting broken. I had on a rain poncho Saturday night and they told me to take it off and sit on it. The locker area still looks the same size since May. I haven't had to use it at all because we leave everything in our strollers outside before we get on.

I wish I could compare it for you, but I haven't rode Kraken. I am such a coaster chicken that I'm too scared to ride anything with loops. I just can't handle the thought of going upside down. One day I will do it though. I keep telling myself that. I'm thinking of starting out slow with the Hulk:p .

Hip packs are okay, and that's it. Purses, backpacks, squueze bottles, drink bottles, etc, must go in the lockers.

The allowing of hip packs has made things much easier on both the Mummy crew and the guests. ::yes::

Mummy is not a big coaster like Kraken. It's an indoor coaster and the highest drop is only 25 feet. No inversions. It's half coaster/half dark ride, so if you get on the ride expecting a full-fledged coaster you'll be disappointed.

Kraken is more like the Hulk or Montu. Mummy is more like Space Mt. or Rockin Rollercoaster.

Hey--Thanks everyone for the info on Mummy. Now that I know it's more like RNR, I really regret missing it. RNR is my favorite
ride next to Kraken. It's a kick in the seat when you take off!! I
love it!! Maybe I'll win the TN Lottery and can afford to take the family down before too long.....oh yea.....ya gotta play to win! Opps! That could be a problem then!
