Gymboree - I don't get it!

I am not trying to start a fight but please tell me you are exagerating when you say you husban "forbade" you to dress your son in snap pants. I could dress my kids in pantaloons and I don't think he have noticed. I find it sad that we have to have our kids grow up so fast that we can't even dress them in baby clothes-snaps are so diapers can come off and on easier, I really hope he did some diapering after he told you how to dress your son!

I don't get the any brand name thing. My kids wore what they wore, thrift stores, whatever. They will have their whole lives to dress in designer clothes.

He did plenty of diapering in his days. Part of the reason for the snap business is he could never get the snaps right. :rotfl2: Ds was potty trained early. After having three girls we had our fill of pastels and such. I had planned on having all the pastel and cutsie clothes but after he got his "personality" it just wasn't him. kwim. I guess I should have stated that dh refused to dress ds in snap clothes when he dressed him. I dressed him how I wanted.
Ds is more of a gap, children's place kid.

hmmm..am i the only one who doesnt see a correlation between putting kids in jeans and polo shirts and making them grow up too quick:confused3

i really dont think that not wanting your sons to wear bears and crocodiles means they will be bypassing their childhood. give me a break, some of us just dont think those clothes are cute:confused3

I totally agree with you. My ds just turned 4 and for the last 2 years he has wanted a suit jacket.

Our dd's are 10 and 3. I've always loved Gymbo. This year our older dd has changed her tastes more to Limited Too and Gap. That's okay, I still have years of Gymbo for our 3 yr old. Does anyone else have the Gymbo Visa card? You get Gymbo coupons in $10 increments for purchases charged on the card, plus I get 5% off any Gymbo purchase. I've got $150.00 worth of Gymbo coupons I'm waiting to redeem later this fall.

I understand what those posters with boys are saying. My friends say the same thing.

fine, but no snap pants? what does that make them grow up wimpy?

I have a boy, don't like gymboree. I too think it all looks baby-ish. I have bought 1 thing there in almost 6 years, it was a sweater jacket and I LOVE it! They have had them the past 3 seasons and they are all so cute! Beyond that I can't find a thing. Although I think their newest line might be cute, I Just quickly glanced, but not for an almost 6 year old.

I LOVE the children's place and gap (clearance rack only). I also like old navy.

I guess I should have kept dh snap pants dislike to myself. Actually those who have smaller than average children may relate. ds is 4 and could still where snap pants. Although I would like to keep him a baby for ever, going to preschool sporting the snap pants may cause an issue.
To give you an idea of just how small he is, last week he found a onesie dd used for her dolls and he put it on. It was size 6-9 months and if fit.
I disagree with the fact that if we don't use snap pants on our 1 yo that we are making him grow up too quick. Just a personal preference. We just don't like snaps.

Then you don't. Simple don't buy them. :sad2: But I didn't want my then 2 yo DS dressing like my 9 yo does now.

Some of us like our kids to look cutesy. I did. He wasn't whimpy, he looked like a toddler not a toddler trying to look like a middle schooler.

Thats why there are different styles. One style isn't for everyone, obviously.

thats my point. some of us just dont care for the style. but its funny that everyone that does, including yourself has to imply that because we dont care for their clothes that our children are dressing too old for their age. its bizarre actually. cant you just like their clothes without putting others down?

who said that? guess i missed that:confused3
i did see where someone said they didnt like snap pants, but wimpy? youre just putting words in peoples mouths:confused3

Gymbo is having a sale right ow. I looked and you can get tops for as low as $6.49 and shorts as low as $7.49, so for $14, you could have a super nice outfit that will last. I dont think that is too expensive. Plus if you have gymbucks, its even less.

I'm not putting others down. I'm saying I used to buy my sons clothes at Gymboree because I liked him to look cutesy not like a middle schooler.

If thats your cup of tea for your toddler so be it.

I HATE SNAP PANTS !!!!! I use to work in a DayCare when I was in college. Let me tell you when it's time to change the diaper those snaps are a PAIN!!! Wwhen I had my DD's I swore never to put snap pants (unless it's a TDF Outfit) I do have to say alot of girl outfit no longer come w/snaps.

I think they have absolutely adorable baby things (girls and boys) and girl things, but I don't usually like much of the older boy stuff at all. It all seems pretty generic and some of it is tacky, imo.

Sometimes they run specials and say, for example, if you buy $50 worth of stuff, they send you $25 in "gymbucks" to be used at a later date.

:thumbsup2

I'm going to agree with the "boy items are too babyish" group. DS3 is no longer a baby or a toddler, so I don't dress him like one. He's a "big boy," and he loves clothes!!

I think the main difference among moms of boys here is their personal styles. I consider myself a young, hip mommy, so DS wears hip, trendy clothes. If he wore his clothes for longer than a year, I would buy more classic, mix and match items, but since he fits the clothes for about the length of the trend, it's not a big deal for us. For example, I fell in love with the little rock star line :rockband: at Gap a couple years back, so we bought the entire load (except for a couple of jackets, I think). We try to wait until Friends and Family and use our coupons, too!! Of course, now that he has his own mind (and makes it heard) he picks out the flashing lights Cars tees and those talking shirts at Target, too. I will admit, though, Gap has put out some very fashionably questionable items in the recent seasons.

If I was a more traditional, classic mom, I may like Gymboree boy clothes.

I also agree that the girls' clothes are pretty darn adorable!! We bought my DNiece6 about 3/4 of the horse line last year because she's started to take an interest in our horses and riding. The little girlie accessories are waaay too cute!! :lovestruc The dresses...where's the gushing, squealing, oh-so-cute smilie?!?!

P.S. I love that you're thinking resale, Madge!! I'm with ya! I'm able to resell Gap for pretty close to retail. Lots of young mommies at JBF. :thumbsup2

I just can not justify spending more on my 1 and 4 year olds clothes than I spend on my own. Plus they grow out of them in like 5 minutes or trash it. I don't want to hover over my kids not to spill or play to rough because I spent $50 on an outfit.

I haven't read the whole thread but my favorite thing about Gymboree is that they actually look like clothes for children and like not mini-adult clothing. I've never liked that approach for either girls or boys - my kids will be adults soon enough. Plus I think the fabrics are of pretty decent quality, etc.

I never stated that polos and jeans were inappropriate little boys clothes! :confused3 My problem (for my children only) is with t-shirts with inappropriate slogans on them! I won't allow it.

I don't think this thread was meant to be a fight between Gymbo lovers and haters! Fashion is a matter of personal taste! What a boring world it would be if we all wore the same thing!

Where else do you shop? I may be missing a great store. I love Lands End, Gap, and Gymbo for my young sons!

I swear by gymboree's boys socks and underwear. They are made well and last! Also, their solid colored sweatpants (the traditional ones) are too a great buy! My son loves their pajamas (the winter ones) too. I always wait to use discounts and gym bucks or pick up those items when on sale. My son is 10 but small for his age.
