Guilt and the Guilty Pleasure – A Single Mom’s April 2011 PTR for a Surprise Birthday

The trip is getting closer and closer! I’m going to bang out the rest of my packing lists in the next 3 posts so that I can get back to writing fun stuff! Well, I mean, lists are a blast for me, but I don’t know about you guys :rotfl2:

Since we were last talking about the overnight bag, here is a quick, related list:

Car Stuff:

paper towels

Clorox wipes

Windex wipes
(Man, that’s a lot of wipes! Anyone who has taken a road trip knows the importance of cleaning up spills with a quickness! My grandma used to always have paper towels in her car and a bottle of Windex when we took trips with her. I’m so glad they invented Windex wipes! Kids love to put their cute, little, sticky fingers all over the windows!)

trash bags (I really am not a neat freak, but on a 13 hour road trip, you have to clean as you go! At least, I do! If we didn’t throw out the stuff at every gas station, we’d have trash up to our ears by the time we got to Orlando! )

hand sanitizer (I said I wasn’t a neak freak. I never said I wasn’t a germaphobe! :rolleyes1 )

GPS (I may or may not get a stand alone GPS unit because I have a decent GPS app on my phone…BUT on our last trip, it had us going around in circles at times and once it even guided us to the CM entrance of HS instead of the main entrance! The CM at the gate said it happened all of the time and he smiled as he told us how to get to the correct entrance, but I was so embarrassed  My GPS in my hometown hasn’t been so great recently either, which is why I’ve been entertaining getting a GPS. It would be a splurge and right now, a new camera trumps a GPS. Maybe I’ll just pay more attention to the signs in WDW this time  )

travel games and toys (gotta keep the kids occupied!)

coloring books and colored pencils (seriously, the kids have to stay occupied or they will drive me nuts! :rotfl: )

travel journals (I’m hoping the kids will journal about their road trip down and back, but we’ll see)

flashlights (for reading and drawing, NOT to flash at Mommy while I’m driving! )

cooler (filled with frozen water bottles, cold water bottles, sodas and snacks)

powdered drink mixes (who wants to drink plain water all day?)

pillows and blankets (my babies have to be comfy when they take that inevitable car nap – otherwise they will be cranky and start bugging me and each other! :lmao: )

cell phone and car charger (I shouldn’t even list “cell phone”. When is my cell phone ever more than 2 feet away from me? :rotfl2: )

Bluetooth headset and car charger (actually, I have to buy a new Bluetooth because I don’t have one for this cell phone since I rarely use it to make phone calls! :rolleyes2 )

iPods and car chargers (I just realized I’ll have a lot of car chargers!)

first aid kit (a real one. One that I will hopefully not have to use!)

wallet (driver’s license [duh, Erin! LOL], car insurance card, health insurance cards, AAA card, hotel confirmation, rental car confirmation, cash for gas and snacks/meals on the road)

So that’s it! Now I’m about to list my main packing list in the next post, so… just a suggestion… if you’re reading this in one sitting, maybe you’ll want to take a potty break, grab a cup of coffee and get ready for a long read because this one is a doozy! :lmao:

Thank you guys for indulging me by being willing to suffer through another one of my lists :goodvibes I don’t consider myself a “Disney Expert” or an "Authority of All Things to be Packed” by any means :lmao: but this PTR has really helped me to sort out all of the things that are running around in my head. So, instead of talking to myself and looking like a crazy-control-freak-uber-planner, I can talk to you guys about it! Thank you for understanding my Type A ways!

Now, let’s get on with it! I have separated my Main Packing List into 3 categories: Clothes & Accessories, Toiletries and Other Items. Also, I want to give credit to mousesavers.com for this packing list that I was able to cross reference with my own packing list to be sure I wasn’t forgetting anything. Surprisingly, even though I am a control-freak-uber-planner (notice how I left out “crazy”?), there were a few things on there that I hadn’t thought of! That list has EV-ER-Y-THING! Well, I did have a couple of things on there that it didn’t have, such as the Clorox wipes and Windex Wipes LOL Anyway, here is what I plan to pack for my family:

Clothes & Accessories:

shirts

shorts

pants

PJs

underwear

socks

bras

belts

shoes
(one pair each – other than the ones we are wearing)

sandals

hair bands

hats

watches

sunglasses

swim suits

Minnie’s princess dress and shoes
(No costume for Chip for Pirate’s League. I found a way to get Chip to look at PL with me and he didn’t think that people should dress up for it – but he did think PL was cool! :thumbsup2 )

Toiletries:

q-tips

sunscreen

make up
(just lip gloss, eyeliner, mascara… nothing fancy ;) )

make up remover

nail polish

nail polish remover

tampons
(shouldn’t need them, but if my aunt does show up on my vacation, I’ll be mad! :headache: :rotfl: )

razor

nail files and nail clipper

Kleenex

Other Items:

book bags
(to use as day bags in the parks)

ponchos (less than $1 at Wal-Mart or over $10 in WDW? Hmm… )

Ziploc bags

insect repellant lotion

sewing kit

pennies and quarters

M&Ms and Mentos tubes

envelopes for tips

glow sticks and necklaces

costume jewelry ring
(so Chip can propose to one of the Stepsisters :lmao: )

cake container (to take left over birthday cake back to the room)

dish soap towels (to wash out refillable mugs)

laundry soap (I refuse to do a load of laundry on vacay, but if I absolutely need to wash something, I’ll wash it in the sink and hang it up to dry or dry it with the hairdryer :thumbsup2 )

stain remover

fabric softener sheets
(I’ll explain more in a minute)

gum

Listerine Pocket Packs
(minty freshness!)

LGMH

wrapped presents

OK, you might have noticed quite a few things missing from this list like toothpaste, deodorant, hair brushes and stuff like that. No, we DO have good hygiene! I just didn’t include them because those things and many others are already on my Overnight Bag list. No need to list things twice ;) Also, you may wonder why fabric softener sheets are on there after I just vowed not to do a load of laundry. Well, when we arrive at our resort, the first thing I do is completely unpack. After all of our suitcases are empty, one suitcase becomes the dirty laundry suitcase. I put a fabric softener sheet in that bag so it doesn’t get stinky from the dirty clothes. Then I put our dirty clothes from our overnight bag in there. Every night after coming back from the parks, dirty clothes go in there, so it’s like we’re packing as we go! Once one suitcase gets filled up, we make another dirty clothes suitcase and put a fabric softener sheet in that one too. I never put wet clothes in the dirty clothes suitcases, so they never really get stinky :lmao: but the fabric softener still helps. By the end of our trip, all of our suitcases either have dirty clothes in them or souvenirs, so there is very little left to pack! :thumbsup2

OK! We’re in the home stretch! Only one more packing list to go and it’s the one I’m looking forward to the most: The Day Bag Packing List!

So I have decided that I am going to pack a day bag for each of us because on our past two trips, I felt like a pack mule! On our first trip in 2008, I got one of those Buxton Organizers that were advertized on TV all of the time. What a piece of cr@p! That is probably why they aren’t advertized on TV anymore LOL but that is also what I get for buying something “As Seen on TV” :lmao: I mean, the idea was good and it did help with organizing stuff, but it was poorly made and it was falling apart at the seams within 2 days! So I had to get a little over-the-shoulder messenger type book bag from Animal Kingdom. I can’t remember how much it cost, but I remember thinking it was too expensive! At least it was a well made bag and I was able to use it for the rest of that trip as well as the 2009 trip. I would bring it with me again, but I would prefer something bigger so that I could fit more water bottles in it and something that I could wear on both shoulders so that I could distribute the weight instead of switching from one shoulder to the other. I’m getting book bags for all three of us because the kids are both big enough to carry their own stuff and it shouldn’t be too much stuff anyway. I’m looking at some hiker type backpacks on the LL Bean website and waiting to see if they go on sale over the next few weeks, but if anyone else has any real life suggestions on a good backpack for adults and kids that is fairly lightweight and durable, I am open to suggestions! :thumbsup2 So here is what I’ll be packing in our day bags, and I will also list the things that I’ll carry just in my day bag.

Day Bag – Stuff the Kids and I Will Have:

2 water bottles

powdered drink mixes

park maps and times guides

cameras and memory cards
(I haven’t decided yet if I am going to get
the kids inexpensive digital cameras or get them a few disposable cameras. The way I figure it, disposable cameras are going to cost as much as digital in the long run because the film will still have to be developed. I also have a confession to make – I never developed the film from the kids’ disposable cameras from our 2008 trip  OK, I guess I just decided. They are getting inexpensive digital cameras! Ooh! That will be something good to put in the kids’ goodies bags for the road trip!)

cell phones (I think I may have mentioned that Chip has a cell phone on his father’s plan. Minnie wants one too. I’m not really all for that, but that is a discussion for another time and place. The good thing about them having cell phones is that if [God forbid] we get separated at the park, we’ll have a way to contact one another. I actually have a story about getting separated too, but that is again something for another post)

sunglasses

autograph books, passports and pens
(actually, I’ll only have some spare pens in my bag; the kids will be the only ones with the books in their bags)

ponchos

lip balm

Kleenex

hand sanitizer

pennies and quarters

M&M and Mentos tubes

Day Bag
– Stuff I Will Have:

wallet

park tickets

meal confirmation numbers
(also a soft copy in my phone)

spare camera batteries

first aid supplies
(from the overnight bag)

glow sticks and glow necklaces

costume jewelry ring

postcards and stamps

That is about it! Nice and light for all of us. Also, the load is distributed between us so that I have the most stuff, but the kids also have their essentials. I really hope that they will be able to keep up with all of their stuff, but I will put labels on some things, just in case.

This is getting so exciting and the trip is becoming more real to me every day :goodvibes

These lists look great!! :thumbsup2 Kudos on figuring out a way to figure out if your ds would need a costume for PL~ sneaky sneaky, lol.

One thing I would suggest that we found really helpful was an over the door shoe organizer for all of our toiletries. There isn't a lot of counter space for all of those toothbrushes, combs, face wash, etc. and the clear pockets on the shoe organizer were perfect for keeping our stuff handy without cluttering up the small space. Otherwise I think your lists all look great! :goodvibes

Sometimes it feels to me that if I just let go of certain things, things just fall into place. On my last post about the Day Bags, I mentioned that Chip had a cell phone on his father’s plan. He first got it about a year and a half ago. Really, I didn’t think that he needed a cell phone, or was old enough for one. I mean, who was he going to call? But I also figured that it was good for him to have one, if only for emergency purposes. The thing was, there are no parental controls (that I know of) that can block certain times of day to make or receive calls/texts or restrictions on certain websites etc, so I was concerned about those things as well. Really, before Chip got that phone, I was looking into a prepaid phone for kids that allows parents to set parameters for all of that stuff – you can only allow calls to go to and come from certain numbers, block texting, restrict spending on the phone on things like games and set time limits for when the kids can use the phone. Also, a huge selling point was that there was GPS tracking on the phone, so parents could locate their kids just by going on the website. That was the phone that I thought was appropriate for kids Chip’s and Minnie’s ages. You all may have heard of it – the company is called Kajeet. There are a lot of start up costs, though, but I thought it was worth it. I discussed this with my ex-husband and he never committed to helping me pay for the phones. Next thing I know, Chip comes home one day with a cell phone! Needless to say, Minnie was extremely upset that she didn’t get one too. I was also ticked because my ex and I never finished discussing the matter of even getting the kids cell phones. Please excuse how this might be coming off in this post, because I have been in an ex-husband bashing type of mood for the last few weeks, so it is bound to show through on this post :rotfl: Anyway, it turns out that Chip’s cell phone is on a plan with not only his dad, but his dad’s GF and her 2 kids! It was the GF’s plan! Well, I didn’t let it bother me too much because I figured, I’m not the one footing the bill for Chip’s phone, so it is what it is. But… Chips phone was constantly getting cut off for non-payment. What’s worse is that my ex wouldn’t even warn Chip that it was about to get cut off or that it had been cut off. The only way Chip found out that it was disconnected was if he tried to make a call and it didn’t go through – or if I tried to text him and got that “non-deliverable” message back. What is the point of having a cell phone if there is no guarantee that it will be on? Now, I’m trying not to be too judgmental here, because there have been times in the past where I have gotten behind on bills. It can happen to anyone and usually does at one point or another. But this was happening with Chip’s cell phone constantly. Also, I knew that if the service was always getting disconnected due to non-pay, there was no way Minnie was going to get a phone on that plan. So what to do?

Well, I was going to just go ahead and get both of the kids Kajeet phones. They are on the Sprint backbone, and my phone happens to be a Sprint phone, so I knew I was going to be happy with the service. Wouldn’t you know it, a Sprint representative called me today with a special offer because I am a “Premier” member. Well, I know what “Premier” means – it means that I am one of the suckers who buys the phone with the latest technology as soon as it hits the stores! :lmao: So I braced myself for the sales pitch for something that I knew I didn’t need, but she was actually calling to see if I wanted to add another line to my plan! :) What?!? Perfect timing! Then again, I figured it would cost an arm and a leg because I was going to be adding a whole new phone to my plan which already has unlimited data, unlimited texts etc – oh, and 450 minutes a month that I never even come close to using. I think the most amount of minutes I’ve used since I got my newest phone was about 200 in a month :rolleyes1 Well, she actually offered me a pretty good deal to add that second line to my plan. What made all the difference was that she told me that this phone also had GPS tracking and all of the same parental controls as the Kajeet phone. I was sold at that point on getting a phone for Minnie! Then I asked how much it would be to add a third line for Chip and it wasn’t that much more. It also helps that I get a pretty hefty discount from my employer, but even without that discount, it still would have been a good deal. So she kept trying to close the sale on me, but I knew she could do better ;) That is the benefit of working in sales for so long – and I wasn’t even that great of a sales person! LOL So I held out until I got the two phones for free (with Kajeet, I would have had to pay for the phones, so that saved me a couple of hundred dollars), free activation and free shipping. I know that they offer all of that to all customers who hesitate to commit – but it is still a small victory :thumbsup2 She did try to upsell me on screen protectors and things like that, but I knew I could get those things at Target for much much less that getting them from Sprint. So I am super happy about this!

I was going to wait to tell the kids about the phones until they came in the mail, but I couldn’t keep it a secret. Also, I wanted to be sure that Minnie understood the rules and responsibilities of having a cell phone. I’m going to drill those rules into her until the phones get here. Also, I’ll have to read up on how to set the parental controls so that I can do it the minute the phones get here because I know that they will be itching to use them as soon as they see them LOL Minnie was so excited when I told her and she couldn’t stop hugging me and telling me that she loves me :lovestruc When I told Chip, his first question was, “Why?” but sadly, he realized why before I could even explain anything :( Then he started telling me repeatedly that he loves me  I feel a little conflicted because I know that this is something his dad was providing for him, but at the same time, I feel like I had to do this. I mean, I feel a little controlling by basically telling Chip that this will be his main cell phone, but it is better than feeling helpless when he tells me that his current cell phone is off. I have come to understand over the past two years that I cannot count on child support and I have had to find ways to become less dependent on my ex-husband. I have had to actively distance myself from him financially. In this particular situation, I know that if something should happen between him and his current GF, Chip’s phone will be disconnected right away. Or if they continue to not pay the bill, their cell provider will cancel the contract and cut off all of the phones. I would rather be prepared now than to be stuck in a situation that causes me to have to scramble for a solution, hurriedly add Chip to my cell plan and not get a good deal like this one.

So… what does all of this drama and depressing talk have to do with Disney??? Oddly enough, more drama and depressing talk! I’m just going to spit this out because I don’t like talking about it: Both of my kids have gotten lost in WDW :sad2: On the last night of our 2008 trip, Chip, Minnie and I were in MK right before MVMCP. We didn’t have tickets to go, and I hadn’t gotten a chance to take pictures of Cinderella’s Castle all lit up, so I stopped on the walkway from Tomorrowland to take this picture:

When I looked at this picture I hated it because it was a terrible shot, but then I hated this picture because I realized I was too distracted by taking it to notice that Chip kept walking and was no where around us when I looked back. I won’t get into how frantic I was because it makes me physically ill to think about it to this day. It was a Friday night, just before 7pm when MVMCP was about to start so it was beyond crowded in there. Ugh, it is harder to type this than I thought. Let me just say that after about 30 minutes that felt like 30,000 years, a CM contacted the CM that was helping me find Chip and said they were headed to the baby care center. I wanted to run there! Luckily, we were just a few yards away. When I saw Chip, I hugged him so long and so hard that I’m surprised I didn’t break his ribs. I cried like I have never cried before. I’m so sorry, I’m tearing up right now thinking about it, so I will just wrap it up by saying that the CM saw how emotional all three of us were at being reunited that he asked, “How long will you all be staying with us?” and I was barely able to answer that it was our last night. Well, Disney being Disney and that CM being a wonderful CM, he didn’t want us to have to leave on such a terrible note. He offered us free tickets for MVMCP and I gladly accepted because I needed to shake the awful feeling in the pit of my stomach. I couldn’t even imagine how Chip must have felt, or Minnie for that matter. So, in my first post when I said we got to go to MVMCP in 2008, I glazed over how we came about getting those tickets because that is not exactly my favorite memory of WDW. We did end up having a good time, even though we were emotionally exhausted and just plain old tired from a week of touring the parks. I think you can see on the kids faces in this picture that they were ready for bed:

So, Minnie getting lost wasn’t as dramatic, but it was just as terrifying. We were in HS on our 2009 trip and saw that High School Musical was about to be performed. I knew that Minnie wanted to see it – but she darted off ahead of us and I lost sight of her in the crowd of people. At least with Minnie, I knew where she was headed, but I was still out of my mind with fear. Chip and I circled the crowd of little kids, trying to spot her and ran into a CM to ask for help. Just as I approached him, I spotted her shirt in the crowd and ran to her. Chip made his way through the seated kids and tapped Minnie on the shoulder. She turned around and nonchalantly waved at both of us. I guess she didn’t consider herself lost??? :confused3 Well, maybe she was scared because after the show, she had to get a drink!

What a lush! Just kidding! That was a slushy from one of those carts:

I sure could have used a drink after that, though! :rotfl: So, that is another reason I want the kids to have reliable cell phones on them when we go on our trip. God forbid the kids get lost again, at least they will have their phones with them so that we can contact each other. So I’m going to lighten the mood a little bit before I end this post by sharing this picture from later that day that I think is so funny. The kids look like they are overjoyed to be taking this picture! :lmao:

I hope that lightened the mood a little bit! I promise my next post won’t be such a downer!

Oh Erin! I know exactly how you feel! Jace got lost at Six Flags once and it was TERRIFYING!! And let me just say that the folks at Six Flags do not handle lost children incidents as well as the folks at Disney. I'm glad it all worked out and hope the party helped ease things for you a bit.

It will be just me and the kids (my mom has decided not to go) in the fall and the fact that they have cell phones makes us all feel better. I'm glad that you were able to do this and that Chip will now have something reliable. :)

Thank you, Hope. Losing a kid in an amusement park is absolutely horrifying! Yes, we all enjoyed the party and left MK exhausted but happy :) I'm sorry your mom won't be going with you on your trip, but you are so right that it is very reassuring to know your kids will have cell phones. I'm glad I decided to get the kids phones yesterday. I think I just needed to sleep on it because I was feeling guilty for stepping on my ex's toes - but the most important thing is for the kids to have reliable phones. I feel good about it now :goodvibes

Oh Erin! How very scary; both incidents. My younger daughter Mykenah was lost for a few minutes in WDW on our first trip. She has just lagged behind on the bridge in MK but when I got to the end and she wasn't with me, I about lost my mind. So I can sympathize with how you were feeling. Score on getting a great deal on the phones! :thumbsup2 (both my girls have phones and it really is just a comfort thing for me too.)

Thank you, Kelli  Losing a kid in a amusement park is just awful! I'm really happy about my choice to get my kids phones, just for my peace of mind :)

So I finished reading your TR the other day. I couldn't comment on there since it's closed, so I'll comment on here LOL. You guys had a great time! You actually arrived the day after we left on our 2009 trip! I remember it being cold as all get out that weekend! It was also a little chilly the previous weekend when we went to MVMCP and Chip guilt-tripped me into riding Splash Mountain. Never again in the cold! We were freezing for hours until our clothes finally dried off! :rotfl:

Also, I'm pretty sure we're related. At least, according to Morghan's theory about Native Americans :lmao: My parents, grandparents and great-grandparents are all either 1/4 or 1/2 Native American. Same thing for my ex-husband's side of the family. So, by my fuzzy math calculations, I figure that makes me and my kids 1/4 Native American too! :thumbsup2 A relative of mine (an actual relative this time LOL) actually works at the National Museum of the American Indian in DC. So I think Morghan is correct, we're all related in some way or another :)

Finally, congratulations on being able to adopt your little nephew! I actually had to foster a relative of mine unexpectedly. I was only 27 when he came to live with us and Chip was only 1. I won't go into details, but my ex and I were married and Minnie wasn't even a thought yet, so this seems like forever ago! He lived with us from 11 to 18 and I wouldn't change that experience for the world and I was so happy I could do it. So I can just imagine the joy you must have about being able to bring that little boy into your family :goodvibes

OMG, guys, I did it! I put on my big girl pants this morning and changed my reservation from a package at POFQ to a room only reservation at POFQ with a river view! :yay: So you know what that means! I've decided to get an AP this year! I didn't get the bonus from the company where I work because the company didn't beat quota this year. I also am still not getting child support. I did, however, get a nice little raise at the end of the year! :woohoo: It still isn't as much as I was making this time last year before my promotion (it ALMOST makes me miss sales. Almost  ) but it is still something and it makes me feel comfortable to make the financial commitment to get an AP. The kids and I deserve it - especially after not getting to go on vacation last year. So I'll be able to start planning our Christmas vacation soon! Believe me, I was tempted to book it today! :lmao: But I'm not totally set on the dates yet. I'm thinking the week after Thanksgiving. Anyway, in reference to this trip, it is becoming more and more real every day :goodvibes Oh, and today marks

50 Days!!!:cool1: :cheer2: :cool1: :cheer2: :cool1:

Oh Erin, thanks for reading my report! That's so nice of you. :)

It was cold while we were there! It warmed up some days but it was just too chilly for us to enjoy being wet or go swimming often. I am so happy I found a long-lost relative! That's so, so funny! Thank you so much for the congrats on adopting Michael. It was a really long road (as you know) and so worth it in the end. I think that's great you were able to foster your relative. It takes a very special person to be a foster parent.

Yay for 50 days!!! Woot! :cool1:

Just subbed and started reading yesterday!

I called Disney Reservations with tears in my eyes. Who am I kidding? I was crying my eyes out over this! I had to regain my composure before I called – and I almost lost it again as the CM answered my call. I requested to cancel my package and she asked me if I wanted to reschedule. I had to breathe to keep from getting choked up, and the tears were welling again, because I had to tell her I couldn’t reschedule right then. And then, to add insult to injury, I had to ask to be transferred to Disney Dining so I could cancel the ADRs too. The ADRs that I got by waking up at the crack of dawn 180 days out from our arrival date, poised at my laptop at 6am as my kids slept with no idea of the lengths I would go to for them to make this trip fantastic. OK, it wasn’t that big of a deal to be ready at the computer at 6 since I am already awake at that time of morning anyway – but it sounded dramatic, didn’t it?

I know EXACTLY how this feels, so I share your pain! We had to cancel a perfectly planned trip (all my trips are perfectly planned though! LOL) last fall and I'm planning again and will make it happen this time! Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

I am so far behind, Erin! Woo hoo for deciding to get an AP! I think that is just awesome!!! I have had those thoughts before, but I haven't acted on them yet!

Oh Erin, thanks for reading my report! That's so nice of you. :)

My pleasure! It was a great, fun read!

I am so happy I found a long-lost relative! That's so, so funny! Thank you so much for the congrats on adopting Michael. It was a really long road (as you know) and so worth it in the end. I think that's great you were able to foster your relative. It takes a very special person to be a foster parent.

It’s something I thought I would never have to do (and it sounded like it was totally unexpected for you to have to foster and then adopt Michael too) but it is, as you know, very wonderful to be able to help a child out of a bad situation and then have them become part of your family :goodvibes

Yay for 50 days!!! Woot! :cool1:

I'm just too excited!!! :yay:

APs and 50 days! :woohoo:

I still can’t believe I did it! APs? Me and the kids? Well, alrighty then! :cool1: This trip is sneaking up on me, but I like it! :thumbsup2

I just was notified of your order.....Thank you!!!!!

I got an email this morning saying it shipped! I should get my awesome Avon stuff in a few days!

Just subbed and started reading yesterday!

:welcome: Karen!

I know EXACTLY how this feels, so I share your pain! We had to cancel a perfectly planned trip (all my trips are perfectly planned though! LOL) last fall and I'm planning again and will make it happen this time! Can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

After reading your “Neverending” PTR and Hope’s PTR, I am well aware that your trips are indeed perfectly planned! :rotfl: I think that is what makes cancelling even worse, though! There are these very well laid out plans running around in your mind day and night, there are ADRs that were made to fit into your schedule and there are surprises along the way for your kids and then it all goes up in smoke! Such a horrible feeling! Well, I am glad that we are both making it work now so that you and I will have our trips for our families this year! Nothing beats a woman with determination! :thumbsup2 Plus, you are so lucky to have a real life friend to plan with who is just as excited about Disney as you are! Do you think you can share your secret for turning someone into a Disney addict? You know, since Hope calls you her “pusher”? :lmao:

I am so far behind, Erin! Woo hoo for deciding to get an AP! I think that is just awesome!!! I have had those thoughts before, but I haven't acted on them yet!

Thanks, Jackie! I have been on the fence about the AP since I started writing this PTR! It will be 45 days on Feb. 16th, so I HAD to make a decision one way or the other. I think what put me over the edge was that Chip and Minnie kept asking when we were going back to WDW. It was completely out of nowhere that they would bring the subject up. Minnie even asked if she could go for her birthday! “Well, I don’t know about that, Minnie. We’ll see, but I’m not too sure…” :rotfl: The other thing was that I REALLY missed going there for the Christmas season and I am going to be able to take the kids again this year because of the AP. I think this will be the only year I do the AP, though… I think :rolleyes1

On Friday afternoon, I got an IM from my coworker that said, “So, you’re a Disney expert, huh?”

Honestly, my first thought was “Oh my God, he saw me on these Disney websites during work hours and he’s going to rat me out to our boss!” :lmao: Then I realized that was ridiculous and also that he is a nice guy, so I replied to the IM, “How did you know that?”

He wrote back, “FB, silly! :p ” Then I remembered I accepted him as a Facebook Friend a few days ago. Duh! My FB is littered with WDW pictures from the 2008 and 2009 trips. So we went on with our conversation and he said that his kids have been asking to go to Disney, but he wanted to go somewhere else. His kids have been asking him and his wife more and more recently (I think he said his kids are 7 and 9) because they have never been. Believe me, I was ready to hop over the cubicle to take over his computer and start planning his vacation for him! :rotfl: Instead of acting like a psycho, though, I asked him a few questions like what types of hotels they like when they vacation, if they like to eat a lot and try new things or if they prefer to sort of graze all day, what time of year they would want to go, etc. He was looking for a flat price, as all newbies do when considering a WDW vacation  I mean that in the nicest way, because I know I was looking for just a straight price when I booked our 2008 trip. But, as we all know, there are so many factors that go into how much or how little you spend when you take a trip to WDW. Really, that is the case with all trips, but WDW especially because so much planning has to be done in advance. So first, I told him about the websites I frequent when I’m planning a trip and advised that those sites were great resources for finding a really good deal. Then I priced out a 7 day vacation for him and his family staying at a deluxe with 5 day hoppers and the regular dining plan. He was surprised at the value of the trip and got all excited about it and started asking more questions. Of course, I was happy to oblige! I started thinking that I may have found a perfect WDW convert that I could obsess about planning with at work, but then I thought his wife might not like that if he and I were spending hours talking about THEIR vacation! :rotfl2: So I gave him a homework assignment: to visit the websites I told him about and talk it over with his wife to see if they really wanted to do Disney this year or next. If so, I’d be happy to help with any tips or advice. Is is sad that I really hope that they decide to go this year? :rolleyes1

So anyway, that night was Minnie’s Father/Daughter dance at her school. She was so excited and so was I! She and I went shopping a couple of weeks ago and brought a beautiful dress, pretty accessories and some shoes. My goodness, the shoes! What was so special about them, you ask? Well, they were perfect shoes for the dress, but the reason I was so shocked by the shoes was because they were a women’s size 6.5!!! My little baby 7 year old daughter wears 6.5 in Women’s shoes?!?!? When, exactly, did this happen??? I am so glad I didn’t buy her shoes (that I am going to decorate for BBB) yet, because I would have brought a Child’s 5! That was the size I brought her the last time we went shoe shopping! It shouldn’t have been a surprise, though, because I’ve been talking about how she has been having growth spurts like crazy. She AND Chip have! Now I’m afraid to take Chip shoe shopping! The kids are making me feel old! Also, I wear a size 10 :scared1: so she is definitely following in my footsteps. OMG, a pun! LOL Seriously, though, this chick is gonna have big feet like her mama! ;) Their dad is 6’4” and wears a size 15 (I didn’t know those even existed until we started dating :rotfl: ) so the kids will definitely be tall and have BIG FEET! Anywho…

On my way home from work, I also brought Minnie her first pair of pantyhose. Not little girl stockings, but pantyhose! My baby is growing up! It was one of those moments when I realized that things are changing and the kids really are on their way to becoming adults. They will always be my babies, though. So by the time I got home, Minnie was bouncing-off-of-the-walls-excited and my mom was trying to coax her into getting into the bath to get ready. It was a sight to see. Minnie was too hyped up about her dance to even get ready! So I had to reason with her and tell her she had to get in the bath so that she could get all freshened up and smelling sweet for her daddy and then she’d be able to put on her new dress. Seeing the logic in that, she high-tailed it to her bathroom. Then she got out, and I let her put on my prized H20 lotion (which I will have to buy more of since I can’t stop using it – shame on me  ). After I did her hair up in a big poufy ponytail, per the diva’s – I mean Minnie’s request, she got dressed and posed for some pictures before her dad arrived to take her to the ball!

Yes, she is practicing to be a supermodel! Well, her dad got there shortly after but I didn’t get any pictures of them together since he didn’t come inside. Oh well. But she said that they took a picture together at the dance, so hopefully she will get a copy of that. She also said that she had a really wonderful time playing with her friends and dancing with her dad. She said she felt like a princess in that dress, and I thought she looked like one too!

I also get excited when other people start planning a trip to WDW- I can tell pretty quickly by the look on their face if they think I'm a helpful expert or just a total nut. :lmao:

Love the pics of Minnie in her dress. :lovestruc And a father daughter dance sounds so sweet.
