Haven't you been getting the DVC discount from United?

;) :p ;)

This is perfect for us, we've tried to do AP's every other year and get multiple trips out of them. They expire at the end of the month but our next trip isn't unil Nov 05 so we'll get the discount :bounce: :teeth:

Also no real incentive to renew so will probably keep doing the same thing and only purcase every other year.

At first I was a little bummed since we will miss the deal as we are buying AP's in Dec. BUT, if we can upgrade to PAP in January for the cost of a mickey ice cream, we'll be jumping to be able to go to water parks, disney quest, etc... on our summer trip. Yay! we can (I hope) take advantage of it.

I did fill out the member survey during our summer trip. (That's the one where you get a free pen every day for turning in your spending sheet and a gift card for the whole book). Anyway, we didn't step foot into any of the parks on that trip. Maybe more DVCers did the same and further solidified WDW to offer the discount.

If this is an ongoing perk, it will make our joining DVC even more valuable to us.

Walt Disney World Annual Pass Discount
Disney Vacation Club Members and their immediate family (living in the same household) are eligible to receive discounts on new and renewed 2005 Walt Disney World® Annual and Premium Annual Passes beginning January 2, 2005.

[...]

Passes can be purchased online by visiting dvcmember.com or at any Guest Relations location at all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks and the Downtown Disney area beginning January 2, 2005. Your Disney Vacation Club Member ID card must be provided and all adults must present a valid driver's license or state identification card showing they reside in the same household. Limit 8 purchases per household.
Hmmmmm. Seems like less of a perk than anticipated. If I understand the above rules, I would not be able to buy an AP for our adult DS, as he lives on his own at a different address. Grandparents can't buy for grandchildren, can't buy a pass for an adult non-cohabiting friend, etc.

I guess now that the Occupancy issue has been resolved, Disney decided we needed a new set of "official rules" vs "I was told by a Guide" issues to debate. ;) :(

Actually, it is consistent with what I anticipated. There needs to be some boundaries, otherwise DVC members could start thier own business selling discount APs. :)

Awesome. So it appears I can buy one pass at a time at DVC online as I save up the money instead of buying them all at once. Then when we get down there we can redeem them and that is when the activation date starts. I'm getting this correct?

We already have APs so we won't need them again until a January 2006 trip. Maybe after the new year I'll starting slowly buying us all a new AP voucher. (Or can I even do that if we currently already have an AP?) I don't want to renew as it would be wasted months.

Wow, I really hope this is a permanent perk and it doesn't last just this year. I think this is really gonna change the way many of us vacation! Cause when you have that AP you can't help but want to squeeze in more trips! (I know I'll be getting five out of this one - originally it was only supposed to be three trips!)

SSR should sell out fast now with all the add ons they'll be getting! :hyper:

This is my fear. That it will only be for one year.

Saying to self " I must not look ahead and am grateful for what we have today (or 1/2/05)".

Well , I guess all of us heading that way in December have to wait to renew for the discounts!!!

BUT hey come renewal time happy dance :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I think it is only fair to keep it to immediate DVC members & family only.

I agree, they have to draw the line somewhere.

Now, next question, if we order them from the website, will there be a way to pay for them with our Disney Visa Rewards cards??? I have enough rewards dollars to buy 2 passes right now, and that is what I was saving them for. But, I'd like to buy them as soon as possible to guard against price increases, or the deal ending before our next trip (most likely 2006).

I have no problem with everyone having to live at the same addresses. It is right and more then fair.

I do wonder how I will feel about that in about 25 years when my now 16 year old has never left home because he doesn't want to lose the discount LOL :teeth:

I'm so excited about this perk!:cloud9:

I won't be able to use it right away because we'll be going back in December and I'll probably renew our passports. But if we can upgrade to a PAP after the discount comes out, I'm pretty sure we will.

Now I'm thinking we'll have to try to squeeze in another quick trip home before they expire!:)

I know this overall benefits Disney or they wouldn't do it, but I'm definitely thankful for this perk! Hopefully, it will stick around for awhile! :cool1:

In general I don't either however when they specify a group of people such as in laws, etc and draw a line between where they live, I think that is wrong and I bet it is changed in the next couple of months prior to the actual go live date. Here is the list to refresh our memories.
Who is defined as "immediate family"?
"Immediate family" is defined by Walt Disney World Resort for discount purposes as noted below:
Spouse/Registered Domestic Partner
Parent/Step Parent
Mother-In-Law/Father-In-Law
Child/Step Child
Brother, Sister/Step Brother, Sister
Brother-In-Law/Sister-In-Law
Grandparent
Grandchild
Sounds like a good time to get some new state ID cards for a lot of people.

Is it possible that the AP's I just purchased and am going to activate this Dec. would be eligible to be upgraded to PAP's at a later date this year and be able to take advantage of the discount?

Either way I am still psyched. I can't complain about going in Dec. as opposed to Jan.... I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!

I think the discount is great!!:sunny:

Dean--I'm perplexed also about the "same address" issue. Not that it really is a huge deal for us as hubby and are probably the only ones to take advantage of this great deal. However, if mom, dad, and grandma (who do go with us on occasion) were interested, they would not be included because they don't live with us? I'm not sure I understand why they would include inlaws and the like if they have to live with us. Talk about occupancy overload...whew!! Maybe they assume we all live in the same house since folks are always asking about sneaking in an extra body in a studio......ha!

The DVC discount will apply for members of the immediate family. I asked if that meant those living at the address of record and was told it will include children, siblings, parents, grandparents, grandchildren, SIL, DIL, etc. . There will be a maximum of eight AP/PAP purchases allowed per year.

Thanks for sharing. This is great news since I bought DVC for extended family trips. I guess I'll need more DVC points if this is more than a one time discount.

:D
