Guess What I Was Just Told?i Have The Long Awaited Disney Perk,WE GET THE AP AND PAP

I just called MS to update some info on my reservation and slipped in the question about the AP discount at the end.

Another confirmation that it is happening at the beginning of the year. She said they did not know all the details yet. I specifically asked about how many AP's one could purchase and did not get an answer.

Wish I knew what prompted this - DVC sales are fine - d'you think Disney finally noticed we weren't going into the parks as much as we could??

I sure will now!!!! I can just see it- hop the bus to MK to go to the bakery just to buy dessert after a long day at the OKW pool....

or, stroll into Epcot just to have some Boddington's in UK... (do they have Boddy's?)

ahhhhhhhhhhh....

Sue, I think you hit upon the reasoning behind this. Disney wants to steer our behavior toward spending more money in the Parks, and this is a good way to do it.

My may trip has now become a 7 night trip in May and then another long weekend in the beginning of next December!!!! Thank you AP gods!!!

LOL!!

What a great benefit!

Well, I am happy with this discount if it goes through. We were debating on if it would be cost efficient. This will make it cost effective AND we get AP discounts. Its a win win situation for my family.

And im sorry if some peoples schedule doesnt allow them to take advantage of member perks, but its not our fault, so dont get mad at us.

Your schedule is the result of conscious choices that you make. If my schedule is such I can't feed my Disney habit, I change my schedule. That is the choice I make.

When I am old and gray, no one will remember I didn't take more vaction time during my life than me.

UGHHHHHHH!! I just bought my AP the last week in Oct. I'm glad they are doing some perks. It's about time. I hope it last and I hope they add more perks that I can use this time.

Awesome news.

WHERE IS THE POLL ON THIS?

Who will now buy AP from now on?

I bet you could trade them in after January 3 on a PAP for only a few dollars more though...... (since the PAP would probably cost the new discounted rate.)

Which would be nice if your going again next year.

One thing to note on discount PHP: they are already readily available at a discount. Visit the budget board, it is very helpful.

Available:
7 day PHP, no plusses, from Hotwire for $303 ($43.29 per day)
5 day PHP no plusses from AAA: $232 ($46.40 per day)
6 day PHP, 3 plusses from AAA: $290 ($38.33 per day for the parks if you value the plusses at $20. each)
In addition, with AAA you get a pass to park up close to the gate. These PHP never expire---a great hedge against inflation!

At the same time, I'm glad for the AP discount, because up to now, unless you lived in the state of Florida, there was no other option for getting an AP at any kind of discount (other than renewal).

HTH

This is why I already purchased my PHP's for next August. Of course, the AP's would be the same price, unfortunately we are not spending more than 7 days, and we probably won't use all seven when we do go, so the PHP's are still a better deal for us at this time.

Yes, I think this is very true. Most "member perks" and discounts in general are geared toward giving a bit of a discount so we will spend more money. Restaurant discounts, for example, are there to lure us into meals we might forego in favor of a microwave meal in our studio. Some might never think of getting that spa treatment, but that 10% off makes it more appealing and might push someone to do it. An AP discount might help draw DVCers in for more park time, or might convince others to take an extra trip, hence spending more money.

Well, this may prompt me from"every other year" to "renew" and keep continuous! I love the flexibility of the PAP and since the next purchase will be all adult It will be nice to have the money to spend on other things in the parks. After the price increase this year we had to cut a few character meals, now I'll be able to put them back!

talked to our guide..she said to look on the mebers website today and that it would be going out via email, newsletter, etc also. She said 100 off adult and 85 off child............starts jan 2............I am so excited!!!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I predict an increase in add on's at DVC -- gotta go more days to use those annual passes!! The annual passes won't work for us, but I'm glad to see them offer such a significant discount. Like I said, I'm betting DVC gets even more add on business...

Count me in as somone who DVC has made extremely happy!!!! Wishes actually do come true!!! It can happen to you!!! If only you beleive!!!

Having just gotten so many discounts yanked from me, this does come at a nice time! Thank you DVC and Disney!

Awesome News! Thanks for posting it here! This will make a difference on when I schedul vacations. If I can only go once this year, I'll make sure that my next year trip falls one week before the AP expires!

Right now though, I tend to make at least 2 trips to WDW, but only going 10 days in the parks, it always gets harder and harder justifying buying that AP.....this discount will make it easier!

Thanks for the info, and Thanks DVC for the thinking of the DVC Members! I hope more discounts will come.....like a DVC Food and Fun pirate:

Solution for Dr. P to be able to get AP's like most other people. Why, because thats the kind of guy I am. :teeth:

My school is in session for me from August 15 to August 8 each year, with the only vacation I am actually allowed to take being the Christmas holiday since the university shuts down (even DW doesn't understand this, because I do not get any vacation benefits in my position at all)
From what you state, you could take a vacation on Aug. 9th to Aug. 14th, as well as the Christmas holidays(I'll assume at least a 2 week window. You have two choices to get multiple uses out of an AP.

First, you could take one vacation in Aug., then another at Christmas, making the AP worthwhile. Or go at Christmas, then in Aug.

Second, you could take a vacation one year in December(26th to 1st Jan) then the following year go December 19th to the 25th), which once again makes the AP worthwhile.

I think most people thought that a 10-20% discount was all that would happen on a AP, Disney has gone the xtra mile in this case.

Sorry, SoCalKDG, but that doesn't work. DW works for a part of the university that requires her to be at her job after August 1 each year to train and accomodate new staff, so August is out as a possibility, not to mention the fact that required school activities for DD start approximately August 10 each year. I might add that those schedule issues would not be expected to go away in the future, either. Our Christmas vacations do not vary significantly from year to year, so bouncing back and forth is absolutely impossible. This year we get December 24-January 1. Next year we get December 23-January 2. But, of course, government workers are just leeches who don't deserve the same pay and benefits that other people get, and, of course, the true cause of government deficits is giving extra pay and benefits to those of us who work so that the rest can keep their tax breaks. That's certainly what many politicians would want you to believe.

I, for one, am very happy to see this perk, even though we probably won't use it. We usually use our points to do two short trips to Orlando per year, and visit both WDW and other Orlando attractions. We also usually do one Concierge Collection trip, or other non-DVC trip as our "long" vacation. As a result, Park Hoppers will probably still work best for us.

Doctor P, I'm a government worker, too, and am very appreciative of what all the public servants out there are doing for our country and local communities. Hang in there.
