GRRR..Going crazy with new iMac!!

I totally agree on the external drive route. You can get them very reasonably from the Apple Shop online. Basically, you'd plug it into the PC, copy your files onto it, plug it into the Mac and copy it over. You'd save yourself the hassle and you'd have an external drive to keep backups on etc. I myself have a 250GB drive and love it!

Rich::

How much is that? The apple store will move them for me for $50.

more than $50 but it will give you a backup for music and photos. Hard drives can and do fail. Most say it isn't a matter of IF but WHEN and then you will lose everything.

I currently back up my photos to 2 separate external drives. As well as burn DVD-Roms and print the best photos. I also use an online backup (like iDisk) for really really important stuff.

I also have 2 separate backups of my iTunes in addition to the original CDs. While not as important as my photo and video work, it was super time consuming to transfer all my CDs to iTunes and I don't want to loose it.

You can get 500 gig of external storage for less than $150. I would recommend some kind of external storage for anyone PC or Mac.

My DS's PC is on it's second hard drive. My mom just lost everything on her Dell due to a hard drive crash. My dad also had a crash not to long ago.

Now external hard drives can fail too but the chances of the external and internal failing at the same time are pretty slim.

Make sure both computers are set up for sharing. It took me a bit but there should be a place in your help options that tells you how to set up sharing files on the dell. Also with music, set your Itunes up to mp3 cd which will allow you to burn more songs to it. I hope that helps ya. Once you go MAC you don't go back, at least I haven't.

go into system preferences, and enable personal file sharing and windows file sharing. even if you bought your iMac online, the Apple store will do a onetime file migration for free. you'll need to have everything you want migrated in a folder on your desktop and ready to go.

it's also included if you buy Pro Care which is a bargain at $99.00 for a full year.

we have 24" Imac, two MacBooks, and a PC (which hardly gets used anymore). once you get past the OS X learning curve, you'll realize how great the Mac experience is.

I agree with everyone. If you want to transfer files, the easiest and safest way is using an external hard drive.

We switched to MAC several months ago and love every minute of it. DH's work now uses Mac powerbooks and they are so happy they made the switch.

Just stretch it bigger by grabbing the bottom right hand corner.

Oh you're a genius, thank you thank you. We got a MacBook as a leasing bonus for our apartment (awesome awesome bonus), so I was thrown back into Mac-world suddenly (and my old PC is dying a painful death so I don't really have it to use in the interim), and the window size thing was driving me mad.

Thank you!

To make the window as big as possible, click the green circle in the upper left corner. This is called maximizing. To close the window, click the red circle.

FWIW, with Safari, the green button only makes it as big as it "thinks" it should be. If I go to a page that has longer horizontal text, or a huge picture, I can click it to make the page bigger but it will only go as big as the text or picture is, no bigger. Driving me nuts!

The previous suggestion to go to the bottom right was absolutely brilliant, at least for my needs. I hadn't even NOTICED that little thing in the right hand corner!

have decided I'm in love with this thread.

I loved Macs in college, but somehow ended up owning a PC. got used to it at home and work. getting used to the Mac is like going home to a house you'd *almost* forgotten about. takes getting used to, but is very comfy. :)

I'll look into that, you're probably right. Yes, it's pricey now, but if the hard drive bombs and I lose everything that's even worse.
