groupon issues

I bought my first Groupon coupon in June. I went to use it last week (expiration is not until 1/12) and the merchant said they tried to run it through but it came back as having been used already. I know that it had not. I contacted Groupon and they basically said "Sorry. You can try to use it again, or we can credit your purchase towards another groupon purchase." I'm really not too anxious to try to use groupon again. I've used Living Social and similar coupons before but this was my first Groupon experience.

Anyone else have a similar story, or are there only success stories with Groupon?
 
Sorry I haven't. I buy and use them all the time with no trouble. I have run into some questions using the Gap and 77 Kids one I've bought in the past. Some of the employees were not trained but as soon as they got a manager it was done with no problem.

Maybe it was just an error and they put in the code wrong?

I use them all the time and so far have never had any issues when redeeming them.
 
I've never had a problem with mine, either, I would have them try it again, maybe they entered the number wrong. Everyplace that I've used mine has matched my name with the number and checked it off by hand.

I did have a problem with them also, and was told "Sorry it did'nt work out for you" Was soooooo angry!:scared1: I will never use them again and I caution everyone I know! They are great if all goes well, but if not........... NO Customer service!!:confused:
 
I've used at least 20 groupons and I've never had this happen. I would try to use it again, or contact groupon again.
 
I use groupon frequently and never had an issue. My suggestion would be to try again, and if you run into an issue again, call while you are at the store. This way, Groupon can confirm that it has not been used and they can talk to the employee if need be. Sorry you had a bad experience. I could only imagine how frustrating that is.
 
I had this happen also. When I drove 45 min, on a Saturday, and was told it had been used already, and I hadn't and the paper was in my hand! They told me to call Groupon (closed!) so I left a message. When I talked to Groupon a couple days later, they said I might have accidentally clicked it used (which could have happened). They credited my account the original purchase $ and I now have a credit. I thought they handled it well, so I would use Groupon again, because I had used it a few times before this happened.
 
Groupon has good customer service in my experience. I purchased a groupon and due to inforeseen circumstances it has not been able to be used so they are crediting my account. I have never had any issues with any other groupons purchased and will definitely keep using them.

It shouldn't have ended there for you. You keep bugging them until someone does something about it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease!
 
Yes, I had trouble also with a groupon code. Instead of the $100.00 discount it was suppose to give me it only gave me $.08 off!!!!!:eek: I had to email support several times back and forth and it was a known problem(by the posters comments on the webpage under the groupon discount) but they kept telling me I was putting in the wrong code. UMMM...No I wasn't. I was a little upset but they ended up crediting back my Credit Card. But if a deal comes up that I can use I will buy from them again.
 
I like Half Off Depot better than Groupon. I use them all the time and the only two times I've had a problem them took care of it with just one email. One restaurant changed hands and wouldn't except the certificate, so they gave me a refund to my credit card. Another went out of business and I had had the certificate for several months, so they gave me a credit to my account. Very good service and they run great specials. You can friend them on Facebook. I'm signed up for multiple cities that we visit.

Most of the issues tend to arise from the vendors themselves, and not from Groupon. Many vendors seriously underestimate the response they will get, and just end up not accepting them. I have seen numerous reports of stores losing tons of money because they didn't think the promotion through before they signed up for it. If the vendor is pulling something like that there isn't much Groupon can do beyond refund your money. It definitely sucks when stuff like that happens. We had a store pull something similar from another deal site, but we called their bluff while we were in store and they took it.
