Yes, I have seen this happen, and I haven't eaten there since!...

I'm no germophobe but even this grosses me out. Just transfer any leftover food onto the dogs bowl, but a dog licking my plate clean is a no-go!

My SIL used to have a seperate can opener just for opening the dog food. :thumbsup2

Oh yes, I know they get washed, but the dog bowl wouldn't go in the dishwasher either. It gets washed in the utility area with its own "doggie" cloth, etc.

(...paper plates would be fine as they get thrown, but we never use them.)

Eh. In the grand scheme of things, it's not really something that skeeves me out.

We let our dogs lick the plates clean, LOL. Guess you won't be eating here.

This reminds me of a memory about my dad. My aunt and uncle are NOT dog people, the whole dogs are dirty and how can you have them in the house type of people.

So once when they were over for supper, dad let the dog lick the plates. When he saw how disgusted they were, he decided to really play it up and told my mom to put the dishes back in the cupboard since they were now cleaned up and good to go. My aunt and uncle turned ten shades of green before he let them off the hook on that one.

Petting the dog, then making dinner with no hand washing in between, now THAT would gross me out. I'm more worried about what is on the outside of the dog than what is on the dog's tongue...especially after the dish goes through the dishwasher.

I guess you wont be eating at my house anytime soon, I share a fork with the dogs :rolleyes1

I guess I dont find it any grosser than eating a smushed up half eaten cherrio that a kid is "sharing".

I voted not gross at all. We let the cats eat milk out of our cereal bowls/spoons all the time. Did the same with the dogs in my family.

The dishwasher will sterilize the dishes. No different than when I have a human visitor who puts their mouth on my silverware/glasses and then I wash them and then I put my mouth on them the next day.

Really sharing cups/spoons with other humans is more dangerous than with other humans. After all, there isn't much we can catch from a dog or cat, but we can pass a ton of crap in our saliva from one human to another. (Of course I usually don't see my human visitors lick their butt before they use one of forks like the cat :lmao:. But then, who knows what my friends do in private? :confused3 )

I do actually like dogs, have them in the house quite happily, but they are still not eating off my best china!!! ;)

Wouldn't bother me a bit. We let the cats do it all the time. Then again, I'm pretty gross compared to most people.

It doesn't gross me out any more than other people eating on my plates. Humans share the germs/viruses that can get me sick, dogs don't.

If it goes into the dishwasher on a high temp setting, then it dries in the dishwasher, I don't see what the big deal is. You use spoons and forks after they have been other people's mouths. That isn't much "cleaner". So I guess if a dog licking a dish and then having it go into a very hot dishwasher is a problem, stick to disposable, plastic utensils and paper plates.

I voted "somewhat gross" but only because I'm severely allergic to dogs and I would worry about whether or not the person cleaned the dishes well enough to get rid of the allergens. If I didn't have allergies, I'd probably say "not gross at all."

When I was in highschool my first job was at a daycare during summer. All scraps from the kids lunches were given to the guard dog (an old old old dog which was left in the daycare at night and uncontolled pooped everywhere and drank from the toilets). :scared: After the dog would eat the scraps, the bowl was washed and pudding or jello was made in it for the following day. None of the parents knew this. Double :scared:

I do not know how I lasted a week but I quit.

no joke, unless you let a dog clean them up before the dishwasher, they come out with all those little bits of food dried on. :confused3

I don't find it gross at all. The dishes will be going in the dishwasher and the dishwasher will reach very high temps that will kill any bacteria.

Not high on my big-deal-o-meter.

I run pretty much everything through the dishwasher and I am satisfied that it sanitizes enough to remove any animal cooties.

Daily occurrance here. He likes to lick the inside of the dishwasher too!...and the floor....and my feet....and (well everything!)

A dog's mouth is (usually) cleaner than a human's, & if the dish is goiing to be washed ANYWAY, what's the diff?

Doesn't skeeve me out at all. I don't encourage it, but my boy has been know to jump into the dishwasher for a few licks. :sad2:
