Not the grossest thing ever but still pretty nasty. If any of my friends with dogs are doing this, I'd much rather not know about it.

Haha my dog loves to lick all the dishes as I put them into the dishwasher. If I pull out the top rack and start loading that he will just keep licking and usually ends up with drips of stuff on his head.

It is tradition to clean off the top of his head after I load the dishwasher. :p

A dog's mouth is (usually) cleaner than a human's, & if the dish is goiing to be washed ANYWAY, what's the diff?

That is actually a myth. A dog's mouth is most definitely NOT cleaner than a human's...unless you know of a human that likes to like his butt hole????? :rotfl2:

Not at all gross. Now if they were licking then using the plates I'd be a bit skeeved, but I do not see what the difference between a dog or a human is. Just like I wouldn't be grossed out if someone handed me a plate that had been washed after a sick person used it. No difference at all.

Now if they washed things in luke warm temps at all times, I'd be grossed out for other reasons ;)

I'm not a dog person, but it doesn't bother me. It's probably not that great for the dog though. I don't think I'd let the dog do it when I had company over for dinner.

So long as the dog doesn't lick the plate before the food goes on it, it doesn't bother me at all. And so long as whoever's making/serving the food isn't petting the animal at the same time. :scared:

Not a big deal. They are going to be steamed, so it wouldn't matter to me.

:rotfl2: My dog and I have the same tradition! In fact, she even knows if I'm loading or unloading the dishwasher. If I'm unloading, she will sit at the edge of the kitchen, watching me, because she knows she's not allowed near the clean dishes. The second I put the first dish in the dishwasher, she immediately runs over to lick them (and try to crawl in it sometimes.)

OMG!! Your dog and mine do the same thing.

If your dog pre washes your dishes and your dishwasher has a sensor to check to see how much water it needs to wash the dishes, your dog is doing the enviroment a favor. Your dishwasher is usiing less water. :rotfl2:

Definitely would gross me out. Yes, I realize the dishes are getting cleaned and sanitized afterwards, but it would still gross the heck out of me. :crazy2:

Not gross.

I don't let my dogs do that particularly...but if their dishes aren't clean, I have been known to feed them out of regular bowls.

And their bowls are washed in the dishwasher at the same time.

If the dishwasher can get rid of salmonella and a host of other germies, it will certainly kill any doggie cooties.

I guess you wont be eating at my house anytime soon, I share a fork with the dogs :rolleyes1

I guess I dont find it any grosser than eating a smushed up half eaten cherrio that a kid is "sharing".

I never ate anything that DD offered up when she was little. She knew very early it was Daddy's job :rotfl2: .

As far as sharing a fork, I don't even know where to begin  :scared1: :scared: . Of course I won't even share one with DH :rotfl2: .

BTW, I said somewhat gross more because I think it's bad manners (yes, I know it's a dog but still) than because of germs.

I voted for very gross but like some others have sid if my friends are doing this id reather not now. luckily i dont have too many friens with animals. I am still grossed out about the fact that my dbf mixes our dog's food with our spoons, but we dont let our dogs lick the plates or anything else, it goes from our plates to her bowl.

I guess most are right in the scheme of things it doesnt seem like a big deal but it still grosses me out by the thought..lol. yuck...lol

no joke, unless you let a dog clean them up before the dishwasher, they come out with all those little bits of food dried on. :confused3

:rotfl: Exactly! If I had a dog, I'd have no problem letting him or her lick a dish before it went into the dishwasher. I wash everything on the highest heat setting and then let it dry in the dishwasher because I'm almost always too lazy to empty it before the dishes are dry anyway, so it'd be fine by me.

Gee if a house pet licking the plate bothers you then you better not ever eat in a restaurant or especially not a hospital. after some of the disgusting things I've seen people leave on plates in public places a dog licking it is nothing.

Don't eat at my house either because I feed my cat out of the same dessert dishes everyone uses, just reach up and get the next one out of the cupboard in the morning.

It's usually only the mashed potato bowl that the dogs lick...unless they hang around the dishwasher when DS is loading it. He usually puts them in their "house" during that time though. Usually one gets the bowl, the other gets the spoon.

I wash their bowls in the dishwasher too.

I just thought of something......

My 5 year old likes to sip out of my coke and my husband's coke. We were at the chinese restaurant the other day and I ordered spicy garlic broccoli (that the child was sharing)....you see where this is going.....:scared:

I was being a "sweet" Mommy and letting the little darling take swigs out of my coke as opposed to his milk....well....when Mommy went to get a swig, I saw little green balls floating in my coke!!:scared: :sad2: Needless to say, I got a new coke and no more "community sips"...Ick.

Needless to say, THAT is gross...lol.
