Hey all,

New DVCer here. First trip home to SSR in May. And I'd like to know: where do folks without rental cars get their groceries? Do you order them through member services? Do any of the resorts offer basic groceries (cereal, mik, fruit, etc?) Does anyone know whether SSR will have those items for sale?

Thanks!

If you use a towncar service to transport you to the resort, you can stop for 20-30 minutes at a grocery store to pick up your essentials. SSR will even store your refrigerated and frozen products if your room isn't ready yet.

We used a towne car (van actually) and made the grocery stop. I bought all of the refrigerated items, eggs, milk, juice, water, etc. However, all of the dry goods, I packed. I filled an entire suitcase full of packaged and canned food. On the return trip, we filled the emptly luggage bag with all of the souveniers we bought, that we said we weren't going to buy!!

Each of the DVC resorts has a place to purchase basic groceries. They tend to be a little more costly than in a grocery store.

You will not find items like fruit or fresh veggies, etc...but you will find many items to make breakfast, quick dinners & lunches.

If you go to the member website, there is a list for pre-ordering these items which also includes prices. I believe the lists will be under "planning your trip." It is my understanding SSR will also have the ability for you to do your basic food purchases.::MickeyMo

And that page is in serious need of updating. The Publix it has listed as being under construction has been open at least a year now.

I'm working up a new map to show where the closest reasonable stores are.

From what I understand Goodings Grocery Store will deliver for a $10 fee and $50 min. Goodings has a reputation of being a bit expensive.

There is also an independent delivery service called WeGoShop.com that will shop at any store and deliver for $12-25 depending on amount.

I haven't used either service but have been researching for future trips.

We just tried Goodings' delivery service on 3/28 and it was a disaster. Several wrong items were delivered, we were charged for gallons of water (which we ordered) but 1.5 liter bottles were delivered. HUGE hassle getting it delivered to our OKW room - called Goodings and they said that they only deliver to Front Desk and Bell Services delivers from there to room (building 38 is no small walk with groceries). Bell Services rightfully made the argument that Goodings is paid $10 to deliver, so they should deliver right to the room. Waited in my room for more than 3 hours waiting for this to get resolved; CM manager said she would be speaking with Goodings manager next business day to clarify. Regardless, don't think the service is worth the inflated food prices and poor handling. FYI.

We are going in June and someone on this board told me about preordering groceries from Albertsons. They pack them for you and all you do is tell the driver of your limo/towncar to stop there. If they allow you 20 minutes you have enough time to check the order and pay. I hope it works! If anyone has done this let me know how it worked out !

"Albertson's Grocery Girl 'O the Dis"....

LOL!!!:D

Yes, you can fax your order to Albertson's -sorry, the numbers aren't right with me...search Albertson's Groceries and one of my posts with them should pop up...

Anyway, the Albertson's you want is the one on Hwy 417 and Ornage Blossom Trail. FLTours gives you a free 30 minute grocery stop.Albertson's will "pick and pack" your order for you, and have it waiting at Customer Service Desk when you arrive. You can add more items to your order if you want.

At the top of EACH of your fax pgs, include your name, date of arrival, town car service you're using, and approx time of arrival. Try to indicate sizes and quantities and whether store brand substitution is ok on your list.

HTH!!!
