Grandpa Mohawk takes a fall

I am so sorry to here about this. Pixie dust to Grandpa Mohawk for a speedy recovery.:wizard: I'm very encouraged to hear how helpful the CM's at BWV have been to you.

It is a beautiful view here. I do have the room over the Screen Door (2047) with the high balcony wall, but I can hear the Boardwalk music and see Beach/Yacht Club in the distance.

Thanks for the update. I'm really pleased to hear that the staff have been so good.

We had room 2047 in April (first time ever allocated a HA room - arrived late) and I thought it was fine but I was surprised that they would turn a room with a high solid balcony into a HA room. Surely people in wheelchairs/power chairs should be able to enjoy the full view too

Best wishes to you both

I don't know what room as they keep shifting him around. A card or two may just help cheer him. He loves to hear what's been said about him or to him hear. We're both just sorry he can't be around to meet some of the DISers who planned to come down these weeks and find him. He loves meeting people.

Dr Philips Hosp is where my dad was when we were on our WDW trip in May when he found out he had nine ulcers! The staff was so nice and he loved that they served dinner from a menu and had a wait staff - our hospital makes you circle one or the other and you eat what they bring you or starve!

They also come dressed in black & white formal attire/uniforms. Just like the room service here at the BWV. GM usually hates room service but he's loving that one. I told him it's like being here.

Update: Well talked to the cardiologist today and it appears that the A-Fib triggered a baby heart attack for my dad (baby I that his heart enzymes were only slightly elevated). He was back to normal by this morning and bloodwork is showing his levels decreasing. So he's on a 48 hour cardiac hold before we proceed with surgery. The alternative is stenting and heart surgery which puts the leg surgery off another week or two. Not something we want to do because it'll make the leg worse and recovery longer.

So if everything calms down and stays calm we can see about surgery possibly Thursday. Please join me and my family in praying it goes more smoothly here on out. The last thing anyone needs is a major coronary or to be bedridden with a bum leg. (Doctors can give varying outlooks on what may or will happen.)

GM's started telling everyone about his blog. The student nurses love him. His spirits are holding. He's just frustrated that he can't begin the recovery process yet.

My brother's flying down tomorrow morning and my cousin coming Thursday. I'll be having roommates at SSR. That should be fun. My siblings will be doing some sort of rotation scheme to be down here. My cousin is coming to stay throughout.

I'm going to work on recharging my batteries tonight so I can deal with round 3 (or is it 4?).

I forgot to say, Grandpa Mohawk is known by the post office as Grandpa Mohawk.

Brogan I am so sorry you & your dad is going through all this. Will be saying lots of prayers for both of you. I'm glad someone is coming down to help you out.

Sorry to hear about your DGD's broken leg. I guess he's not in the entertainment industry (they say break a leg for good luck).

I hope that he has a speedy recovery so he, and you, can stalk the haunts at WDW in the near future.

OH NO!! I'm so sorry to hear about his accident... I'm glad your family is coming down to help out - that's got to be stressful, being the caregiver.

Maybe you could ask the front desk to print out this post for you. Hopefully it'll cheer up Grandpa Mohawk.

 to you, and a careful  to Grandpa Mohawk, too.

I'll be praying for him.

Sorry to hear about GM:hug: I love reading your stories (trip reports). Take care and get well soon!:flower3:

Wow, that is awful! hope the surgery works and he is out and about soon. Your TR report was wonderful and I look forward to your next TR. God Bless!

So sorry to hear this news. Hope Grandpa Mohawk has a speedy recovery, and you hang in there with your caretaking duties.

Update!

Just wanted to check in and let you all know GM is on the mend. He had his leg surgery today and all went smoothly.

I'm e-mailing from the foot of his bed right now. He's chipper. Been joking most of the afternoon with everyone and eating up a storm. PT's already brought him a walker and he starts his therapy tomorrow.

There's a chance he may be well enough to return to SSR next week (on wheels) to enjoy a little bit of Florida sunshine before we go home. I'll keep you posted.

I just checked into SSR yesterday and am there till the 12th at least. Have a rolling barrage of siblings coming over the next few days and my cousin come for the duration. GM has tons of helpful hands and smiling faces around.

Oh, LisaS, GM got your e-mail and loved it. He says thanks and hopes to meet you in person soon.

Thank heavens and what a relief! Here's to things getting easier or both of you from here on out. Whew - what a trip you're having. I hope you and Grandpa gets to have at least a little fun at SSR before you head for home. :thumbsup2

Great news.:goodvibes

I sure hope he has some vacation time at SSR.

Excellent news on GM's progress!

Sending more pixiedust: to the two of you. I suspect you will really need it with all the family coming to "help"out:rotfl:

Well, my card went in the mail today so hopefully he gets it before he gets out of the hospital! (if not, I'm sure he'd rather be at SSR!)

Glad everything is going well!

Thanks for posting the update. I have been checking obsessively for the past 2 days! We will be at SSR from Oct. 7 - 10, so I will be looking for you! Keep up the good work, GM and keep up the posting, BroganMc!
