GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

I posted on another virus thread that no one wears them here in my area of Louisiana. I heard the same from my in-laws who live in the western part of the state. People actually stare at me like I am insane when I go out in one. It's a "political statement" here.
That's what's so screwed up about this whole thing. I wear a mask to protect other people, no politics involved. Since that's my philosophy, it's really hard to see people not wearing masks.

In this situation, it's very hard to not express my frustrations for people who flaunt the law. But masks will remain optional until fines are imposed for both businesses and citizens.

There is a rally today. There were protests for over a week. The best you can hope for is some mask mandates and some at risk businesses voluntarily closing up shop. It's the wild, wild west boys and girls. Enjoy.
They’ve been “protesting” for several weeks.

Whats crazy is that worker could also get in trouble for even touching the customer. The customer is wrong to not follow the rules.

The customer is precipitating the contact. I believe in the midst of public health crisis, it won't be a problem.

My daughter's employer has told them they have a zero-tolerance policy for non-compliance and she has a person to contact. She was told that police will be called if the person is combative, which would be how I would classify that man.

Yes, but you are in NY,where most people know someone who had the virus. Here, it's not as up close and personal. I am very disappointed, because I think this is a runaway freight train.
Where I live yes. I'm downstate where things were really bad. But I've been to other parts of the state where there were hardly any cases at all and people still comply.

That’s an assumption on your part. Hopefully they will be okay and won’t suffer any long term damage to their bodies. And then there’s the possibility that they have infected a number of other people ...
Right. I said it partially tongue-in-cheek.

One thing I think we have to remember about "clusters," whether from bars or protests or political rallies -- there is an element of natural selection at work here. Same is true of social distancing and mask-wearing.

Some people are cautious; some are not. Some have extra vulnerabilities; others don't. Some are confident that if they do get sick, they won't get real sick and they'll get over it quickly.

Unfortunately, many don't follow the dots to "...what happens if I get sick...and then I get my Mom or Dad sick, or my asthmatic sister sick, or..." For many, it's all about ME.

Until they're not.... multiply that by thousands and that's why states like Arizona and Florida are running 75% full in ICU beds with most being covid. Not a game.
Don't know where you got your Florida ICU numbers, but you're way off. We have plenty of both regular hospital beds and ICU beds available.

Here are some actual facts -- and of course very few of those occupied ICU beds have covid patients. For example, only 11 of the 49 patients in ICU at Broward County's Memorial Hospital system are covid patients.

NOTE: This is just page 1 of 31. We have hundreds of open ICU beds. Here's a link to the whole story if you want to look at the complete list:

Is that a total use of ICU beds? Because while it’s definitely important to know how many are Covid in relation to how hard the virus is hitting, it also is important to look at total ICU bed usage because it still leaves only x number left.

So if 11 are Covid and 29 are other things and you only have 50 ICU beds total, then only 10 are still available for any need. (Making up numbers).

So in the end, the danger is running out of ICU beds, regardless of what they’re used for.

I edited my post above to include actual numbers. We're good.

Thanks for posting the direct information.

How off is way off? the last column is % Available ICU beds. The two largest in the state :: UF and JMH - are 78% an 80% utilized. Your graph underscores the current medical demand and it's rising.

If you want to be at a small community hospital ICU with COVID -- that's going to be a shorter stay than you would like if you need a vent.

I'm already ready to go to DLR on July 17th if Anaheim opens, but certainly will be taking all precautions as we can. To say that we're not in a demand pandemic though....that's just not correct.

most aren’t Covid in all the icus. Hospitals goals are to run as close to capacity as they can, they want to make money. Get out of mainstream news that twists everything and posts headlines to get people to click on them.

also the hospitals in south Florida and other parts have contingency plans that they can convert rooms and make room jn 24 hours now if the worst case happens which they couldn’t do back in March.
