I didn't speak with him; my MIL took a message for me. Guy claims he is calling because of the complaints Disney has received re rooms being unavailable for booking. We are invited to participate in an informational meeting at Olive Garden next week.

I was not born yesterday and I am certain this isn't someone FROM DVC or Disney calling me. Nor will I waste my time by going to this meeting. But, I'm curious- has anyone received such a call, or know what the scam is? popcorn::

Yes we've received these calls several times. I'm pretty sure it's a timeshare reseller based on the answers I received.

It's some type of sales presentation. Either another timeshare or a "vacation club" or similar. I'd avoid it, curiosity could cost you money and possibly your DVC ownership along with it.

...know what the scam is? popcorn::

usually these scams go: "your timeshare stinks and for a small fee (of thousands of $$$), we will be willing to take those annual fees off your hands."

it would be interesting if the DVC version were different...but not interesting enough that i would want to go and find out...

I get them all the time. I always tell them if they have any DVC points for sale to call me and that I want to buy more timeshares. That usually baffles them and they say - ok, bye.

Oh, yes-we've frequently gotten these calls. Once I pressured the lady who called about which specific resort she meant. Turns out she said "The one you own at Villas at Wilderness Lodge". Turns out we sold that particular contract 9 years ago! DH has a bit of a ruder response. He just says "Are you from Disney Vacation Club?" When they say no, he just says "Well then, why would I want to talk to you?"-click.

I have been getting those kinds of calls at least once every other month for a number of years. That you own a Disney timeshare is a matter of public record with Florida's deeds recorder and these organizations can easily get your name address and phone. When I receive such a call, I inform the caller that my phone number is on the national do-not-call registry, that they should immediately remove me from their lists and cease making further calls, and that if they call again, they should be prepared to send me the $500 due for each time they have called me in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

Yeah, they don't have our private number.
