DM.. petsmart is used by rescue groups only here and they're all full I try to place locally first.. right now I can't foster so I help people who are desperate online and through other groups....

I ramed an 8 year old feral once!!! So you have hope. If you can "get her out"... she sounds past the feral stage and just at the scared stage. Ferals I've had would tear your hand out if you tried to touch them. I'd put her in a room with noplace to hide but a crate.. so you can still see her and talk to her. THe longer they can hide unseen the longer it takes... they have to know you have access to them and still dont' hurt them.

Sounds like you know what you're doing but I've tamed my share of ferals so if you ever need advice.. or encouragement (which we all need time to time in rescue!) don't hesitate to contact me

We also were loaned a dog crate by the local shelter -- we kept the cat in a small room with very few hiding places (the bathroom) for about a week, and just went and sat on the floor in there a few times per day. We never, ever held her when she came out - just petted her on HER terms. Then after about a week or 2, we put her in the dog crate right in the middle of the living room. She couldn't hide anymore, and had to adjust to the sights and sounds of the household. Then after about a week or 2 of that, we let her out. She instantly hid -- for several more weeks came out only in the evenings and at night, and slinked and hid. But now, 2 yrs later almost, she is perfectly sociable. We still never, ever, ever put an arm around her or pick her up. (my kids were never allowed to pick up ANY cat...the mantra we taught them from toddlerhood was "Cats have brains to think where they want to go, and feet to take them there.")

The end result is a sweet, fluffy, sociable, affectionate cat who we can't take out of our house for ANY reason. I hope she doesn't get sick!
