Goofy's Great Birthday Bash NEW 6/2 page 34

They did end up winning that soccer game (and all but one other one that weekend) and came in second place in a tournament. It was a lot of fun to watch but also a LOT of time sitting on a folding chair. :rotfl: I have a love/hate relationship with soccer tournaments. :rotfl2:

I had that love/hate relationship with wrestling tournament. But now that it is over after 13 years of going to these wrestling tournaments, I miss it. :sad2:

OMGoodness...your nine year old is almost eye to eye with you? WOW, he msut be tall!! I love his answer...that cracks me up. :lmao: And sadly, it's true.

Well, I am somewhat "vertically-challenged"...:rotfl:

Cute pics!!
How do you like your Kindle? i got one for Christmas and love it!!!

:lmao: I am sure I will be the same way! ;) We have grown so close to the families on Aladdin's select team (those same boys have been together for about 4 years now) and I know I will miss spending so much time with them when all of this is over. All of that said, l really need a free day to put my piles of mulch into my flower beds. :rotfl:

How do you like your Kindle? i got one for Christmas and love it!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE L-O-V-E my Kindle. I have about 120 books loaded or in my account ready to zoom over in a few seconds for my reading pleasure. I cannot begin to explain just how much easier and much more pleasurable it has made travel time or all of the time spent waiting at the side of a soccer field or outside of whatever various lesson the boys are taking!!

It's also great for finding new authors that I enjoy, so many of them now give a book free at via the Kindle. I have found a few duds that way but even more often I have found a good book and a new author to put on my 'want to read' list. I also love being able to download a preview before having to buy a book.

Another great thing, I think, is all of the free classics available. I have read (or re-read in the majority of cases) almost 40 classics for FREE since I first bought my Kindle.

I would give the Kindle more than two thumbs up :thumbsup2:thumbsup2...instead I would give it both of my thumbs, all of my fingers and my ten little toes all up as well. So...my answer to your question is that I do so love my Kindle! :)

Day 5...In a Far Off Galaxy

As we people watched and explored our way through DHS, we stopped and enjoyed the Great Movie Ride. I love that ride/show/experience. It makes me chuckle and I journey back through some of my favorite movies (I am a Tarzan, Indiana Jones, Mary Poppins, Fantasia, Casablanca, Wizard of Oz fan).

After our ride through movie memory lane we strolled over toward Star Tours.

When we saw the posted wait time was five minutes we hurried over and ended up having no wait at all (other than the wait once we were lined up in front of the doors waiting for the riders in front of us to finish up there journey before ours could begin). We really had lucked out on low crowds that day!

As we walked out we were talking about riding again when I heard an announcement for the Jedi Training Academy that would be starting in fifteen minutes. To my great surprise, Goofy said he wanted to try to do that. I wasn't surprised because he doesn't like Star Wars but more because Goofy is my shy guy. He is not my volunteer to be in the show son. I was happy to see him stepping out of his comfort zone a little bit to even suggest trying to be picked. Goofy is a crack up with those he knows well, he almost never stops talking once he starts but he is the most reserved of my boys with those he doesn't know well.

As we walked over we found ourselves able to find a front spot smack dab in the center of the stage. As we waited, I cautioned him that they might be looking for younger kids to take part in the show...or at least younger looking kids. He might have been not quite ten years old but he looked as if the birthday he was there to celebrate was his 13th or 14th. He's just that stinkin' tall! I also warned him that he was going to have to volunteer to take part in the show (everything I had read about Jedi Training told me that they were looking for enthusiastic volunteers). Lastly, I reminded him that lots of kids wanted to train to be a Jedi and that not all of them could be picked. I just wanted him to understand that it wasn't just something you could opt into of your own accord. Despite those cautions, he was still interested in seeing the show even if he didn't end up in it. As we waited, we chatted with the photopass photographer who was there staging really neat pictures (you vs. Darth Vader once the Disney computers added him in). I love this picture, you can see just how much Goofy was enjoying our time WAITING! Yep, we were having a blast waiting. Go figure. ;) If you are a Star Wars (or even just a Star Tours) fan, don't miss out on this photo pass photo op.

As we continued to visit with the photographer she gave Goofy a few tips on getting picked to be in the show. Her tips were as follows:
1. Smile lots
2. Jump up and down
3. Wave your hands around
4. Yell out when they ask you if anyone wants to take part in Jedi training

Other than the first one (to smile), the rest were not what I would call Goofy moves. He's not the kind of kid that jumps around, waves his hands and hollers to draw attention to himself. That made it all the sweeter for me to watch when just a few minutes later he took that advice to heart. :yay:

Please prepare yourselves for photo overload. :lmao:

The Training Academy started off when a Jedi burst out on to stage.
wdw09441.jpg

The master Jedi put on a short display of his 'moves'.
wdw09443.jpg

And then he started to pick Padawan (is that how you spell it?) to train from the audience. As the photographer had clued us in, all of the children started to jump, smile, wave their arms and holler when he asked for volunteers. Goofy even joined in (in a much more subdued fashion than all of the kids near us). To his VERY GREAT delight, he was among those chosen to train. Each child that was picked was shown on to the stage and given a Jedi robe (???they had bigger and smaller robes but handed Goofy one of the smallest robes :rotfl:, it was a 'tad' small).

After preparing the future Jedi, the kids were each given a light saber to train with.
wdw09446.jpg

Then he began to instruct them on the finer points of using a light saber.
Image029.jpg

Image030.jpg

As the young Jedi-to-be were being trained, Darth Vader made his presence known.
wdw09448.jpg

He even brought two of his storm troopers with him.
wdw09450.jpg

Darth Vader offered the young Jedi-in-training a chance to join him. **I wonder what would have happened if one of those kids had said yes.:lmao: **
wdw09452.jpg

When none of them took him up on his offer, he warned them that they had better reconsider.
wdw09453.jpg

The Jedi master told Darth Vader that none of these hearts/minds would be drawn to the dark side.
wdw09455.jpg

Once Darth Vader was unable to convince the newest Jedi to join him, he was ready to do battle with them.
wdw09462.jpg

He issued a challenge and one by one, the young Jedi-to-be put there new training to the test.

Day 5...In a Far Off Galaxy PART 2

Goofy's turn to fight against the dark side.
Image031.jpg

Image032.jpg

Image033.jpg

Image034.jpg

Here's a video of his 'fight'.

Once all of the children had a chance to test out their light saber skills against Darth Vader, he disgustedly 'menaced' the group once more before deciding that they might have the advantage right now so he would leave now so he could return to fight again another day.
wdw09468.jpg

He left in a flurry of black cape snapping and smoke.
wdw09470.jpg

Once he left, his storm troopers seemed to lose all interest in picking a fight with so many 'well trained' Jedi around. They talked it over and then made a break for it themselves.
wdw09472.jpg

wdw09474.jpg

wdw09475.jpg

Once all threats had cleared out, the Jedi master told his new recruits just how proud he was of them and how the force would always defeat the dark side.
wdw09478.jpg

Then the newest Jedi took a bow.
Image036.jpg

Finally, the trainee's were given certificates to commemorate their experience.
Image037.jpg

By the end of his out of this world experience, my little Goof couldn't stop smiling. I am so happy he was one of the lucky ones and got to experience such a magical bit of fun for a little Star Wars fan. :cloud9:

How exciting that Goofy got picked for Jedi Training Academy! My boys are hoping that they get picked the next time we go. Both of my boys are Star Wars nuts.

BTW in one of your trip reports, I saw the cool Yoda backpack that Stitch got at DHS. I managed to find one for my youngest for his birthday. You should of seen his eyes light up when he opened it. Tell Stitch "Thanks!" for the great gift suggestion.

Awww wow I'm so pleased he plucked up the courage to volunteer and then to be chosen that's amazing. He looks as though he had a great time :goodvibes

FYI I've read that the selection process has changed and there is now a seperate line to join if you want to be a Jedi, this means you may have to wait several shows till your turn though. Of course this may have gone by the next time you go, you know WDW :rotfl:

Yay Goofy for getting picked to be in the show!! :yay: Good for him deciding to shine instead of holding back :goodvibes

I think it would be funny if one of the trainee's decided to go over to the 'dark side' - I bet it's happened before!

Another low crowd day? WOW! Sounds like a great one so far!

he looks so proud
Jason had to same trainer and he was fabulous, I would know since I sat through 4 of those shows waiting for my kids when they got a backstage tour of star tours and I got stuck waiting with a crabby overtired 2yr old :rolleyes1

Your little Goof certainly had a great time! Now what is Harry Potter doing on stage?!! Shouldn't he be at Hogwarts Castle? :rotfl2:

Alright! Goofy was a young padawan!! Good for him! :woohoo: It is so much fun to see someone who is a bit hestiant to come out of their comfort zone and do well... good job!

That looks like fun! Too bad they don't have an adult version :rotfl2: And I am not even a huge Star Wars fan. Looks like Goofy had a great time!

I bet you beamed with pride from behind that camera when he volunteered (even more so than when he got picked)!!

Lexi and I went to the Children's Museum in Boston last week. They had a Three Little Pigs play and asked for volunteers.. She was one of the first to stick her hand up...could have knocked me over with a feather, because she is normally a bit shy!

Yay for Jedi training!!!!!!:cool1: I'm sure he couln't wait to tell his brothers about training. SO NEAT!

Totally Off Topic...

But, I saw a DISer today! :) I saw a DISer today! :):) I saw a DISer today! :):):) How cool is that!

The boys were running in a 5K fun run today and as we were waiting for the results, a very nice volunteer approached us and asked me if I happened to like Disney. :thumbsup2 When I said yes, she told me that she had read my trip reports. :) I was so excited to meet her! She was busy passing out treats to the kids at the run so we didn't get to talk for long but she was very sweet. She said she had seen the boys during the run and wondered how she knew them as they looked familiar. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Stitch thought he was pretty cool since he was recognized. :rotfl2:

All in all, it was a really fun morning, I got to meet a DISer, we had fun as a family and the boys each did well running. :thumbsup2

Of course, I once again missed out on getting a DIS user name from a DISer, what is wrong with me? :rolleyes1 No answer needed, I know I am a hopeless scatterbrain. :upsidedow SO, if you are the sweet DISer who I spoke to today, please jump in and say hello. Way to go on your finish in the race! :flower3:

AND I wish you all a very BLESSED EASTER!

How cool for Goofy to be chosen at Jedi training!!! I've never seen it but it seems like fun for the kids!!!

Hope your Easter was wonderful!
