Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

Missed reporting in yesterday..drats!

W6D2 50 minutes with weights and lunge walking. Met a new machine to work ham strings!

Kim, one of the exercises to help with shin splints that was posted on the boards many years ago, was to write the alphabet with your toes while seated in a chair..like at a desk while you work. Helped me! :cutie:

Off to get my walking done!

Reporting in: W6D4 Goofy training.

45 min TM done 20 min ST - oops!

W6D5 Goofy training

50 min biking at the gym - done

Now I am heading out to the forest preserve for 9 miles. I'll check in later.

Hope you have a good walk, Pat.

I was supposed to do 4 miles walking yesterday but did 15 miles on the bike instead. I did 10 miles of walking this morning at a slow pace (with a friend). By the time we got to mile 7, the pace felt like a casual walk in the park but....I got my miles in. I guess that's what counts, huh? ;)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. High temps today around 80; tomorrow, 60. I love it!

9 miles done - but not exactly as planned. I got a later start because I had to search for my headband to keep my ears warm (cold and gloomy here in IL) and then I messed with my old mp3 player that acted up last Saturday during my walk. Finally I was almost to the forest preserve when I realized I didn't have my garmin. I never walk without my garmin. Darn!! Fortunately the loop at the forest preserve is 2 miles, and I used my cell phone to check my start time. I got in two loops (4 miles) when it started to sprinkle and the wind picked up. Since I was right near the car I decided to head home - good thing because I had only gone a couple of blocks when it started to pour. It didn't last long, but I would have been soaked if I had continued walking. I finished the last 5 miles on the TM.

I hope everyone is having a great day. Looks like Jim and I will be meeting one of my kids for supper and then doing some shopping.

I got my 12 miles in yesterday and feeling pretty good! Altho I will prob be sore later today.....

Week 4 done!

Way to go everyone with your training!! I cannot believe it is October already! Marathon weekend will be here before we know it!

Becky

Just waiting for Mike to get out of bed and we will be off for our 9 M for today. Weather is cold here so no concerns of getting out before the sun comes out...:)

Have a great day all.

Kim

well scaped the 9M it just never seem to stop raining. That might be a good thing however, I have decided to stop doing the back to back walks. I am dealing with some heal pain...maybe planters and I think the 2 long walks are just agrivating it. So I am going to follow the marathon plan only and just not do long walks Sat and Sunday.

I hope this doesn't hurt my ability to finish goofy but I figure I have a better chance going in a little under trained then injured.

What do you all think?

Kim, I agree with what you said. I think you will be fine. I am only planning a couple of back to backs (have yet to do one). My last 2 years I completed goofy and never did back to backs. Granted I wasn't very fast, but I finished. I hope your heals feel better soon.

You know my take on this one. Quality over quantity! Under trained and healthy is better than over trained and injured.

As mentioned before, I have NEVER done any back to backs for my previous 4 Goofys(including 2 Dopeys). If you body can handle it, do them. If not(like me), just get a good marathon training and you will be fine. It may be tougher for you, but doable. The hard part for us is being out there so long between the 2 days. Plan rest before 1/2 , do 1/2 slow, and rest after 1/2. This will help for the Full.

Take care!

I think most of my shorter "runs" for the b2bs are going to be done on the bike or elliptical. I'm hoping that will work.

Kim, sending you some :wizard: for your heel.

Take care, Kim......you'll do GREAT!

I finished a half this past Saturday.....whew....

Terri

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I am going to just do a few b2b but only on the pull back milage week and only if the heel is good.

I agree Robert that was kinda where my thought process was going.

I am hoping my marathon training will get me through. Feeling good however, Sunday was the only day I have missed and only cause I didn't want to get wet..:confused3

WTG Terri!!!!

Reporting in: W7D1 Goofy training.

60 min aqua-fit class - done!

Tonight - TM during Biggest Loser.

Thanks, Kim!

Did an easy 3.3 miles yesterday - and a LONG 30 minutes of stretching. I didn't really ever stretch much before, so it was time to learn!

So today I feel more beat up than yesterday.....just part of the process, right?

Robert what is the longest distance you walk for training for the Goofy if you don't mind me asking? Now that I am pregnant I will be 26 weeks at Goofy got the ok from the doctor. I am not doing back 2 back training this year. I will be walking this also if I can. I would love some advice from a vetran. I am new at this walking thing third Goofy though. Still contemplating that though.

Hi, Team!!

Good to see everyone getting their steps in!
KIm, do what you need to do to arrive healthy at the start. STRETCH lots!!
Terri1576, good for you in getting in stretching. It REALLY helps!! What half did you do? CONGRATULATIONS!!

I was able to get training done while on the road!! :woohoo: I really surprised myself, as I was very skeptical. I only missed Monday, but I'm right back on track today.

Keep it going, team!! :cheer2:
