Goodings...Rude re-awakening!

Pat - thanks, I had the feeling that I will get the direction from you.:p We will check it out in May.

We allways stop at Wal-Mart on RT 192 or by universal studios. We power shop and then i will go to publix if i need something quick.I found that most stores just outside the gates have double or triple prices. I refuse to be ripped off.

There are two grocery stores i use when I have a car. Both are on 192. One is at Splendid China...the other a bit further west.

Once you are in the car it is worth your while just to go where you can get a full complement of food.

The grocery store at Splendid China (if it's the same one I just shopped at) is also expensive. Some prices are better than goodings, but Goodiings has a better selection of produce & bread. I don't think that store has a high turnover. For small trips it was ok, but we spent $27 there on 3 tiny bags of stuff. And the don't have a deli counter, which was what we were really looking for (besides the ice cream :) ).

Wal-mart was the best deal. Everything was cheaper than home (NJ). $85 for a full cart, including diapers, milk, juice, deli stuff, 18 eggs, soda & wine. The Sams Choice water (12 pk for $2.50) is good. It was well worth the drive!

Sorry, but I REALLY miss having my groceries taken to my car when I'm in PA. I have never been to any of the chain stores in the Orlando area when there wasn't someone to take my stuff to the car. Have never tipped or felt the need to either. I like the idea of a shopping cart free parking lot.

Using the word super and walmart in the same sentence is a contradiction or terms. Pro and con are opposites so what's the opposite of Congress? There is nothing super about any walmart. They are taking over the country and destroying the USA. I wonder what they will charge for their Chinese trash when all the other stores are out of business....Dropping their prices? I wish the priceds would drop at least as far as the quality does!

The taking the groceries to the car is "a Southern thing". I'm pretty sure most stores have signs posted saying that tipping isn't expected but if you offer, they may accept. I don't think they do it anymore but the buffets in Florida also had someone to carry the lady's tray. ;)

There used to be a Gooding's out by Splendid China. Could that be the "other expensive store"?

I have started shopping on the way. There is a SuperTarget and a Albertson's just off the Greenbelt. They are easy to get to and the prices are good. (I like the Albertson's better. I now have thier card!)

I hope someone can help by posting the exit. I know it when I see it and it is a big one. There are also fast food and regular restuants there and a liqour store. It does cost an extra 50cents, but....

By the way, I just bought a 12 pack of diet cokes here at the Kroger in Nashville and payed over $4 so..... sometimes that is the going rate!

We went to Goodings once, and then found Publix and Winn Dixie, and have never returned to Goodings since.

Goodings has been renamed to Evilings :teeth:

I'm with Sap1227. Also a Publix Stockholder, DH has worked with the company 27 years.
I love Publix and will drive the extra length to shop there. The stores are clean, the prices are fair, and the employees are kind.
And if they aren't please ask for the manager and tell them. The only way to make it better is to know about the problem.
Just like with our rooms at DVC. We must speak up and complain if they are not clean. We have to ask for maintenance to fix the problem. If we don't they can't fix it..
Yipee :bounce: :bounce: I love it that most here want to shop Publix....:teeth:

:wave2: July

I'm one to always look for the best deal, but when I'm on vacation they value I place on my time is at a premium. If your at the resort, and the resort store sells what you're looking for, are you really saving money when you walk to your car, drive off property, shop in an unfamiliar store, wait thru checkout line and then return to the resort ? I figure I just wasted an hour of my vacation to save a couple bucks.

But if I do need to go to a Publix, an easy one to get to is the new one on I-Drive,just before you get to I-192. Just head out Oceola parkway, turn Right at the traffic lite at Gaylord Palms and Publix is just down a little on the left.

We would always stop on the way from the airport at Walmart to pick up soda and juice....we finally joined the vacation club last May and now stop at Publix for real food. Actually, last trip we were tired of eating out....so we went to Publix at 9:30 at night and bought the fried chicken, salads, fresh fruit and a couple of little other things...spent less than $20.00....and we had enough leftovers for the next night....If we would have gone to the food court or restaurant we would have dropped more than $20....it is great having the refrigerator and microwave....and we decided many years ago that Goodings was a rip-off....guess they have to pay Disney big money for rent so they make sure there prices are real high...

We always went to the Super Walmart - but the crowds and lines drove us crazy. I mean 11 pm, we would be in line for over 30 minutes - with only 3 people in front of us!!! LOL

We go to the new Publix. Have my receipt right in front of me from 10/16/03. LOL Now the important prices -

Publix Spring Water (2.5 Gallon) - 1.99
2 litre Sprite - .99
24 pack Miller Lite - 18.29 (I thought this was High LOL I can get a 30 pack back home for 18.99!!!)
Folgers Coffee - 2.45
Half & Half - 1.99
PopSecret Popcorn - 2.49

I don't even consider Goodings an option anymore, it's either Winn Dixe or the Publix over by the Premium Outlet Mall.

I posted this in another thread, but I really like the same Publix as NWVIKING.

FWIW, I like Goodings for certain things. They have good sushi and prepared salads and other "gourmet" type foods. I don't buy anything else there :).

Here's my other post:

Publix
Xentury City Center (Store #00570)
2925 International Dr
Kissimmee, FL 34746-4407

Xentury City Publix

It's at the intersection of International Drive South and HWY 192 and it only 6.5 miles from BWV.

I like this Publix. It's really close and you can sneak in and out of the grocery store the "back" way. It's about the same distance as the Publix on Vineland, but I think it's easier to get to because there are fewer stoplights. It also has a small touristy area where you can pick up towels, floaties, water bottles, t-shirts, etc.

Directions from Boardwalk Villas:

(1) Exit BWV and take a RIGHT toward the gas station.
(2) Turn RIGHT onto Lake Buena Vista Dr (at the gas station). You will be going WEST.
(3) Turn RIGHT onto World Drive toward HWY 192. The entrance is on the other side of World Drive and is a clover-leaf. You will be going SOUTH.
(4) Get off on the NEXT exit (Osceola Pky) toward 417. You will be going EAST.
(5) Go over I-4 and take a RIGHT onto International Dr South. The Gaylord Palms is at this intersection. You will be going SOUTH.
(6) Go under 417 and the back entrance to the Publix will be on your LEFT.

There is also a Walgreens at that intersection in case you need one. I always stop at the Walgreens for one reason or another .

Goodings is a ripoff, But, I love it!!! Last time we went to Winn Dixxie with a shoppers card. We got all our soda, waters, things like that. Snacks, chips, frozen foods.
Later we did go to Goodings and bought specialty stuff. We love the fruit salads and prepared regular salads. Also if you need a cake for a birthday or special occasions are beautiful! Its like shopping on Newbury St. You know that going in. I am drawing a blank, on the Newbury street store? Balduccis maybe?

Has anyone ever ordered their food in advance through DVC? If so how was it and was it overpriced compared to Goodings!!
